Chapter 186 - 186 181 Demon Hunter Knight

Chapter 186: Chapter 181: Demon Hunter Knight Chapter 186: Chapter 181: Demon Hunter Knight “He’s dead?” Muria was momentarily taken aback, then quickly swallowed the urge to burst out in vulgarity. He had traveled all the way from Red Leaf City to Valiant for the purpose of investigating the Marquis Mendoza, who was likely to have devolved into a devil. Just as he arrived, someone told him that Mendoza was already dead. What a turn of events.

“How did he die? When?” Muria asked curiously. “Did you guys do it?”

“Last night, Marquis Mendoza was slain in his own castle,” the High Priest said with a complex tone. “It was not us who did it but a passing demon hunting knight.”

“A demon hunter knight!” Surprise flashed across Muria’s face before it returned to calm. “So does that confirm without a doubt that Marquis Mendoza had become demon kin?”

“Exactly, last night, everyone in Valiant saw Marquis Mendoza transform into a giant beast and engage in battle with a knight. His fall into demonhood is now an established fact.”

“Well, I guess there’s no need for me anymore.” Muria sighed. Considering that the man had been cut down by a demon hunting knight and had already shown his true demonic form, the investigation into Marquis Mendoza’s corruption was moot.

“I apologize for having you make the trip for nothing.”

“No need to apologize!” Muria waved a hand dismissively. “Do you know where the demon-hunting knight who slayed Marquis Mendoza is? I would like to meet him.”

“After slaying Marquis Mendoza, the demon hunting knight vanished. We don’t know where he is,” the High Priest said with a hint of regret. “However, we are certain that the demon hunting knight is still in the city and has not left.”

“You don’t know his identity, huh. Seems like he has no interest in dealing with you,” Muria said humorously. “If I were him, I wouldn’t either. It’s too risky.”

“Oh, we mean no harm to the demon hunting knight.”

“Well, who knows?” Muria laughed. To the human race, a demon hunting knight was a great honor and also the greatest humiliation. “But how do you know that the demon hunting knight is still in the city and has not left?”

“Because of the presence of Marquis Mendoza, this city is filled with demons from Hell. Until these beasts are cleansed, the demon hunting knight would not leave.”

“If indeed that’s the case, the demon hunting knight must be still in the city as you say.”

“That is the situation, making your trip here in vain. Do you need me to teleport you back?”

“No thanks. Since I’m in Valiant, I might as well take a good look. Why rush back?” With that, Muria stepped off the teleportation array platform, saying, “I want to see where the demon hunting knight killed Marquis Mendoza and any remnants from their encounter.”

“It’s in the central area of Valiant, Marquis Mendoza’s castle. Of course, now it is just ruins, very conspicuous. You can see it once you leave the Temple.”

“Oh, I see.” Muria nodded, preparing to leave the Temple. “In that case, I’m going to go sightseeing in the city.”

“As you wish.” The High Priest who had welcomed Muria bowed slightly. “Do you require a guide?”

“No need.” Muria waved his hand, “I can manage on my own.”

It took Muria about ten minutes to walk through Dawn Temple in Valiant, a rather large complex. As he stepped out of the Temple into the morning sunlight, he saw a thick plume of gray-black smoke rising into the sky at the center of the famous trade city of Baiye Kingdom.

“Certainly conspicuous.” Muria looked up at the smoke that dyed half of the city’s sky gray. “Seems like there was quite a commotion last night between the demon hunter knight and the corrupt Marquis.”

Muria, cloaked in black, walked down the streets of Valiant, ignoring the curious looks from passers-by. He was heading toward where the smoke was rising.

He wasn’t riding any mount. He had left the giant wolf in Red Leaf City. Muria had told it to return to its wolf pack. He didn’t bother bringing it along because the wolf wasn’t of any help to him, except for attracting a bunch of attention.

But just as he was thinking this, a seemingly concerned voice came from behind him: “Young man, where are you heading?”

Muria turned around to see a middle-aged man with brown hair and a friendly smile looking at him.

“Are you…talking to me?” Muria looked at the friendly middle-aged man and smiled too.

“Yes.” The brown-haired middle-aged man seemed worried. “Young man,

did you lose your parents?”

Muria slightly narrowed his eyes, a sharp cold light flashing in them. Then he lifted his head showing an innocent smile, as well as a hint of fear towards strangers, as if a twelve-year-old boy gets flustered when talked to by a stranger.

“No, no, I just want to go there!” Muria pointed toward the rising column of smoke.

“To see Lord Marquis Mendoza… oh no, spits.” The middle-aged man spat out. “To see the remnants left by the demonic Mendoza after he was slain by the demon hunting knight?”

“That’s right!” Muria nodded, a thought surging within his heart. The Marquis who had become a demon beast, had his corpse truly not been collected after his death?

“Ha ha!” The middle-aged man retained his friendly smile. “Children are always filled with curiosity. Come, let your uncle take you there.”

With that, the middle-aged man tried to grab Muria’s hand. However, Muria showed a visible sign of discomfort, looked at the man’s hand with distaste, and took a step back.

“I can go by myself. You don’t need to take me.”

Hearing Muria’s words, the middle-aged man’s friendly smile faltered. His hand paused in mid-air and then retreated.

“Young man, you are from out of town, aren’t you? I have been a permanent resident in Valiant for over forty years and am familiar with every street here. The way you are heading will not lead you to Marquis’s Castle. If you want to take a look, let your uncle take you there. I know the fastest route.”

“Really?” Muria showed a bit of interest.

“Trust me, I’m not a bad guy. Seeing you wandering around on your own made me want to kindly offer help.”

“Well, you really are a good person then.” A radiant and delighted smile spread across Muria’s face. “Alright, lead the way. You go ahead, and I will follow.”

“Alright! Just make sure you keep up.” The middle-aged man walked ahead, warning over his shoulder as if worried that Muria would get lost.

“You can just lead the way without worry!” Muria cheerfully followed the middle-aged man, his steps light and leisurely as if he was in a joyous mood.
