Chapter 367 - 367 362 Taking Over the Royal City
Chapter 367: Chapter 362: Taking Over the Royal City Chapter 367: Chapter 362: Taking Over the Royal City Upon the magic array, that lively and bustling city was thrown into immense panic and chaos as white-skinned giants, accompanied by griffins and fierce wolves, stepped out from eight massive, oval-shaped space gates located outside its city gates and made their way into the city.
The previously bustling hall fell into absolute silence within just a few breaths’ time. All the nobles were stunned by the scene playing out on the magical array.
“Is this Scarlett?” The noble lady Lydia questioned uncertainly, looking at the city that seemed about to be overrun by the white-skinned giants. She was not familiar with her nation’s capital but recognized a few landmark buildings.
“What is happening with these giants?” A less knowledgeable noble, feeling the tremors of the earth as their kingdom was on the verge of being overrun by giants, couldn’t suppress his anxious emotions and cried out in a low voice.
“Why isn’t the City Protection Array activated? Why aren’t the city guards resisting? Why are they allowing these giants to enter the city?”
“What an ignorant idiot, can’t even recognize a Cloud Giant!” Hearing the hall erupt into chaos, a Soul Intent nobleman who was also a marquis channeled his Fighting Qi to reprimand, instantly suppressing all unrest.
“Haven’t you all read any books? This basic knowledge even eludes you? Every Golden Dragon has Cloud Titan guards, there’s nothing strange about it. These Cloud Giants are likely brought by our soon-to-be inaugurated Golden Dragon Regent Duke, there’s no need to panic.”
“That may be so, but there do seem to be an unusually large number of Cloud Giants, there must be over a thousand of them, isn’t that highly irregular?” Staring at the Cloud Giants taking over the city defense and occupying every street in the magic array, an elegant nobleman expressed his disbelief.
“Hehe, indeed, the number does seem a bit high.” A noble, looking at the endless stream of Cloud Giants emerging from the eight space gates on the magic array, gave a dry laugh, scratching his nose. He had never seen so many Cloud Giants in his life.
“After all, it is the Golden Dragon who has been invited by his Majesty to govern our kingdom, it’s normal for there to be special cases.” Some noble found an excuse for the appearance of almost one and a half thousand Cloud Giants.
“Normal, my ass! This amount is way more than what a single Golden Dragon could possess.” A noble who had dealt with a Golden Dragon before grumbled softly. The Golden Dragon he had known possessed only a handful of Cloud Giants, paled in comparison to the hundreds of Cloud Giants on current display.
“This couldn’t be an illusion, could it! No, I must go and see for myself.” The enormous number of Cloud Giants led to suspicions from some of the more skeptical nobles. They left the hall and those – Golden Rank nobles – soared into mid-air for a better vantage point to observe the capital Scarlett.
Viewing from the magic array, some doubted the scene because mages were known for their astounding creativity which made the impossible possible, even fabrications weren’t out of the question.
However, when they personally saw one Cloud Giant after another, all burly and a towering twelve meters tall, patrolling the capital and taking over the city defense, they had no choice but to believe.
The nobles saw with their own eyes as one Cloud Giant after another entered the city, causing great terror. At the sight of the giants, ordinary residents instinctively began to flee, especially after seeing the fierce wolves under the giants’ feet.
Yet, Belradin had anticipated this. He had dispatched an army in advance to maintain order in the city, preventing the panic from spreading.
As the fleeing residents saw the soldiers maintaining order not confronting the giants, but instead, engaging in friendly chats, they gradually stopped panicking.
Anyone with half a brain could tell these giants bore no ill will towards humans, they were clearly allies. Besides, if one were to ignore their massive size, the Cloud Giants were actually quite attractive. As long as they didn’t cause a slaughter, they could easily win public favor.
The turmoil subsided quickly. The residents, no longer fearful and reassured they wouldn’t be harmed, began to gather around with their loved ones to observe these majestic Cloud Giants.
Although they could see various humanoid races in the capital on a regular basis, giants were rare, or rather, virtually non-existent.
Above the royal palace, the preemptively-arrived nobles slipped out of the hall and with their families in tow, took to the skies. After all, watching everything via the magic array felt somewhat surreal. Witnessing it with their own eyes, though they couldn’t see the entire scene, just felt different.
In this manner, the nobles of the Lockman Kingdom watched with their families, their expressions a mix of excitement, curiosity, and complexity as they watched the Cloud Giants take over the city.
Similarly, Count DeWitt’s family followed suit by taking to the skies to watch the spectacle, the count upheld his flightless children with his Golden Rank Fighting Qi.
“Father, the griffins accompanying those Cloud Giants are very large! They are twice the size of those griffins we breed at home. What’s the issue here?”
“Indeed, they’re noticeably larger than ours. What could be the reason? Could it be that they are of a different breed?”
“I’ve heard that powerful dragons can influence the creatures living around them. Over time, they can transform all creatures within a certain range into dragonkin.” Hearing the siblings’ question, a refined young noble chuckled and chimely replied in a soft voice.
“I reckon these griffins, barring any surprises, must have subjected to the influence of the appointed Golden Dragon Regent Duke, transformed into dragonkin creatures, hence their dissimilarity from ordinary griffins.”
“Your knowledge is truly vast.” Hearing the explanation by this young noble, the siblings experienced a moment of enlightenment. Lydia, a girl in her blossoming years, did not hesitate to voice her admiration.
“Wow!” Soon, the sharp-eyed girl noticed a young man also hanging in mid-air with no one else assisting him. This young man, who appeared not much older than them,, was able to maintain himself in mid-air with his own strength.
“You’ve already reached the Gold Rank. Anderson, look at yourself compared to him.” Lydia immediately used the young nobleman as the role model to rebuke her brother.
“Humph, so what if he’s Gold Rank? Once I reach his age, I can break through to Gold Rank too!” The proud young man retorted readily.
… Regardless of the views and thoughts held by the group of nobles who came to observe, they could do nothing but watch as two thousand Cloud Giants took control of their capital, replaced all the guards, and announced the commencement of the Golden Dragon rule.
“Is this still our human country’s capital or a giant’s capital?”
What frustrated some nobles was that after the Cloud Giants seized control of the entire city, three hundred of them, led by six exceptionally larger Cloud Giant leaders, even began taking over the defense of the royal palace.
