Chapter 95: The Misremembered Puzzle
Chapter 95: Chapter 95: The Misremembered Puzzle
Gu Yu waited on the side, her face showing shock. She had secretly tried before, and a common prop knife couldn’t cut it at all!
"Your Sword is even more powerful than my Level D Rainbow Gun!"
Gu Yu had never planned on succeeding on her first attempt, after all, players with a low evolution rate like Xu Huo couldn’t even get their hands on a potion, let alone a powerful item.
She pinned her hopes on Lin Pei and the others, who were definitely hiding something, but there was no rush. Since everyone wanted to get out, if their items didn’t work, they would have to force Lin Pei and the others to reveal their trump cards.
She didn’t expect the surprise to come so suddenly!
Looking at the man who was not frivolous under the red light, she suddenly found his previously stern and unapproachable demeanor to have a hint of inscrutability.
"No wonder you wanted me to come with you, you’re also afraid that Lin Pei and the others will see you have such a powerful item."
While dismantling the black metal, Xu Huo suddenly heard Gu Yu say, "You are guarding against them, you don’t trust them either, do you?"
Her eyes brightened, "Don’t worry, I definitely won’t let your item slip, from now on, we are allies!"
The reluctantly allied Xu Huo raised a piece of black metal for her, "It’s a bit heavy, hold it tight."
The two brought out a piece of black metal each. One of them was handed to Shen Xin, and then they passed through the streets toward the nearest cage trap.
"No wonder he doesn’t care about the door switch at all..." Lin Pei muttered to himself, looking at the metal block that was three inches thick but cleanly cut.
As long as they could lure the Alien away, maybe they didn’t have to bother finding some control switch; they could just use their items to get out!
Wu Qiuyi saw the signal sent back by Shen Xin, crossed him, and walked out of the toy store, "Let’s go find the next puzzle."
They had to wait another two hours for the next opportunity.
As Wu Qiuyi started answering questions, a series of grilles popped out in the cellar passage Xu Huo and Gu Yu were guarding, crosswise forming several layers of barriers.
Without needing a signal, Xu Huo and Gu Yu immediately placed the black metal blocks at the entrance. The metal blocks, slightly larger than the gap, fit perfectly to seal the edges of the entrance. Gu Yu hesitated whether to fire a few more shots to make the seal tighter as she watched the metal partially fuse with the edge of the entrance, but Xu Huo stopped her.
"Don’t waste bullets."
Gu Yu nodded and went outside with him to find some blankets to cover the metal blocks, hoping they would provide some sound insulation.
Then, Xu Huo used what was available to create several simple traps. If the Alien came out, the moment it pushed aside the metal blocks, the ropes tied to the corners of the blankets would trigger the surrounding sharp knives and the heavy objects hanging above.
"Will these work?" Gu Yu asked, puzzled, "Even if all these knives stabbed the Alien, it wouldn’t be fatal, right?"
Xu Huo continued to check the traps while responding, "If it gets injured, that’s useful. When it comes to a fight for survival, even the slightest advantage can be an opportunity."
Gu Yu immediately became serious. She wanted to help, but she had no experience with traps and mechanisms. Her only impression of them came from movies and TV shows, which looked great but were almost impractical because some of the impressive looking traps simply couldn’t be done in reality.
However, the small traps made by Xu Huo were very meticulous. He pulled one of the ropes, and a kitchen knife, driven by a spring, shot out. The spring had been dismantled from a couch.
Catching the knife mid-air, Xu Huo then put it back in its original place.
"You even understand this?" Gu Yu looked at him in surprise.
Xu Huo, without even lifting his head, said, "Extras, need to know a little bit of everything."
Gu Yu was momentarily choked up and muttered, "Even a prop master isn’t as capable as you," before falling silent.
After they had arranged everything, they slowly exited the house.
On the other side, Shen Yi, who had already received the signal, had taken another piece of metal to the next cage location. Lin Pei and Wu Qiuyi were the lookouts, while Xu Huo and Shen Xin solved the puzzle.
The next destination was a household store. Shen Xin followed the notes to find the clock with the blue flower wreath placed on it and walked in.
"It’s nine o’clock, nine o’clock, time for a sweet slumber. Cute little ones should be lying in bed by now, but the naughty ones are still secretly answering riddles," the clock chimed.
"However, Master Niese, who adores puzzle games, is exceptionally tolerant of fellow enthusiasts."
"Today’s question is, what is Master Niese’s favorite game?"
Xu Huo’s expression changed upon hearing the first sentence. The puzzle at this location was not within the range of his prior knowledge, but rather something Wu Qiuyi had told them, having heard the clock keep time before. The original question was supposed to be about Master Niese’s favorite shoes, but they were thrown a curveball right from the start.
He had answered that question incorrectly at the mayor’s office.
Signaling Shen Xin to keep quiet, Xu Huo prepared to quietly exit the household store, but unexpectedly, a wooden plank slipped and fell to the floor with a loud noise in the corner.
"Today’s question is, what is Master Niese’s favorite game?" the clock repeated.
Shen Xin looked at him in panic. Xu Huo raised his hand to calm her and then spoke, "Will there be a punishment for a wrong answer?"
However, the clock didn’t respond with the usual "Enjoy your puzzle-solving time" but repeated directly, "Today’s question is, what is Master Niese’s favorite game?"
"The puzzle solver has only five seconds left."
The second hand on the clock face ticked away, barely giving them five seconds—insufficient time to run out and signal for help.
Shen Xin dared not speak. She knew that a wrong answer would attract the Aliens. She gripped the baseball bat tightly and stared intently at Xu Huo.
With only five seconds, they had to provide an answer, right or wrong. If they were lucky, there would be a brief reaction time before the Alien reached them. If Shen Yi and Gu Yu alerted the Alien, they were practically delivery right to the Alien’s doorstep!
Save my brother!
She mouthed a plea for help.
But at that moment, Xu Huo wasn’t looking at her. Only after gripping both the sword and the shield did he finally answer, "Making clocks."
"Beep Beep! Correct answer!"
Both people in the room breathed a sigh of relief. Xu Huo nodded to Shen Xin, who immediately went to the window and signaled Wu Qiuyi, urging her to tell Shen Yi and Gu Yu to speed up.
"The puzzle solver has given the correct answer. Master Niese has decided to reward you with a gemstone-studded watch that has a unique way of keeping time."
A small drawer slowly popped out from under the clock, containing a watch made from a single square black gemstone. The watch face was semi-transparent, revealing the inner workings, and the likewise black hands moved silently, approximately ten seconds slower than the time shown on the wall clock.
The clock spoke up again, "Wise puzzle solver, the second question is, who is the person Master Niese detested most in his life?"
