Chapter 927: Chapter 927: Moving from a Triangular Camp to Cooperation
"The Eye of the Deceased" struck down without any resistance, but the baby-faced player wasn’t someone who sat idly by. After his attempt to disrupt his opponent failed, he held his hands in front of him parallel to each other and sliced through the air. Xu Huo, who had been directly in front of him, automatically shifted, passing by like two parallel lines, maintaining a certain distance face to face.
While the baby-faced player seized the initiative, he backed away the moment his characteristics took effect, only to find his path blocked by the girl who came up behind him. She gestured a heart shape with her hands before splitting them apart, and the baby-faced player was propelled backward, flying once again towards Xu Huo.
He was met with "This Way is Blocked". The baby-faced player burst out with a curse, curled up into a ball, and with a sideways flip, he automatically began spinning rapidly and flew upwards.
However, Xu Huo had already climbed into the air with "Gentleman’s Stance", and he brought his foot down hard, smashing the man back to the ground!
The baby-faced player was slightly injured and rapidly rolled on the ground to distance himself from them.
At this time, Xu Huo, the baby-faced player, and the girl each occupied one corner, while Shangguan Xi stood alone on the side holding the "hostage" Xu Huo had given him, maintaining a considerable distance all around and vigilantly watching each other.
Under the current circumstances, if the girl wanted to abandon her companion, it wouldn’t be easy for Xu Huo to keep her, nor could she likely take the live sample without losing her companion and thus missing the chance to finish the instance.
The baby-faced player needed the live sample and the vehicle, but he couldn’t possibly kill Xu Huo to take them.
As for Xu Huo, he had to consider both the live sample and the vehicle. If the baby-faced player decided to give up, it wouldn’t be too hard to break free.
The three factions, facing any opponent, had no fully selfish plans. If it came down to a fight to the death, the outcome was unpredictable, but the loss would certainly be substantial.
Shangguan Xi glanced around, cleared his throat, and finally spoke, "Look, since we can’t settle this by fighting, why don’t we just cooperate?"
"Think about it, we’ll surely encounter other players trying to steal the samples along the way. If we, three parties, cooperate, covering both air and ground, completing the instance will definitely be no problem."
"We are all here to complete the instance, and since our objective is the same and we have a chance to achieve it, why must we kill each other? There’s not much deep-rooted hatred between us. After the instance is over, we split up without any hard feelings."
The baby-faced player was the first to waver, looking around, "I have no objections."
Xu Huo glanced at the two, "I have killed your comrades, and we just let it go at that?"
"I must declare," said the baby-faced player, "those two weren’t my comrades; we just happened to come together."
All eyes turned to the girl, who glanced at her still unconscious companion, "With a better substitute, those two are irrelevant to me, dead or alive."
The baby-faced player clicked his tongue and added, "Now that we’re allies, I presume there’s no issue with me approaching the live sample."
Xu Huo made a ’please’ gesture, signaling Shangguan Xi to release the hostage they held and to call for Teacher Ai.
Shangguan Xi smilingly laid down the unconscious body in front of the girl, "With your thin arms and legs, I won’t burden you with carrying; just wake him up yourself on the ground."
The girl cautiously waited for ten seconds before reviving her companion with a potion. As the player regained consciousness, he instinctively protected her. After hearing her explanation, his face darkened as he cautioned, "These people are not like those two."
"It’s a compromise from the three parties," the girl instead patted his shoulder.
Shangguan Xi had already carried Teacher Ai over, and the off-road vehicle was moved out of the woods by Xu Huo and the baby-face. Xu Huo said to Teacher Ai, "A wire in the vehicle was cut; see if you can fix it. If not, we’ll need another plan."
Teacher Ai took a look, "I can fix it, but it’ll take some time to replace the entire line."
Xu Huo tucked away the shelter, nodded, and took out the "Sole Entrance", telling the girl, "You can stow your Spatial Artifact now."
The girl, expressionless, "It’s already stowed."
Xu Huo opened the prop location, first stowing the vehicle to facilitate Teacher Ai’s repairs. Whether the others went in or not didn’t matter; this was mainly to make repairs easier.
With the live sample inside, of course, the trio wouldn’t be absent and walked in one after another.
Shangguan Xi moved the live sample aside, verified with his bracelet while leaning in to observe through the vent, "What exactly is the live sample like..."
He didn’t finish his sentence when the supposedly calm live sample suddenly slammed against the metal cage, then began roaring madly, eyes and fingers squeezing towards the vent, intermittently revealing patches of skin that made it clear this was nothing close to a human, but a genuine Alien.
"Is there really research value in an Alien?" Shangguan Xi stepped back skeptically. "Aliens themselves carry toxins; what good can possibly come from them?"
"We’re here to complete the instance, not chase after the truth," Xu Huo placed a bottle of water near the vent, which was promptly smashed by the Alien, followed soon by swallowing noises.
The group fell silent for a moment before Shangguan Xi suddenly remarked, "I had almost forgotten they were once human."
But a bit of water wasn’t enough to calm an Alien; after drinking, it began pounding on the cage again, howling with all its might. The girl listened for a moment and then said, "We should just knock it out."
No one objected, allowing her companion to inject a sedative into the cage.
After it quieted down again, the baby-faced player suggested exchanging names.
He was named Zhu Feiyun, the girl was Kuang Wenjun, and her companion was Pan Qiao. Xu Huo gave them a false name, Xu Gou.
Knowing each other’s names was the extent of their introductions; no further details were shared.
However, repairing the car took longer than expected. After a pause, Shangguan Xi started inquiring about the others’ leaderboard rankings. Speaking a ranking was akin to revealing one’s nickname information. Pan Qiao glanced at him and remained silent, while the baby-faced player mentioned a rough figure of fifteen thousand.
"And you?" he nodded at Kuang Wenjun.
"I’m not ranked," she replied indifferently.
Shangguan Xi chuckled, "You guys aren’t great; my Brother Xu is in the top five thousand."
This remark made the others look at Xu Huo in surprise.
Ranking on the leaderboard represented not just singular strength; players like Kuang Wenjun might not be weak, but achieving high scores in each instance isn’t easy either, so it’s normal not to be ranked. More challenging than merely fighting is performing admirably within an instance. Those who make it onto the leaderboard are certainly not mediocre, let alone being in the top five thousand. Whether in Rank-D or Rank-C Copies, maintaining a high ranking was not easy. One or two subpar performances, and overall achievements would surely decline.
This signified that Xu Huo had always excelled in completing instances at a high level.
