Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!
Chapter 970: The Final Ultimatum

Chapter 970: Chapter 970: The Final Ultimatum

"We absolutely cannot yield, it was they who killed the Mayor! Are we not to avenge the Mayor, and instead yield to their demands?"

"What should we do then, just watch them destroy the Mayor’s body?"

"Do you think the Mayor would want us to give in to the people who turned Base City into this mess?"

"..."

The encirclement continued without delay due to the quarrel, with both parties at an impasse, but the final decision would rely on Gao Xiaoyan and the Lou Jia.

Gao Xiaoyan, one of the children adopted by Mayor Gao, was already designated as her successor three years ago. The Lou Jia, representing the pinnacle of Base City’s combat force, had a significant influence on the entire Law Enforcement Team system. Hence, these two were the ones to make the ultimate decision.

The Lou Jia did not seem opinionated, aligning his stance with Gao Xiaoyan’s as he did with Mayor Gao’s, "Miss Gao should decide. You’re the successor chosen by the Mayor, and I will support any decision you make unconditionally."

Of course, Gao Xiaoyan was unwilling to give up Gao Zhen’s body, and there was also an agreement yet to be reached with Xu Huo. Upon receiving the call, she repeated her earlier words, "Whatever your demands are, just state them!"

"A Rank A Prop in exchange for Mayor Gao Zhen’s body," Xu Huo stated bluntly: "We didn’t come all this way to W37 just for the excitement. My people are injured, and we’ve lost a number of Props. I won’t make any fuss about other issues, but at least a Rank A Prop is required to compensate for my losses."

"You’re dreaming!" Zhao Jie said through gritted teeth not far away. Although he wasn’t the one on the call, the Players with their keen senses could hear the conversation even from a slight distance.

"It seems your people don’t agree, so then..." Xu Huo laughed, about to declare the deal off, when Gao Xiaoyan interrupted, "There are only a few Rank A Props in the whole Base City, all strictly managed. Right now, the person in charge is at the training base, and even if we use a Prop, it will take at least an hour to get here. You must at least give us some time."

"That’s not a problem," Xu Huo said cheerfully, "I’ll give you half an hour. If it’s too late for the training base, consider letting the person beside you contribute one."

"Within this half-hour, your people can’t approach Bird Tower. If anyone dares venture close, I’ll take it as your side breaking the agreement unilaterally. Then, I’ll have no choice but to take Mayor Gao’s body with me. As the Mayor of Base W37 City, I’m sure many people would be interested."

Although she knew he had no such intention, Gao Xiaoyan couldn’t help but become enraged. While agreeing, she signaled the ponytailed man behind her to have some people approach Bird Tower surreptitiously—she couldn’t fully trust a stranger, especially with Luo Changren on their side. Under everyone’s watch, if the plan leaked, all previous sacrifices would be in vain!

The ponytailed man and a few others had already encountered Xu Huo’s group, so they were recognized faces and, like the Lou Jia, could not rashly leave. They had to secretly arrange for others to approach.

However, at that moment, an outer Spatial Barrier covered Bird Tower, causing two Players who were too close to collide with the barrier.

This Prop, from a female Player who had been involved in the W19 laboratory siege with Zhu Feiyun, was dual-function, providing both long-range sensing and defensive capabilities. Its true purpose wasn’t to block people or sense attackers, but rather to notify the Law Enforcement Team.

"My Prop covers a fifty-meter radius around Bird Tower, could your people step back a bit?" Xu Huo spoke to Gao Xiaoyan.

Gao Xiaoyan, standing at a distance, stared directly at the first floor of Bird Tower. Xu Huo showed his face, but from her perspective, she could also see Gao Zhen’s legs. Her expression chilled, "You can have the Prop you want, as long as you do not harm the Mayor any further."

Xu Huo gave a provocative smile, then, under everyone’s gaze, he raised the Communicator high and turned it off.

Gao Xiaoyan set the Communicator down heavily on the desk beside her, then asked the person behind her, "Is the Interference Device ready yet?"

"We need at least twenty more minutes," the ponytailed man paused before adding, "Xiao Yan, with the opponent’s Psychic Power levels so high, the Interference Device might not be very effective."

Never mind them; even some more advanced zones couldn’t do it, particularly against those with strong spiritual power Evolution. Ordinary devices most certainly could not cause targeted interference, and to affect their psychic state one would end up impacting everyone within the area.

"I know, let’s just try. Tell the other teams not to give up probing." Gao Xiaoyan took a deep look towards Bird Tower, "If conflict breaks out early, don’t worry about the Mayor or Bird Tower anymore. Just dispose of everyone inside without mercy!"

This decision met with the approval of the government officials and the Law Enforcement Team captains present. Compromising for Gao Zhen was their duty as comrades, subordinates, and friends, but not compromising also respected her lifelong commitment as comrades, subordinates, and friends. The dead have passed, but the living must go on!

Base W37 City seemed to be slowly getting a grip amidst chaos and disorder. However, after Kuang Wenjun relayed Gao Xiaoyan’s message, the mood among Shangguan Xi and his group took a turn for the worse.

"I was still hoping to divide up the Props, but I never expected the people of W37 to be so ruthless, insisting on pinning the old lady’s death on us," Shangguan Xi scratched his head. "Brother Xu, I’m afraid it won’t be long before some belligerent Players start trouble on their own."

"What do we do now?" Zhu Feiyun hovered in the air, still in his clown makeup, "Aren’t we trying to clear the level?"

"It’s not time yet." Xu Huo walked to the center of the first floor, glanced at the ground, and turned back to ask Luo Changren, "Is it here?"

Luo Changren, barely managing to stand, gestured to break up the floor tile before sitting down and digging through the dirt beneath with his hands.

Xu Huo looked at Shangguan Xi, who then stepped forward to assist.

Luo Changren didn’t refuse; after all, hands were no match for a Prop. Quickly clearing away the dirt, Shangguan Xi retrieved a metal block from two meters below and placed it on the ground.

"What’s the use of this thing?" Shangguan Xi flipped it over.

With trembling hands, Luo Changren took it, pressed his thumb into one corner to draw blood, which flowed and seeped along almost invisible fine grooves on the metal surface. A second later, two small squares emerged and split to either side on the face of the metal block, revealing a tiny screen only as large as a spectacle lens. He traced a fingerprint pattern in a specific sequence with his fingertip to unlock it. Upon successful unlocking, the tiny screen retracted to the side...

"Why is it empty!" Luo Changren, who was initially agitated, turned white and broke into a sweat upon seeing the empty case behind the screen. He frantically reached inside, repeatedly muttering "impossible," his reaction far more intense than when he learned of Gao Zhen’s broken agreement and Dr. Zhang’s deception at the government hall.
