Chapter 94: Chapter 94 If You Can Do It, Then Go Ahead
Xu Huo and Gu Yu also discussed the matter of the blueprints, and Wu Qiuyi immediately asked, "Is there a switch for the gate on there?"
"Haven’t found one yet," Xu Huo replied as he unfolded the blueprints he had brought out. "I have checked the places where the Aliens hide before, and didn’t find anything like an electrical breaker nearby."
"The Aliens’ dungeon is automatic; the breaker might be underground, but the east and west gates are essential for daily access to and from the town. The gate’s controls should be somewhere within the town."
"Could they also be underground?" Shen Xin asked hesitantly. "Should we go underground to look for it?"
"There are definitely passages underground that allow the Aliens to pass through, but once we go down there, we’ll have to face more than just a single Alien," Lin Pei was the first to object. "And even though we’ve found three Aliens so far, they don’t feel like the one at the east gate."
"After we trap these three Aliens, we still have to try to draw it out so we can go look around the gate."
They had been searching for the gate’s switch all along, not just them, but also the players who had died before them.
Having not found it for so long, they gradually began to suspect that the switch differed from what they knew from common sense. But now, there was another possibility: the switch might be underground.
If it really were underground, that would be completely contrary to their preconceived methods. Blocking the Aliens underground meant also blocking their own way out.
"I don’t think the switch is underground," Gu Yu said. "I agree with Xu Huo, that would not be convenient for entering and leaving the town at all. Even if we came here to be imprisoned, there would still need to be food and clothing, and there are so many shops here."
"There is another clumsy method," Ke Liang spoke up. "We can flip each Alien out and kill them, then go down through the floor traps."
"If we can’t find the switch in the town in the end, we can only go underground," Lin Pei sighed.
"Let’s study the blueprints again."
The group gathered around the blueprints, looking for circuits that might be connected to the gate, but finding the corresponding line among the thousands was as difficult as reaching the heavens, especially since there were no clear markings on them.
"No way, my eyes are going blind," Gu Yu backed off after searching for a while. "What kind of crappy blueprint is this? Does the person who drew this have a problem with his brain? How can you tell them apart?"
Seeing Wang Chaoqing poking his head around, Xu Huo asked, "Did you see something?"
Wang Chaoqing couldn’t hide the excitement and smugness on his face. He cleared his throat and said, "Actually, these lines are different."
"What’s the difference?" Gu Yu glanced at him. "You better not waste everyone’s time."
Wang Chaoqing shrank his neck and hurriedly said, "Different pencils were used. At first glance, they all look like pencil lines, but the shade and hardness vary, like 2B pencils and HB pencils. But there are several different types within this blueprint, not the ones we commonly use."
"How did you notice that?" Wu Qiuyi looked at him skeptically; at least to her, there was no discernible difference in the lines on the blueprint, not even in thickness.
"My evolution took a bit of a special direction," Wang Chaoqing scratched his head. "If you don’t believe me, forget it."
"We believe!" Lin Pei and Shen Yi each grabbed one of his shoulders and pushed him toward the blueprint. The latter said, "Quickly look, where is the main switch?"
"I don’t know," Wang Chaoqing said bluntly. "I can only recognize the pencils, I don’t understand electrical diagrams."
"Useless," Gu Yu looked at him as if he were trash, obviously still angry.
Wang Chaoqing had repeatedly harassed Gu Yu and was harboring some unspeakable thoughts; afraid of being beaten, he could only keep apologizing.
"Then you look at which different pen lines there are, and point out which are the most and the fewest," Xu Huo said.
Wang Chaoqing examined carefully for a while, then hesitantly said, "There’s nothing particularly numerous or scarce, except that the perimeter wall used a separate kind of pen, inside which are roughly circular sectors."
Xu Huo, equipped with the "Insider’s Perspective" ability, meticulously examined the circuit diagram based on the approximate location mentioned, his eyes keen to spot the slightest differences. As Wang Chaoqing mentioned it, he too slowly began to notice the discrepancies.
"It seems the fence’s wiring is separate," Lin Pei pondered. "We still need to check near the fence."
At that moment, Gu Yu took out the notes she had made. "Let’s do it one by one, starting with the trap."
"But what gadget should we use?" Lin Pei asked.
Shen Yi produced an ancient bronze Short Sword, "This Sword is quite blunt; it can’t even cut through a chunk of iron."
"I don’t have any sword-like gadgets," Gu Yu motioned towards Wu Qiuyi and the others with her chin. "How about you?"
"I don’t have one either," Wu Qiuyi said.
Lin Pei and Ke Liang also shook their heads, with the latter saying, "I’ve got a few gadgets, but none that would be of any use here."
He went ahead and displayed his own gadgets: an open mini parachute, a pair of nunchucks, and a foldable fruit knife.
"We really don’t have one," Wang Chaoqing said, as the others looked towards him and Nian Hong’an. "The only Seven-Colored Gloves we had were given to Brother Xu."
The group then turned their attention back to Xu Huo.
"I can give it a try," Xu Huo said.
"Do you have a suitable gadget? What is it?" Lin Pei asked.
Xu Huo looked at him without speaking, and after two seconds, Lin Pei said with a smile, "I’m just a bit curious, and I’m also afraid of wasting a puzzle-solving opportunity."
"Then how about you go instead?" Gu Yu retorted sharply.
The atmosphere grew somewhat awkward, and Ke Liang stepped in to mediate, "We all want to leave this town; let’s not quibble over such details now."
"Anyway, we should try one by one. If Xu Huo’s gadget doesn’t work, we’ll think of something else."
Lin Pei tactfully changed the subject, and the group huddled together to discuss the most likely places to be safe puzzles, and then they got off the car in groups and returned to Master Niese’s residence.
Xu Huo and Gu Yu were in charge of cutting the black metal, Lin Pei and Wu Qiuyi were buying time, and the Shen siblings, Shen Yi and Shen Xin, were on the lookout and in charge of communications.
Once the six of them were in position, a toy store clock nearby began to chime, and the doll holding the clock opened and shut its mouth, "Six o’clock, six o’clock, time for a delightful dinner to commence, let’s solve the puzzle while we enjoy our meal."
"Today’s question is, what is Master Niese’s favorite food?"
Taking a deep breath, Wu Qiuyi walked over and focused on the decibel meter beside her as she spoke, "I want to answer the puzzle, but I have a question."
"If I answer incorrectly, will there be a punishment?"
"The delightful puzzle-solving time, the game rules set by the Clock Master Niese, absolutely do not allow any puzzle enthusiast to be harmed."
Wu Qiuyi nodded to Lin Pei, who then signalled to Shen Xin in the opposite shop. Shen Xin gave an "ok" gesture to Shen Yi, who was standing on an adjacent rooftop. Shen Yi then turned and waved his arms towards Master Niese’s residence.
"It’s done," Gu Yu entered the room from the window.
Xu Huo held the Crimson Sword, the Ruby on the hilt releasing a light that illuminated the entire room. With several delicate clinking sounds, two vertical and four horizontal flashes of the Sword quickly swept by, evenly cutting out three square pieces from the inner wall of the house.
