Chapter 569: Rescuing Clown City
Chapter 569: Chapter 569: Rescuing Clown City
The female player’s first instinct upon seeing Xu Huo was to curse him out, but she held back her words when she saw the Siming he was carrying in his hand.
Smiling ambiguously, Xu Huo watched her as she quickly tried to placate him with a smile, "Old Wu, please lend me a hand."
Zhuo Wangsun used a prop to remove the mycelium from her body, at least managing to get her to a clean area. Compared to the female player, Siming seemed more desperate. He said weakly, "Even if we escape, we’re heavily poisoned, and by the time we reach the next station, we’ll be dead anyway."
Zhuo Wangsun stayed to find a fungus that could counteract the infection, but the reason the female player and Siming didn’t leave was that they hadn’t cleared the game; without clearing it, there were no Return Tickets. Even if they used tickets to move on to the next instance, passing through the station could make them prey to others. Compared to being eaten alive, dying here seemed a better option.
"Is Xin Hui dead?" Zhuo Wangsun asked Xu Huo.
Xin Hui’s motives were questionable. Since Xu Huo had returned alone, most likely Xin Hui was out of luck.
Xu Huo nodded without much explanation, simply saying, "Some higher-level players arrived at Clown City, that’s why the instance ended prematurely."
Zhuo Wangsun and the other two looked astonished and tense, "Higher-level players entered the cleanup zone?"
"That’s not the case," Xu Huo said. "But we definitely can’t go forward, we have to backtrack."
"Going back isn’t hard, but if higher-level players are in the fray, we need to leave first," Zhuo Wangsun couldn’t help but look at Xu Huo, "Can you sell me one of the antitoxins you gave to Jin Dong earlier?"
The female player looked at him with hope, "We’ve all been infected by the fungus, only you are fine. You must have a way, right?"
"I do have antitoxin here..." Xu Huo deliberately hesitated, "But it isn’t guaranteed to work."
"I’ll pay 200,000 White Notes for it," Zhuo Wangsun, who was wealthy and bold, offered. "If you have extras, I’d like to buy two more."
"200,000 isn’t enough," Xu Huo shook his head.
"I’ll add another 50,000!" Zhuo Wangsun immediately said, "Old Wu, brother, just name your price. As long as I can afford it, I won’t bargain!"
Xu Huo was straightforward, too; he handed over an antitoxin enhanced with King Fungus Mycelium, trading the item for the money right there.
"Wait," the female player stopped Zhuo Wangsun, implying, "Are you sure this antitoxin really works?"
After consuming the antitoxin, Zhuo Wangsun replied, "Old Wu has saved my life more than once. If he wanted to harm me, he wouldn’t need to use a potion."
Wouldn’t it be simpler to kill him directly?
"That’s not what I mean..." the female player awkwardly laughed and only after noticing the scars on Zhuo Wangsun’s arm fading did she grit her teeth and say, "I can trade with props."
Siming immediately presented his best prop, "A Pathfinder Mechanical Bird. It can walk and fly, perfect for mine-sweeping. It saved my life in the last instance."
"Level E Prop," Xu Huo was not very impressed.
"Plus 30,000 white notes, all for you," Siming added.
After hesitating, the female player also took out a Level E prop and Ten Thousand White Bills.
"The potion can be given to you, but you have to do me a favor," Xu Huo said. "Before coming to Mist Forest, I rescued two kids in that abandoned city, and later, I have to send them into Clown City."
All three of them looked at him in surprise, and Zhuo Wangsun said, "Even if you send them into Clown City, they won’t survive."
"The situation is different now, once you get out, you’ll understand. It’s not just the clearing zone; the entire Clown City is about to fall," Xu Huo replied. "This potion can last for a while, so you won’t have to worry about infection when you go out."
The group of four quickly left the underground nests. From the position of Mist Forest, nothing could yet be seen, but as soon as they climbed to a higher point, the lights from Chaoyang Clown City shone through.
"There really is another Clown City," Zhuo Wangsun remarked in amazement.
"Is that a water balloon?" the female player asked hesitantly, pointing to the wavering object that enveloped the city.
Without waiting for others to respond, the gigantic water balloon suddenly sank a notch, as if the city had collapsed under its weight, and then the water balloon burst.
"How many people must have died?" Siming asked, frowning. "Those high-level players really don’t care about ordinary people’s lives!"
The Paper Stacker player and the group chasing him appeared to know each other; they must have been chasing each other for a while, and their arrival at Clown City was just a coincidence, unrelated to Clown City itself.
They might not stay in Clown City for long, and Xu Huo wasn’t sure if the Nüwa Stone and King Fungus he had gotten from Xin Lang had drawn the attention of the Paper Stacker player, so he needed to quickly take care of things here and leave.
Without further delay, the group of four hurried toward Sunset Clown Town.
There was considerable activity on the Chaoyang Clown City side, which not only scared away the aliens, but also caused the warriors lingering in the clearing zone to feel uneasy and start moving westward.
The fact that the clearing zone mission was a scam had already spread among the warriors, especially after the collapse of Chaoyang Clown City’s defense wall. The game’s division between red and blue teams was definitive, and the warriors started removing their glasses. While avoiding the aliens, they also found their injured teammates who had been forced to flee from their groups.
Xu Huo and his group quickly caught up with the large troop about to reach the abandoned city. Master Tu and the others, including Sister Shan whom they had seen before, were all still alive.
As soon as they saw Xu Huo and Zhuo Wangsun, Master Tu and the others who had been actively explaining the situation in Clown City to others immediately stopped talking. Their actions were far worse than those of Sister Shan, who had accidentally killed their companions. They had been hiding the truth from others along the way, and now that someone who knew their secrets had appeared, they wished they could disappear on the spot.
Xu Huo paid them no attention and let Zhuo Wangsun go to fetch Fish Ball and Ice Cream, while he went to the city center’s underground fissure to give the water mixed with fungus mycelium to those white-haired people.
Zhuo Wangsun and the others had already confirmed that no matter which type of fungus it was, whether it was one infection or multiple, the potion mixed with mycelium was enough to dissolve the infection symptoms, so the water mixed with King Fungus mycelium was sufficient for these common people.
In just a few minutes, the signs of infection on these people began to recede. If King Fungus could indeed survive in the human body for a while, as Xin Lang said, then these people would not be infected again for the short term.
These people, who had been hiding underground for years, had not yet recovered their voices, so when the symptoms on their heads disappeared, they all cried and laughed, voicing hoarse and grating cheers.
People like Sister Shan above ground threw down ropes and pulled them up one by one.
These warriors, born in Clown City, who had once been full of passion to take back their homeland, wept bitterly upon meeting, tormented by years of suffering and relieved by the fortune of surviving the ordeal.
Zhuo Wangsun also brought the two children over, and Xu Huo gave them antitoxin before sending them back to their parents.
"Will these two groups end up fighting to the death?" Zhuo Wangsun muttered, subtly pointing at Master Tu and the others who were awkwardly hiding in a corner.
