Chapter 570: Paper Servant Master
Chapter 570: Chapter 570: Paper Servant Master
"I don’t think Clown City is necessarily going to get better from this. If all these warriors trapped in the cleaning zone are gone, the first thing they’re surely going to do is seek revenge on those who knew..." Zhuo Wangsun interrupted, glanced over at Sister Shan and the others, and when he turned back, the person beside him had already disappeared.
"He’s already left," Siming pointed toward the direction Xu Huo had left.
The female player hadn’t looked away yet, speaking with a hint of envy, "That potion of his is just too convenient to use, and it looks like it doesn’t even cost much."
"Where do you see that it doesn’t cost much?" Zhuo Wangsun paused.
"If that kind of potion was really so rare, how could he bear to use it on those people underground?" Siming said pragmatically, "How much potion would be used by so many people?"
Looking at the expressions of the two, it was obvious they thought Xu Huo was profiteering from the chaos.
Zhuo Wangsun didn’t waste words with the two, turning around and leaving.
"Why is he being so generous, we didn’t say anything else," the female player said somewhat awkwardly, "Old Wu did save our lives after all, and it’s only right to trade with something in return. I’m just feeling a bit of pain over it."
"Enough," Siming stood up, "we promised to help, let’s deliver these kids back to Clown City before leaving."
Unaware of the debate here, Xu Huo quickly made his way to Sunset Clown Town.
The fall of just one side of Clown City wouldn’t have any effect. If the two Clown Cities were isolated from each other, and with the heavy losses in Chaoyang Clown City, as long as this side’s defense walls didn’t fall, Chaoyang Clown City could also become part of the cleaning zone.
As he neared Sunset Clown Town, planes were continually taking off from Chaoyang Clown City.
Whether it was fate or coincidence, the water sphere that had nearly consumed a third of the city ended up collapsing the ground into the underground lair, while crisscrossing deep ravines swallowed a massive amount of water. This greatly relieved the pressure on the surface, preventing a widespread destruction of city buildings, and allowing many people to survive.
This also afforded the upper class residents of the city the chance to escape. Helicopters, big and small, were taking off one after another, all following the central government’s plane towards Sunset Clown Town.
Meanwhile, in the city, the fierce battle among high-level players had finally come to a temporary halt. The bearded man standing on top of a skyscraper had the rapidly moving papers, which swirled around him like ramparts, gradually decrease and come to a rest, turning into a few sheets of paper that fluttered behind him.
Standing no more than a hundred meters from him was another man, the high-level player who had used the water sphere attack earlier. Except for one who had used tickets to escape, all his companions were killed by the bearded man, and he himself continuously bled from the corner of his mouth, obviously severely injured.
The two stood facing each other. Although you couldn’t see the bearded man’s eyes, his body language showed he was in a relaxed state, as if he had not taken the battle seriously. In contrast, fear was deeply etched in the injured player’s eyes.
"You’ve killed so many of us, Paper Servant Master. From now on, no matter which district you go to, you won’t have peace!"
The bearded man, who was the Paper Servant Master, tilted his head slightly as if he wanted to say something, but soon held back.
The injured player grew even more resentful, "Don’t I even deserve to have you speak to me? You’re quite arrogant!"
The Paper Servant Master endured and then finally spoke, "You know that the Holy Sword Society spreads like fleas, from one district to another, causing panic and wanton killing; is that something to be proud of?"
The player’s face turned crimson with rage, pointing at the people wailing in the city: "Isn’t it because of you that they’ve ended up like this? If you were willing to hand over Feld’s Battle Angel, so many districts wouldn’t have been implicated by you!"
"You’re right," the Paper Servant Master surprisingly admitted, touched by the words. After stroking his chin, he continued, "To avoid future troubles, I will next visit the bases of the Holy Sword Society in each major district."
As the injured man watched in horror, he went on, "The casualties these game districts have suffered are partly my fault, but I think if you hadn’t come to steal Feld’s Battle Angel, the current situation wouldn’t have arisen. The best way to end this chain of causality is for one side to disappear."
While speaking, the Paper Servant Master tightened his wet hair on top of his head, his gray eyes fixated on a player atop a distant high-rise.
The injured player, horrified, was already thinking of escaping. Unfortunately, in the brief moment he accessed his personal panel to use his tickets, the Paper Servant Master had appeared before him. At the instant before he teleported away, a piece of paper slit his throat.
A few drops of blood fell, and the injured player’s body was already being transported to the station. The Paper Servant Master caught the bloodied paper and wiped it with a handkerchief. The wind from the rooftop blew once more, and his hair, which he had just combed up, drooped down once again, shrouding his eyes.
It was unclear where his gaze was focused, but the Paper Servant Master turned his head toward Sunset Clown Town and in the next second, disappeared from his spot.
Meanwhile, Xu Huo had finally arrived at Sunset Clown Town.
It was dawn now, the thin light painting both sky and city with the same hue, but one could still make out the bright lights seeping through from over the high walls—Sunset Clown Town was also in the midst of an uprising.
Catching the noise within the city, he first took the elevator up the protective wall, directly dissolving the metal structure from inside.
Whether due to excessive confidence or a lack of basic military training, the players who should have been on duty inside and outside the protective wall had all left, leaving behind only ordinary warriors. The best thing in their hands was a gun, but the weapon storage within the protective wall turned to dust along with the metal during the meltdown, and the remaining people were of course no match.
Xu Huo easily breached the protective wall and entered Sunset Clown Town.
The disturbance in the city seemed to have started not long after the one in Chaoyang Clown City and on a larger scale. Smoke billowed in many places, with airships spreading flyers about the true nature of the reality show throughout the city, and projection clips discussing "warriors" and "games" intermittently appeared and vanished in the sky above the city... These were probably filmed secretly at a gathering and were being spread wildly amidst the chaos. Although players continually tried to intervene, with so many eyes seeing them, even those unaware of the circumstances and unsure of the truth still incited conflicts within the city.
However, the chaos did not last long, as players and soldiers were quickly able to suppress it. The residents of Clown City, without even having the chance to learn the truth, were killed by their own compatriots.
Xu Huo saw what was nearly the endgame.
Communication between the two Clown Cities was difficult. Sunset Clown Town appeared to have widely exposed the truth, yet its effect was not as strong as in Chaoyang Clown City.
Discovering the truth gently and seeking accountability gently was not what Clown City urgently needed.
For Xin Lang, Xin Hui, and those who were sacrificed, the past could be completely abandoned; as for the future, the truth was not that important.
