Chapter 961 Bird Tower and the Agreement

Chapter 961: Chapter 961 Bird Tower and the Agreement

Even in the midst of the fight, Xu Huo’s Spiritual World had quietly enveloped Bird Tower. Vertical Pupil descended from the top floor—on the sixth floor there were two people. Though they had not come up, they were likely preparing to receive the woman. In the third floor below, there were four people, including Xiong Qing and Teacher Ai.

Both had clearly been severely beaten. Xiong Qing lay injured on the ground, while Teacher Ai, less severely wounded, was pressed down on his knees by a player in red clothing, who stabbed a long, thin Cowhair Needle into the back of his head. With the advancement of the needle, Teacher Ai’s expression visibly shifted from resistance and pain to numbness. Within a few seconds, he obediently knelt on the ground.

"These two cripples are quite the handful," the player in red remarked, slapping Teacher Ai across the face before stepping back.

His companion, a gloomy-looking man, frowned impatiently, "Let’s get on with the important tasks, stop wasting time."

"Base W37 is about to get chaotic; we have plenty of time," the player in red chuckled. "I didn’t expect to come here and witness this scene; it saved us the effort of getting involved."

The gloomy man appeared very impatient with these distractions. Pointing his chin toward Teacher Ai, he said, "This guy probably knows the use of Bird Tower and could be from Base City. Check his background; he might just be one of them."

The player in red took out a handheld device, carelessly jabbing the needle into Teacher Ai, and the screen immediately displayed genetic analysis data. After thirty seconds, the interface showed Teacher Ai’s genetic data existed in the records, and an ID card popped up on the side of the screen.

"Damn, he’s a big fish—this guy is Luo Changren!"

The gloomy man slightly straightened up, walked over to verify the information, then rubbed Luo Changren’s face, "I thought he was already dead. Turns out he changed his appearance and fled to Base W37 City."

"It’s that old fuzzball who brought back the SE virus," the player in red muttered doubtfully. "Bird Tower was originally built to launch a vaccine against the poison, so what’s he doing here? Could he still have the SE virus samples? Weren’t all the samples destroyed initially?"

The gloomy man gave him an exasperated look, "If they were all destroyed, where does your original sample come from? When Base City 01 was under siege, the original samples must have scattered to various Base Cities. The current chaos in W37 is proof."

The player in red stroked his chin, "That makes sense. If Luo Changren could escape with an original sample of the SE virus, it’s believable. Since he’s completed our task for us, let’s just kill him and report back. I’ve been frustrated these past few days in W37, listening to that old woman swearing by time every day, nauseated at seeing a bunch of players buzzing around her like Worker Bees. The base government and Law Enforcement Team are all stern on the surface, seems like these guys love to crawl under the old woman’s skirts!"

The gloomy man seemed accustomed to his companion’s "simple mind," automatically ignoring the latter half of his speech, "The SE virus doesn’t need Bird Tower for spreading. Its use is to ensure the antidote vaccine covers at least one Base City. Now that other Base Cities have basically dismantled their Bird Towers, Luo Changren being here implies he possesses the antidote vaccine for SE."

"Wake him up and find out where the antidote vaccine is."

He stepped back, and the player in red pinched his fingers and walked over to Luo Changren, gently flicking the steel needle on the back of his head. Luo Changren’s eyes briefly cleared but were still drowsy, like someone just awakening.

The player in red did not directly ask him about the antidote vaccine but first inquired several times about his identity.

For the first three times, Luo Changren insisted that his surname was Ai, that he had come from Base W19, and that his former occupation was an engineer. By the fifth time, he painfully admitted his real name was Luo Changren.

The player in red was quite pleased with his methods, and he continued smugly, "How did you escape from Base City 01 initially?"

"Gao Zhen... let me go..."

"Gao Zhen?" The player in red did not recall this name and pressed further, "Who is Gao Zhen?"

"Mayor of W37 Base City."

The player in red scoffed disdainfully, "What’s your relationship with her?"

"No relationship..." Luo Changren spoke intermittently, "I promised her... to bring back the SE gene virus vaccine to W37..."

"So, you’re saying you have the antidote vaccine for the SE virus?"

This time Luo Changren did not respond. After waiting two seconds, the player in red asked again, "Have you slept with that old woman... Gao Zhen?"

The gloomy man frowned, but the player in red gave him a playful laugh, then turned to look at Luo Changren again, "Is Gao Zhen’s technique good?"

Luo Changren’s expression twisted briefly, "I don’t know..."

"Figures; after all, Gao Zhen is a mayor of a Base City, can’t just pull every man into bed," the player in red joked shamelessly about the female mayor, "If she were twenty years younger, I’d definitely go knock on her door for a lesson!"

He laughed to himself for a while before noticing the gloomy man staring at him expressionlessly, causing him to suppress his amusement, "Working with you is no fun."

"Stop asking nonsense," the gloomy man said. "Neither of them went to the female mayor, nor do they carry the vaccine with them. It’s likely they have other accomplices. Find out who and when they are meeting."

The player in red nodded, asking as instructed. But whenever the topic of the vaccine was mentioned, Luo Changren would shut his mouth tight, his resistance growing fierce, and after being questioned a few more times, he began to sweat profusely and convulse.

The player in red reluctantly pulled the needle out a bit, "His mental defenses are pretty tight; I doubt we’ll get anything out of him."

The gloomy man nodded, "Then ask him directly for the sake of his comrades’ lives—it’ll get him to talk."

"Good idea." The player in red grinned, pulled out the needle entirely, and slapped Luo Changren heavily twice, waking him up with a spit, "You still have the face to live? I’ve never seen someone who has killed as many as you have in my whole life!"

Luo Changren’s eyes slightly widened, then quickly calmed down, "Go ahead."

"You think dying is that easy?" The player in red grabbed his collar, "I wonder, since Gao Zhen let you go because of the vaccine, why didn’t you go to her but instead came sneaking to Bird Tower?"

Luo Changren’s emotions gave nothing away, "I won’t say anything, just kill me. I’ve killed so many people; I should have died as atonement long ago."

"Death won’t come so easily!" The player in red threw him back on the ground, then turned to the gloomy man, "You try asking."

The gloomy man paced to Luo Changren, crouched down before him, "You have the vaccine, don’t you? If you think your life doesn’t matter, consider your comrades’."

"Give up the vaccine, and I might let him go."
