Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!
Chapter 958: The Scapegoat Arrives

Chapter 958: Chapter 958: The Scapegoat Arrives

"What the hell happened, where are they?" the man with glasses asked Xiao Meng beside him.

Xiao Meng was also shocked, "I clearly heard their footsteps!"

The two exchanged a glance and simultaneously turned around and ran back to search for their companions, but as they retraced their steps through the area they had just covered, they saw no trace of their remaining teammates. There were no signs of a struggle, the doors that had been open and the objects that had been arranged were all in their original state, unchanged. It was as if those eight people had vanished into thin air!

Inside the laboratory, the lights were bright, but the man with glasses now felt an unusual chill. He gritted his teeth and said, "Search!"

While the man with glasses was searching for his comrades, the eight missing players were also anxiously looking for their team leader. However, they were no longer on the same floor. Despite going up and down the stairs a couple of times, they had never actually left the fifth floor where Xu Huo had brought them.

The range of control in the Spiritual World had expanded upwards and downwards, which was a benefit of the further evolution of the psyche. Of course, Xu Huo did not use his library, as the R1 Laboratory itself was an excellent venue for his purposes.

The venue was complex, with numerous rooms, many of which stored bacteria or toxins. Even if they knew the layout of the laboratory, the Law Enforcement Team could not afford to walk around without concern. Instead, they would consciously avoid those high-risk areas to prevent more severe consequences.

The fear of viruses made them more restrained.

Killing them might not have been easy, but locking them up in the laboratory was not difficult.

Of course, some players were harder to interfere with, but Xu Huo generally tried only once before skipping them.

As the number of people active in the R1 Building dwindled, Duck Tongue Cap, after several failed attempts to contact his teammates, took out a prop that released fluorescent light and held it in his hand.

Under the fluorescent light, the overall appearance of the laboratory had not changed much, but some traces that shouldn’t exist seemed to have appeared in the corridor.

One of his teammates stepped forward to identify, "This is Big Liu’s prop."

They followed the traces of the prop to a culture room, opened the door, and saw a man standing with his back to them.

"Big Liu?" a teammate called out, but the man did not turn around.

Duck Tongue Cap and his teammates did not approach but used a turning prop. Big Liu turned around; he was neither dead nor hurt but had fallen into a self-induced illusion, his face bearing a stupid smile while his right hand fumbled aimlessly at the front of his trousers.

Duck Tongue Cap’s face turned ugly. He instructed his teammate to wake the man up, then turned and called out into the hallway, "Whoever has the audacity to humiliate the Law Enforcement Team like this, you will pay the price!"

Almost as soon as his words ended, a white spiral staircase appeared before him. Duck Tongue Cap did not hesitate to leap onto the stairs.

He did not need to walk by himself; the rotating staircase automatically carried him upward, the scenery around him continuously changing, and he was no longer in the Experimental Building. However, Duck Tongue Cap remained calm and composed. When the stairs rotated to a certain height, he suddenly jumped into the darkness with force from both legs.

Passing through the dark, he landed on solid ground and looked up to see a person dressed as a clown standing in front of him. Their eyes met; one turned to run, the other lifted his foot to chase.

"Hehe!" A strange laugh echoed in the space, and Duck Tongue Cap followed the sound only to be met with darkness.

He was not sure if there was someone in the dark, but in this space, only the path between him and the clown man was illuminated. Beyond a meter away, everything was shrouded in darkness.

"Hehe!" The sound came again from the front. Duck Tongue Cap fixed his gaze and saw the clown man standing before a door, smiling at him as if waiting.

With a slash, Duck Tongue Cap cut down the "clown man" and watched his figure disappear behind the door then stepped forward to pursue.

After the two traveled through six doors, they came to a doorless white space. The clown man stopped and faced Duck Tongue Cap, maintaining a smile on his face without moving his lips and yet making a sound:

"Do you know about the SE virus?"

Duck Tongue Cap paused slightly and was about to speak when the clown man continued, "Someone has transported the original sample into W37; the virus is now spreading within the city."

"Isn’t it you, the foreign players who brought in the virus samples?" Duck Tongue Cap gritted his teeth, "To kill so many people just for the sake of passing the level, allowing you to live is a waste of food!"

The clown man dodged his attack, hopping and jumping through the space, repeatedly provoking Duck Tongue Cap from behind.

Duck Tongue Cap quickly realized that he had fallen into the opponent’s trap. After another failed attack, he turned and threw out a crescent-shaped prop.

A crescent door appeared in front, and he jumped through it without hesitation. However, the clown man also followed him in, his hands clasped behind his head, floating elegantly beside him in a drifting posture, impervious to Duck Tongue Cap’s attempts to shake him off!

Duck Tongue Cap was furious. He grabbed a mini bomb to throw it, but at that moment, the ever-elusive clown man suddenly reached out and grabbed his arm, asking in a deep voice, "Do you know who planted the original sample in W37?"

Duck Tongue Cap swung a punch that predictably passed through the clown man’s illusion. However, when the figure before him dissipated, he found himself back in the laboratory, having stood in place the entire time!

Before he could get over the shock and fear, a voice drifted into his ear, "W37."

Duck Tongue Cap’s pupils trembled, and he whirled around. He saw several members of the Law Enforcement Team emerge from different places, all wearing the same bewildered expression, "What just happened?"

Before they could fully awaken, the phone rang from the temporary command center, informing them that someone had just forcibly breached the blockade!

"Chase!" Duck Tongue Cap led his men out in haste, meeting the colleagues who were securing the laboratory and inquiring which direction the clown man had fled.

The colleague on the other end was puzzled by his question, "What clown man? No one came out of the laboratory at all!"

Duck Tongue Cap immediately realized the truth, taking a sweeping glance: The teammates who had participated in the assault on the laboratory were now mingling with the other players of the Law Enforcement Team. Each face seemed familiar, and it was impossible to discern the real from the fake right now!

The successful breakthrough from the Illusion Realm was fake; the call from the command center was fake; the clown man had plenty of opportunities to kill but chose not to. He did it to infiltrate the Law Enforcement Team and escape the laboratory!

Unwilling to let Xu Huo get away just like that, Duck Tongue Cap quickly contacted the command center to control all the players present.

Although they were quick to respond, the number of Law Enforcement Team members was too vast, and the brief chaos before regrouping and screening was enough time for him to have made several rounds.

"Clown man... clown man!" Duck Tongue Cap, through gritted teeth, was about to propose a citywide manhunt when a Law Enforcement Team player approached to report, "Squad 13 has found a player wearing a clown suit near Pillar No. 06!"
