Chapter 583: Chapter 583: The Mysterious Organization
Xu Huo was not a polite man, so after knocking, he sliced the door in half and entered, just in time to see someone stuck in the window.
As their eyes met, the youth in a hoodie and cap didn’t hesitate to leap out of the window.
Xu Huo strode to the window, and by then the youth was already sprinting along the street, and not slowly at that.
A second later, Xu Huo also flew out, grabbing onto piano wires, but he didn’t rush to pursue. Instead, he took out a Water Cutter Gun and pulled the trigger towards the walls of the next two or three buildings.
The water cutter easily penetrated the walls, and after hearing someone fall inside, Xu Huo landed to accelerate, predicting the fleeing player’s route based on the direction he had taken.
With "Straight-Line Distance" accelerating him, it didn’t take much effort to catch up to the man. He booted him in the face, and the guy flew back, toppling a string of trash cans before rolling to the intersection.
However, the blow didn’t inflict serious injuries, as the man took advantage of the momentum to jump to the opposite side and into a densely wooded park.
No sooner had Xu Huo entered, the scenery before his eyes changed drastically. Trees on both sides quickly retreated, the path under his feet stretched endlessly, and a thick fog rolled up ahead with shifty shadows and ghostly voices, hands and legs reaching out from the edge of the mist, all stretching towards him.
Putting on "Oxygen Supply," Xu Huo threw "Desert Pinwheel" on the ground, causing a sandstorm that made everything in front—fog, shadows—disappear. Three seconds later, he picked up his prop and with a lunge, hacked twice at different spots in the woods. As the trees toppled, two players leaped out.
They were clearly in league with the guy from before, sporting similar outfits, with only their eyes exposed.
"The rest of you can stop hiding; come on out together," Xu Huo spoke, holding his sword, and nodded his chin towards another spot where four more were hiding.
The two exchanged looks, and then one of them nodded, after which four others came out from behind the trees. For caution’s sake, they didn’t come too close, even the two in front maintained a distance.
"Twin Snakes Organization members?" Xu Huo asked; when he had been chasing the player before, he had seen a black envelope in the room where the player had been hiding.
"We’re not with Twin Snakes," the player who had nodded spoke up. "We were tracking a member of Twin Snakes and ended up here. We noticed they were sending you an invitation and stayed to watch a little longer. If we’ve offended you, I apologize."
"So among those surveilling me, there were members of Twin Snakes," Xu Huo said nonchalantly, having killed one on the fly. "The one in the room next to you?"
He asked the youth.
The youth at the back nodded and then looked forward.
"That was a Twin Snakes messenger. That invitation... you’d better not go. Those people are no saints," the talking player said just before they prepared to leave. However, Xu Huo cut off their path with a sword strike, "If you were just trailing the messenger, you wouldn’t choose that place to stay. The man’s dead, no more talking, and I can’t be sure if you’re in on it... Looks like your luck’s run out today."
As his words were about to end, he vanished from the spot, quickly appearing in front of the talking player, swinging his long sword at his throat!
Unexpectedly, the man was quick to react, dodging the sword by lowering his body, merely losing his cap, then quickly reaching for Xu Huo’s waist.
Xu Huo activated "Like Repels Like," and before the man could even touch his clothes, an invisible force knocked him three meters away. Xu Huo lifted his left hand, and the "Power of Writing" forced every player present to fix their gaze upon him.
This delayed the other players from using their props or abilities for a few seconds. After moving two steps, he threw out the "Star-binding Sphere," pulling all six players into his Spiritual World.
The park disappeared, replaced by utter darkness, and the six players looked around in panic. Where Xu Huo had been standing a moment ago, there was no one to be found!
"Brother Liang, what’s going on?" the youth asked the player who had been talking with Xu Huo.
"Stay calm, this might be a prop effect. Be careful and don’t let the scene before your eyes deceive you. We’re still in the park from before, and the opponent must be nearby; get ready to defend!" Brother Liang exclaimed, simultaneously pulling out a Defense Prop to guard his vital points.
The others did the same, able to see one another but not Xu Huo. For safety, they huddled together, wildly swinging their weapons and props around.
"What’s going on? There’s nobody here," said the youth. "If it’s an illusion, he would surely attack us while we’re distracted, right, Liang..."
Before he could finish, the youth suddenly vanished. Brother Liang turned around and called out anxiously, "Be careful..."
But before his voice settled, the player beside him also disappeared. This time, he watched it happen. He rushed over, shouting and grabbing, but the person was truly gone.
"Brother Liang, Xiao Zhang and Big Head are probably in big trouble," another player said urgently. "Quick, think of a way to escape! Don’t worry about us!"
"If we’re going, we go together!" As Brother Liang was saying this, he watched as the player urging him to flee disappeared right before him into the darkness, as if swallowed up, and the two who went to grab him were pulled in as well.
"Li Qun! Jin Yong!" Brother Liang charged forward, only to be met with Xu Huo head-on. His eyes were blazing with anger, "Where did you take them? Did you kill them? We have no grudges, why would you kill them!"
Hearing this, Xu Huo raised his eyebrows, "It was you who came after me."
Between clenched teeth, Brother Liang said, "I already explained. We were here because we were following the messenger."
Xu Huo scrutinized him for two seconds. "You followed the messenger because you want to find Twin Snakes? Why?"
Brother Liang stared at him in silence, but Xu Huo just smiled faintly, "I’m not with Twin Snakes. On the contrary, I’m quite interested in that organization."
He was interested because when the Special Defense Department sent people to investigate, they failed to uncover any problems, which was clearly abnormal.
If they were just a regular Player Organization, there would be no need for such clandestine meetings or recruitment methods. Under these circumstances, the more secretive they are, the more they seem to have something to hide. Hosting an overblown tea party was unnecessary, and the posts on the Pioneer Player forum appeared to be an intentional attempt to draw the Special Defense Department’s attention.
It was not uncommon for an organization to play games with a single target, and after checking twice, the Special Defense Department left it at that. However, this organization continued to select targets for invitations. As soon as he returned, moving from Ting City to Yang City, the organization quickly found him, indicating they had extensive information channels and were not simply a group of low-level players exchanging trivial gossip.
