Chapter 93: Chapter 93 The Blueprint behind the Wallpaper

Gu Yu’s face was marked with intense self-confidence as she believed that no player would refuse such a good deal.

That’s because, apart from helping each other find ticket props inside the alliance or teaming up for sub-quests, members basically didn’t have to assume any responsibilities, not like the official players who had to carry out government orders, even if the sub-quests were extremely dangerous and they had to go.

How could anyone not want an opportunity that demanded no significant sacrifice yet allowed them to survive?

"If you’re talking about a bunch of newbies huddling together for warmth, then forget it," Xu Huo turned and headed upstairs.

Gu Yu was stunned for a moment and quickly followed him, "Why? Your evolution rate is only at 10%, most members of the alliance exceed that number, they are all stronger than you. At least when you need help, there will be someone to stand up for you, right?"

But Xu Huo just smiled, "You only have one life, but the sub-quests are fraught with danger. How many times do you think your alliance members can really come to the rescue?"

"If every new member needs the old ones to help them out, your so-called core members aren’t enough to throw their lives away in the sub-quests."

"Of course, it’s not possible to rely on someone’s help every time you enter a sub-quest, but the alliance can still provide access to ticket props and the like. Even if it’s just about providing a trading platform, that’s still a convenience," Gu Yu retorted.

"Who else is leading this alliance besides you?" inquired Xu Huo.

Gu Yu gritted her teeth, "There’s another Level D Player, also a good friend of mine."

"So you’re saying, between the two of you, one provides the capital, and the other the effort. You want to use the slogans of mutual aid to draw in a large number of players and control resources, right?" Xu Huo spelled out her intentions bluntly.

"Don’t put it so crudely," Gu Yu said, face grim, "Shouldn’t players unite together?"

"Dimensional Rift has become a catastrophe for all humankind. Cannibal Players and Cannibal Evolvers continue to emerge incessantly. If we don’t band together early on, it will only become tougher later."

"You’re right and wrong," Xu Huo halted on the stairs, up two steps, he turned back to look at her, "It’s true that players will face harder times in the future, but if you think you can save all of humankind, honestly, you can’t."

Gu Yu looked up defiantly, "You underestimate women."

"It has nothing to do with gender; it’s something no one could achieve."

"Do you think that becoming a player makes you strong? Let’s not talk about the rest; just providing a trading platform is something you can’t do. A Level D Player, a couple of Level E Players would be sufficient to take him down."

"Besides, do you know how many Cannibal Players have died at the hands of the government? They died under the guns of what you call ordinary people."

"So what?" Gu Yu lowered her voice in anger, "Just because it’s hard, we shouldn’t do it? Just because I’m weak, the things I want to do are laughable? Players might not be strong enough, but there are many more ordinary people. Should they just wait to die?"

Xu Huo chuckled in surprise, "I didn’t mean that."

Gu Yu took two quick steps and pushed past him, "Forget it, it’s a waste of time talking to someone like you who just muddles through!"

She entered the room first, without looking back she asked, "Is this the room you were talking about?"

"Yes..." Before Xu Huo could finish speaking, he saw her pull out a gun and fire three shots at the wall.

The gun looked no different from a regular firearm, and its sound when firing was quiet, more akin to a paintball gun, with the bullets also carrying color.

The three green bullets turned into liquid upon hitting the wall, instantly melting a large hole through the fabric covering the dark metal, revealing black metal underneath.

"This won’t work either?" Gu Yu frowned, then dialed the colorful wheel beneath the gun handle to the white slot and fired at the wall.

The white bullet dissolved just like the blue one, but what was different was that the white liquid formed a shallow concave hole on the black metallic wall. The black liquid that seeped down and reached the ground soon dried up in the wind, solidifying into a metallic strip.

Unable to snap it, Gu Yu proudly said to Xu Huo, "I bought this gun through the mutual aid society’s channels."

"Impressive," Xu Huo replied perfunctorily, moving over to lift the hanging wall fabric and take a look.

"Huh? There are drawings on this." Gu Yu peered closer.

"It’s a schematic." Xu Huo only lifted the corner of the wall fabric when checking the room, never expecting to uncover a hidden treasure in the middle.

He asked Gu Yu to move the things by the wall aside, then took down the entire piece of wall fabric, revealing the complete schematic before their eyes.

"What are these circles and lines?" Gu Yu didn’t understand.

"It’s an electronic circuit diagram, a bit different from what we’re used to." Xu Huo pointed to three places on it, "There’s a trap at each of these three locations, alongside a switch."

This diagram contained the entire wiring layout of Fenbei Town. Underground wires carpeted every inch of the town, including the surrounding woods and the outer walls.

"Strange," his gaze lingered on the edge of the schematic.

As Gu Yu tried to locate the switches, she stopped, "What’s strange?"

"There are too many switches inside the wall." It wasn’t odd for gates to have power for opening, but having a switch every twenty meters along the wall was conspicuous.

"Maybe they’re mechanically assembled, right? You can put them up and take them down," Gu Yu suggested, "How else would you erect walls that are seventy to eighty meters long?"

"But no matter how many switches there are, they’re useless now; there’s no electricity throughout the town, except those clocks are still chiming."

"If the traps’ switches work, we could just turn them off, no need to dismantle the houses."

"Can’t turn them off," Xu Huo said, "Those are automated switches; they close when the clocks signal the time and open again once it’s over. Since the town’s clocks are operational, the traps’ switches should be working normally. Forcing them shut is pointless; they’ll just open again when the time comes."

Gu Yu opened her mouth as if to say something but listened as he continued, "Destroying them is out of the question too. These wires are connected to the east gate, and our task in this replica is to leave the town. The two main gates seem to be the only way out presently. If we burn out the gate’s switch, the loss would outweigh the gain."

"Besides, the switches are likely underground. In such a big town, where do you start looking for an entrance?"

"That was a false hope," Gu Yu said after a moment, then slowly began to move things from the room to another. She planned to take down all the wall fabric to take a closer look.

Since they had to move stuff anyway, Xu Huo also pitched in, carrying out toys, bedding, and some notes on the floor that Gu Yu hadn’t noticed.

Soon, the room was nearly cleared out, and they worked together to take down the wall fabric, but this time, they didn’t find anything useful.

"It’s about time," Xu Huo said, "We have to go out."

When they returned to the main street, the bus was already speeding towards them. Lin Pei and his group were on it, having just explored the last sector of the town.

Lin Pei said, "The alien we just encountered is the same one that attacked us in the mayor’s office building. From what we can see now, there should be only three aliens in the town."
