Chapter 920: The Second Shot
Chapter 920: Chapter 920: The Second Shot
Under the dim light, the spurting of blood wasn’t visible, but Ding Wei’s falling figure was, and after her body hit the ground, a silhouette swiftly departed from a pillar not too far away, heading straight for the ramp leading to the fourth level.
When he had left, Xu Huo emerged from the shadows in the distance.
After the space had gone through Super Evolution, his range of mental control had expanded accordingly. Of course, it wasn’t enough to cover the entire underground parking lot, but a hundred meters or so was not a problem.
He placed his Spiritual World at the entrance of the parking lot. Lighting could affect people’s judgment, and anyone entering this area would unknowingly fall into an illusion. For example, Ding Wei and Zhao Jiahua who had come earlier were actually spinning in place the whole time, neither the slain Ding Wei nor the later fleeing Zhao Jiahua had reached the ramps leading up or down.
As for the tattooed man who had been chasing after him, Xu Huo had placed a "Little Mushroom Cloud" in front of the blood trail he was following. Estimating that the time was almost up, he traveled through the space back to the entrance of the parking lot, then used "Towards the Destination" to increase the distance from this building.
Accompanied by a roaring explosion, the parking garage collapsed rapidly, with the intense shock and dust sweeping out instantly. The surrounding buildings, battered by years of weathering, dissolved quickly like they were doused with water. Buildings closer to the center of the explosion were blasted into rubble!
Xu Huo stood high above, overlooking the explosion site, and two seconds later raised an eyebrow, "He didn’t die after all."
The explosion had only killed Zhao Jiahua. The game panel displayed an artifact as part of the inheritance that belonged to him.
However, his true purpose for going to the underground parking lot wasn’t to kill a Player. The location of the car had been showing there before, but he realized as soon as he went down that it was a ruse—no one was inside—the Player who had stolen the off-road vehicle had obscured the effect of the location Prop.
Looking around, Xu Huo did not see the car appear; instead, he spotted the doll-faced Player and Shangguan Xi approaching the south gate.
Turning direction, he headed for the south gate.
Shangguan Xi, carrying Teacher Ai on her back, was weaving through the streets. During the course, she said, "Brother Xu’s side is secure, no one is chasing us."
Teacher Ai frowned, "Without a car, how are we supposed to get to W37? He didn’t blow up the car along with everything else, did he?"
"If he blew it up, then so be it," said Shangguan Xi. "With so many props, there’s always a way to get there."
"Walking through the uninhabited area with a live sample is nearly impossible!" Teacher Ai said. "You guys might survive on your own, but can you ensure the sample’s survival?"
Shangguan Xi chuckled, "Whether we can clear the game is our business, why are you so worried?"
Teacher Ai was unapologetically blunt, "Whether you clear the game or not doesn’t concern me, but I need to get to W37. Without a vehicle, would you still take me?"
"Definitely not," Shangguan Xi casually replied.
Teacher Ai ground her Teeth with a grating sound, twisting to search for Xu Huo’s figure but instead saw the doll-faced Player first, prompting her to warn Shangguan Xi, "Someone is catching up to us."
"He’s not chasing us," Shangguan Xi responded. "If he wanted to fight, he would have approached us by now."
Speaking, she stopped, turned back, and called out to the doll-faced Player, "If the living sample is dead, then it’s dead. You clashing with Brother Xu is just mutual destruction; it’s simply not worth it!"
The doll-faced Player glanced at him with a stern face, just about to say something, when suddenly he looked in another direction and immediately changed his stance as if facing a great threat.
Xu Huo descended from the sky, saying, "The Player who stole the car should have come this way, where is the sample?"
"See that building with the thing resembling a Lightning Rod on top? The living sample should be over there," Shangguan Xi explained. "I ran into two Players on my way over, and that’s what they told me. But there’s a very powerful Player nearby; no one has been able to get close to the sample."
"I’m not sure about the specifics... Brother Xu, doesn’t this seem like someone is waiting for something?"
"Waiting for what?" Xu Huo responded.
"Either waiting for a car or waiting for people," Shangguan Xi said. "If that Player isn’t injured and unable to move, it must be that the Prop is limited, only usable at a fixed location. Leaving here or moving makes it useless. Whatever the reason, it means they’re looking for cooperation."
"Two problems," Xu Huo said. "First, are you certain the other party doesn’t have a partner? The one who stole the car could be someone else’s teammate. Secondly, if what you say is true, why would they hide and not show themselves?"
Now, the Player who had stolen the car was lying low, and there was no movement from the living sample’s side either.
Xu Huo glanced to the side, "Let’s find someone to ask."
"You want to ask..." Shangguan Xi hadn’t finished her sentence when he had already left. She didn’t know which direction he had gone, so she just had to continue to the south gate with Teacher Ai on her back, "Maybe Brother Xu will be lucky and snag the sample, let’s go there and wait."
Teacher Ai’s lips twitched, but she said nothing, her expression somewhat scornful. Still, it was unclear whether she was mocking Shangguan Xi’s wishful thinking or berating her for pushing the risks onto her teammate.
Xu Huo found an injured female Player in the corner of a building with ease. He stopped ten meters away, initiating conversation, "You’ve been here for a while, huh? I’d like to inquire about something."
He tossed her an Antitoxin as he spoke, "Try this."
The female Player caught the Antitoxin and gave him a skeptical glance, "What do you want to know?"
Xu Huo pointed towards the location of the living sample.
The female Player let out a scoff, "So you want to seize the living sample too? I’d advise you to abandon that idea."
"That living sample is bait, just a trap to lure Players."
"The artifact above the building most likely isn’t owned by a Rank-C Player."
"Based on what?" Xu Huo remained unfazed.
"Players from outside simply can’t get into the building." She continued, "It’s not that they’re stopped by someone; they are blocked by the building itself. As soon as someone approaches, streets and houses automatically extend outward, infinitely increasing the distance between the person and the building."
"Could it be an illusion?" Xu Huo asked.
The female Player gave him a cold look, "You can go and see for yourself whether it’s real or not."
Xu Huo raised his hand to signal her to relax, "According to what you say, the living sample is just bait, but if the other party wants to hunt Players, they shouldn’t prevent Players from getting close."
The female Player closed her mouth, choosing not to speak further.
Xu Huo thanked her and left, then went on to ask two more Players.
Perhaps they were all intimidated by the operations of the Player controlling the living sample, bringing about a brief peace amongst the other Players; some were even willing to share information, for many had been guarding all day without progress and were all waiting for someone to break the stalemate.
Their descriptions of the Prop’s effects were similar to what the female Player had mentioned, but their speculations on the motive varied.
Nevertheless, pooling all the information together, there were two apparent facts.
