Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!
Chapter 547: Ghostly Night

Chapter 547: Chapter 547: Ghostly Night

Although he didn’t manage to kill it, the explosion provided Xu Huo with an opportunity. Using the kite line, he threaded and dragged, and his fingers traced a line on the ground, creating a ray that perfectly bisected the approaching Alien.

"I can’t hold on any longer!" Zhuo Wangsun hurled two Poison Gas Bombs at another Alien, but the poison wasn’t strong, and the wind dispersed it quickly. Furthermore, the Alien moved so fast that even bombarding the surroundings provided only a brief delay before he was kicked away by the Alien right after he shouted.

Behind them, Xin Hui caught Zhuo Wangsun. Xu Huo then drew a line on the ground with his hand, repelling the Alien, and with his sword, he cleaved off one of the Alien’s arms.

The Alien, in pain, escaped into a clump of trees not far off, continuously emitting high-pitched cries.

"Not good, it’s calling its friends!" Xin Hui’s face changed as she urgently said, "We must leave here quickly!"

None of the three dared to delay, sprinting along the forest path. Along the way, Zhuo Wangsun scattered some perfume to mask their scent, but even this could not stop the astonishingly fast Aliens.

Seeing more and more Aliens leaping and chasing from behind, the three ducked into a dense forest shrouded in mist. They ran among the trees until the fog became too thick, and trees a few meters apart could easily be mistaken for people, then they stopped.

"The Aliens haven’t caught up?" Zhuo Wangsun turned around, gasping for breath.

Howls and roars came from the edge of the forest; the Aliens hadn’t entered this part of the woods at all.

"Could it be there’s something in here that even the Aliens are afraid of?" Zhuo Wangsun quickly deduced.

"It might be because the fog is too thick," said Xu Huo. "The vision of those two Aliens we saw earlier was highly developed, which is an advantage in combat. Coming here where they can’t see anything, they probably sense danger instinctively."

"Moreover, the ground isn’t entirely safe either." He lifted his foot, and under his boot were dense, sugar thread-like things — all fungal hyphae.

The forest floor was soft but firm enough not to sink into, yet the hyphae covering the surface were enough to bury the soles of their shoes, slightly sticky but not hindering movement.

"So many fungi," Zhuo Wangsun said. "I think we better not go further in."

Xin Hui took out a map, propping it up with a flashlight. "This place is called the Fungal Sea. It used to be a place where fungi grew wildly. No one has come to clear it for many years, and I guess it’s completely overgrown inside, so we can’t go in. Our best bet is to skirt the edge of the woods and go right through. That way, those red-eyed Aliens won’t dare to come in either."

Xu Huo looked at her subtly and then nodded. "We don’t understand the situation, and it’s going to be dark soon. We at least need to find a safe place to spend the night."

"Do you have a navigator?" Xin Hui asked.

"I lost mine a long time ago," said Xu Huo.

Zhuo Wangsun handed his over to her.

"Do you need my help?" Xu Huo asked her.

"No need," Xin Hui replied, checking the map for a moment before determining the direction.

After the three set off, Xu Huo asked, "Your map looks very detailed, unlike the ones we got from other people."

"I snatched it from a Clown City player," Xin Hui said. "It’s quite funny; he actually started doing business in the cleaning area, selling maps at high prices."

"He’s also a talent," Zhuo Wangsun said without thinking.

"You’ll find all sorts of people in the game, nothing surprises me anymore," Xin Hui glanced back at them and reminded, "For safety, try to touch as few of these fungi as possible."

Noticing her gaze on him, Xu Huo looked up at her and said, "Let’s leave as soon as possible; this place gives off a creepy vibe."

Although they said that, the three of them walked until it was dark and still hadn’t left the dense forest.

"There doesn’t seem to be a large span to this place on the map, and we haven’t found our way out yet; we must have gotten lost," Xu Huo took Zhuo Wangsun’s navigator and asked, "Is this thing broken?"

Zhuo Wangsun had no idea, "I’m using a navigator provided by Clown City; it’d only be wrong if it’s been inaccurate from the start."

After thinking for a moment, Xu Huo said, "Maybe there’s something wrong with the magnetic field here."

This wasn’t a strange suggestion, and both Zhuo Wangsun and Xin Hui accepted it, albeit with some regret for having walked so much in vain.

"We can only wait for daylight tomorrow," Xin Hui said, "Hopefully we can see the sun from here."

Xu Huo looked up at the sky, almost completely obscured by tree leaves, the fog was too thick to make out much, only a slight contrast of light and dark could be seen at the edge of the trees.

"The fungal filaments on the ground seem to be getting stickier," Zhuo Wangsun lifted his leg and looked around, then chose a large tree as thick as a person.

Xu Huo climbed up a nearby tree to rest, while Xin Hui was behind Zhuo Wangsun, "Let’s take turns keeping watch; you guys sleep first."

She was the most injured, so naturally, Zhuo Wangsun wouldn’t let her keep watch the second half of the night, giving her the first half while he and Xu Huo took the latter half.

Xu Huo easily leaned against a tree branch to rest, he hadn’t planned on sleeping, but after a while, he fell into a half-asleep, half-awake state as if he weren’t asleep, but two hours had passed when he opened his eyes.

Zhuo Wangsun, beside him, had also fallen into a deep sleep, and Xin Hui, who was supposed to be keeping watch behind him, was nowhere to be seen!

Flying over to Zhuo Wangsun, Xu Huo had to prick him twice to wake him up, Zhuo Wangsun immediately lowered his voice upon assessing the situation, "How come we’re missing one person..."

Before he could finish, his gaze suddenly fixated on something ahead; he strained his eyes and uncertainly called out, "Xin Hui?"

Xu Huo turned around only to discover a shadow darting not far from them!

He squinted his eyes, focusing on where the shadow had been, but captured nothing out of the ordinary.

Xu Huo could normally see in the dark, but with the fog blocking his vision, he couldn’t make out whether the fleeting shadow was human or an Alien, and what was even more abnormal was that he hadn’t sensed how the other had appeared!

This area was within his range of perception; even if someone or something alive moved behind the trees, he should’ve noticed, but the other had arrived near him without any sound.

"Let’s go," Xu Huo led Zhuo Wangsun through the air, but then he saw more shadows emerging around him.

"They’ve come after us!" Zhuo Wangsun said anxiously.

Several shadows appeared behind them, their movements tracing a gradual encirclement. Zhuo Wangsun urged to run faster, but Xu Huo adjusted their direction mid-course and charged directly towards one of the shadows!

"Better to face the threat head-on than to sit and wait for death!" he shouted, his voice echoing through the woods.

However, when the two of them flew over, the shadow behind the tree had vanished without a trace, not attacking them at all.

Xu Huo jumped directly onto a tree and after setting Zhuo Wangsun down said, "Follow me."

The trees here were dense, and with the abilities of a player, it wasn’t a problem to move through the treetops. Seeing that the shadows had no intention of attacking, Zhuo Wangsun took the opportunity to show concern for Xin Hui, "Where did she go?"
