Chapter 919: Chapter 919: Home Ground Advantage
"Sword!" The baby-faced player instinctively floated a step backward when he saw that slightly open eye, but his rationality stopped him, and he did not immediately turn tail and flee.
Xu Huo was unaware of the situation, but he did not show any sign of it, while the tattooed man frowned even more, readying himself for whatever may come.
The baby-faced and the tattooed men had only formed a temporary alliance and had faced off against each other before. Judging by their reactions now, it seemed a new disagreement had arisen.
Seizing this opportunity, Xu Huo swiftly closed in on the baby-faced player.
He had noticed that his opponent had been floating in the air, seemingly moving at will within the Gravitational Turbulence Zone he had created, but never with the same ease as when playing the clown. Moreover, the baby-faced player avoided getting close to the edges of the Gravitational Turbulence Zone, especially when it was short-lived, and he also seemed unable to don the clown’s costume.
Perhaps the clown costume and the strength of the gravitational field were connected, but there wasn’t enough time for Xu Huo to figure it out. However, one thing was clear: the best way to deal with the baby-faced player was to force him to the ground!
When he Instantaneously Teleported in front of the baby-faced, the latter, startled, retreated while activating a Defense Prop, which coincidentally collided with Xu Huo’s "Like Repels Like," propelling them rapidly apart, instantly creating a distance of dozens of meters!
The moment the distance widened, the baby-faced player did not hesitate to turn and flee, while Xu Huo was intercepted by the tattooed man, who, distracted, glanced at the sword in his hand and said coldly, "I won’t be fooled like him. If your sword was effective, you wouldn’t have waited until now to draw it. It’s possible that the one who died in that cage wasn’t a real living sample, and you still need to get the car back, right? Hand over the sample, and I’ll let you leave!"
Xu Huo looked at him without speaking, and inexplicably smiled. Then he saw him flip the sword behind his back, and a sudden crash sounded. The next instant, a building on the ground exploded right where the sword had been swung!
This was not the power of the "Eye of the Deceased," but an invisible Prop.
The tattooed man spoke to buy time, likely to set up a Prop of his own. Xu Huo didn’t intend on giving him the chance and wasn’t interested in wasting words. As the building on the ground burst open, he had already vanished from his original spot!
The tattooed man was taken aback, quickly using "Meteor Swarm of Fleeting Flight" to guard the front, and while some diamond-shaped white pieces flickered through the air, none captured Xu Huo’s figure.
The tattooed man’s eyes moved rapidly, searching, but in the next second, an invisible force struck him, sending him crashing into a building diagonally below!
Xu Huo followed closely after.
Subsequently, continuous combat erupted amongst the ruins of the damaged building. Both moved with equal speed and were equally skilled with their Props, yet Xu Huo favored defense, while the tattooed man was more aggressive on the offense.
This evenly matched situation didn’t last long. After the tattooed man used his invisible projectile Prop again, Xu Huo’s figure vanished from its original trajectory!
The tattooed man hesitated for a moment before moving forward to investigate, only to find several fresh bloodstains. Following the direction where the blood trails disappeared, he quickly made his way into an underground driveway in front.
By this time, Xu Huo had already vanished. However, considering that the only somewhat intact building nearby had fresh blood scent, under normal circumstances, he was likely hiding inside.
The tattooed man did not linger long and quickly descended underground—this was a five-story underground parking lot, plus the three preserved floors above ground, quite a vast area.
Meanwhile, not far from another entrance to the parking lot, the figures of Ding Wei and Zhao Jiahua appeared.
"It’s not too profitable to shake them off like this. Xu is quite the character, it would be good to have him as a hired gun," Zhao Jiahua said with some regret.
"Hired gun?" Ding Wei scoffed. "Xu is ruthless. You think of using him? Only an idiot like Shangguan Xi would believe he’d cooperate with others to clear the game. Do you believe that if he didn’t need someone to protect the driver, he would definitely turn on us?"
"He’s been entangled," Zhao Jiahua said worriedly. "If he’s no match for those two, it will likely be hard for us to keep the car safe."
"They’ll definitely end up injuring each other if they fight. Didn’t one die when they separated?" Ding Wei said nonchalantly. "Once we get back the car, the outcome over there should be decided. With a car, who couldn’t we cooperate with?"
Zhao Jiahua seemed persuaded by her and glanced over at the dark and damp underground parking lot where the power supply had been damaged, "Are you sure the car came here? I remind you, the player robbing the car is not easy to handle either."
"Whoever gets the car will need a driver," Ding Wei stated confidently. "I can drive."
Without saying much more, Zhao Jiahua followed her to the second basement level.
The underground parking lot was empty; figuring out whether anyone was there was straightforward and thus not troublesome. However, as they found more stairs leading down from the basement floor, both of their expressions changed.
"Could it be Mental Interference?" Zhao Jiahua quickly realized, using a lighting Prop to see Ding Wei’s expression. His eyelids drooped as he said, "If it’s Mental Interference, vision will be more affected. It’s better to turn off the lights."
Ding Wei did not object. Both put away their Props, and their field of vision darkened. Zhao Jiahua then suggested they trace their steps back the way they had come.
"Alright." There was a second of silence in the darkness before Ding Wei replied.
The two walked one after the other back the way they came, the darkness and silence amplifying their senses. But in the short span of a few seconds, which seemed much longer, the air behind them changed, and Ding Wei, leading the way, suddenly dove and rolled, flinging out a Prop.
The round metal piece moved swiftly back and forth through the air and returned to her hand. Slowly standing up, Ding Wei took out her lighting Prop to look behind: the spot where Zhao Jiahua had been was now empty, and the illuminated area was gradually shrinking, now only about ten meters in visibility.
Of course, Ding Wei wasn’t going to look for Zhao Jiahua. With a grim face, she proceeded along the driveway, initially just quickening her pace, but later outright used a Prop to sprint. After a long run, the passage still hadn’t ended.
Realizing she couldn’t break through the Mental Interference, she stopped and called out to her unseen companion, "I don’t know who is out here, but my name is Ding Wei. I can handle an SUV. If you’ve got the car, I can lend a hand. I also know the Prop details of a few players—others aside, but one of the players who came with me is a veteran. He definitely won’t just give up on the car, and he might have already tampered with it."
No response came from the darkness. After a pause, she continued, "If we work together, I can offer this information for free. I’m telling you, that player is not so easy to deal with."
No one stepped forward, but Ding Wei’s eyes suddenly became hard and serious. She turned and ran. However, before she could take two steps, a beam shot out from the ground and instantly split her in two!
