Chapter 908 Sole Entrance
Chapter 908: Chapter 908 Sole Entrance
"Let’s immobilize it!" Zhao Jiahua declared, watching as the mine lizard, moving swiftly through the rolling yellow sand stirred up by the rear of the vehicle, flicked its whip—lizards are indeed fast, but after all, they were still on the ground. With his height and the prop whip, it wasn’t hard to hit the mine lizard, and in fact, he did hit it. However, the electrified whip didn’t inflict any damage on this mutated creature; instead, it enraged the animal, causing it to let out a roar-like cry and abruptly leap several meters high onto the rear of the vehicle!
With quick reflexes, Zhao Jiahua threw a potion out, and the mine lizard, having just climbed onto the vehicle, slipped off due to the movement of the car. However, as it fell, they heard a dull thud from the rear of the vehicle. Teacher Ai said, "It’s hanging on the rear!"
Zhao Jiahua walked over to take a look, switching the whip in his hand for a two-meter-long sword. With one swing, he managed to knock the mine lizard off, but his sword hummed from the shock. "How has this thing evolved to be so tough!"
"I told you it could cut through vehicles!" Shangguan Xi yelled, turning her head, "Just shake it off, no need to fight it out!"
Without further hesitation, Zhao Jiahua took out a balloon and blew it softly; a two to three-meter-large ball flew out, catching up with the pursuing mine lizard. The mine lizard punctured the balloon with its catching spines. The ball exploded, enveloping its head in a sticky mass like chewing gum. The mine lizard tore at the substance on its body, slowly increasing the distance from the vehicle.
When Teacher Ai was sure the mine lizard wasn’t following, he finally slowed down a bit.
However, just as one problem subsided, another arose. Less than twenty minutes later, a huge arch appeared ahead.
It indeed was an archway, about twenty meters wide, standing there in the desert right in front of the vehicle. On one side of the arch were the words "Sole Entrance", and behind the door was still the desert, only somewhat blurrier than before, though it was hard to distinguish in the blowing sand.
"Why don’t you change direction now?" Shangguan Xi exclaimed when she saw the vehicle had no intention of turning, prompting Teacher Ai.
Holding the control stick, Teacher Ai said with a stern face, "Can’t turn, there’s a prop ahead!"
"You can always stop the car if you can’t turn," Ding Wei said from behind, "Then we can turn it around by hand."
Before Teacher Ai could stop the vehicle, Xu Huo, who had been silent, suddenly opened the door and jumped out. In the next second, the vehicle was flipped over by a huge wooden stake that surged up from the ground, the tail ending up in front, followed by another stake hitting the front, flipping the vehicle again, as if trying to forcefully send it toward the arch!
At that moment, Ding Wei leaped out of the vehicle, rolling on the sand and quickly getting up, scattering a handful of beans in front of the vehicle while also throwing out two potions.
The potion bottles exploded mid-air, and as the beans hit the water, they rapidly grew into a thick layer on the ground. The vines, robust and resilient, not only grabbed the vehicle but also cushioned the third stake bursting from the ground, causing the vehicle to just tremble in place and press the stake back down!
"Don’t all come out, watch out someone might steal the vehicle!" Ding Wei shouted to Shangguan Xi and Zhao Jiahua inside, then turned back to look towards the arch.
After leaving the vehicle, Xu Huo first reached the arch. The arch seemed to be a location prop, meaning even turning the vehicle around wouldn’t avoid this area. From the slightly blurred scenery behind the entrance, the area appeared to be not small.
Since the arch wasn’t made of metal, the "Life Core" wasn’t useful here. The door was clearly waiting for people to enter; it wasn’t worth the risk when inside and outside couldn’t communicate, so he took out the "Little Mushroom Cloud."
A cubic millimeter of space exploding didn’t mean this prop was only of this size; the explosion core was sealed in a thumb-sized translucent cube, with light flickering faintly inside.
However, at that moment, he felt someone approaching the arch from the inside. Seconds later, a frail woman staggered and knelt at the door, constantly bowing and kowtowing, her expression sad and her eyes pleading.
This was an ordinary person.
Xu Huo put the "Little Mushroom Cloud" back into the prop slot and gestured for the woman to come out, but she shook her head and pointed at the archway. Prolonged dehydration had cracked her lips, and as she spoke, blood seeped out. She knelt on the ground and wrote "Player poisoned", "Can’t collect props".
"It might be a trick," Ding Wei said, coming up behind him.
From a distance, Xu Huo asked the woman, "How many people are there? How many players?"
The woman looked at him and Ding Wei, a hint of desperation mixed with resolution in her eyes, and gestured the numbers "five" and "one."
Seeing Xu Huo about to go in, Ding Wei couldn’t help but say, "Are you serious?"
"Going in might not be safe, and don’t blame me if something happens. Besides, even if they are just ordinary people, do you really plan to save them? We barely have enough food and water ourselves. Don’t forget, resources are scarce at the W37 Base Station, and once we run out of water, it’ll be hard to replenish."
"You go back and help with the vehicle, try to keep it more than a kilometer away from the arch," Xu Huo said without further ado, stepping through the arch, and within seconds, he and the woman disappeared.
The situation inside the arch remained unclear, but from the outside, you could only see near the arch; step a little further, and you’d vanish into the desert backdrop.
Ding Wei listened for a while hearing nothing, then hurried back to the vehicle.
"What’s going on?" Shangguan Xi asked.
"He went in to save people," Ding Wei said lazily, "Have the vehicle back up a kilometer."
Everyone in the vehicle found it unbelievable; the vehicle had almost been overturned just now, and yet he dared to venture alone into someone else’s territory?
"Do players with such props need our help?" Zhao Jiahua could barely hide his sarcasm, "He’s no newbie, playing the good guy."
"Mind your own business!" Shangguan Xi snapped, "Brother Xu went in by himself, he didn’t ask us to go with him. If you can’t stand it, just wait, or try to pass through that arch yourself and see if you can make it!"
"Teacher Ai, can’t we go around?" Ding Wei asked with a smile, "We can’t just wait here either. If there’s no progress on his side, we at least need to figure out a route."
Teacher Ai nodded in agreement, "We can look for a route, but it’s best not to use the vehicle. If there’s a sinkhole underground, the vehicle might not make it back up."
"This is a road, isn’t it? It can’t be that dangerous," Ding Wei frowned.
Teacher Ai didn’t look back, "Roads are also paved with lives. Anyway, I only know this road."
Ding Wei and Zhao Jiahua exchanged glances, with no choice but to go and look for a route separately, reminding Shangguan Xi before leaving to not wander off and to lock the vehicle doors and protect Teacher Ai.
"Counting on you guys is like counting on Brother Xu," Shangguan Xi waved them off quickly, her eyes fixed on the archway ahead.
