Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!
Chapter 534: The Remnant’s Stronghold

Chapter 534: Chapter 534: The Remnant’s Stronghold

The temperature in the Stone Forest was high, and with the burning of corpses, it really wasn’t a good place for conversation. Therefore, Gao Peng led Xu Huo and Zhuo Wangsun back to their home base.

The vehicles they used were desert motorcycles. Xu Huo and Zhuo Wangsun got on the bikes ridden by Gao Peng and Cen Lu respectively. The motorcycles, packed with power, ran effortlessly, the noise thunderous.

"Aren’t you afraid of attracting Aliens with such a loud noise?" Zhuo Wangsun shouted.

Riding with Xu Huo and alongside Cen Lu, Gao Peng laughed and said, "It would be best if they did come. The brothers haven’t had their fill of killing today!"

Several other motorcycles roared past them, taking down some Aliens that were poking their heads out in the distance.

Xu Huo could tell that these people were skilled in gunplay and had rich combat experience, and they were not primarily players.

Exiting the Stone Forest led them to a vast dune area. The motorcycles climbed over the gentle slopes continuously, and once back on flat ground, a straight road appeared in front of them, which shockingly led to a city full of skyscrapers!

"There’s actually still a town here!" Zhuo Wangsun exclaimed in surprise.

"From what you say, the Cleaning Area used to be part of Clown City, how could there not be urban buildings." Gao Peng said, "But that place has been abandoned for a long time. Now it’s inhabited by the survivors and Aliens."

"Are there still Aliens inside?" Xu Huo interjected.

"Yes, and not just a few." Gao Peng said, "But you don’t need to worry. The Aliens usually stay underground. Even outside the Stone Forest Area, the temperature isn’t low, which not only scares people, but Aliens too. So, most of the time, they hide underground, only coming out when looking for food."

"We’ve cleared out a stronghold in the city center." Cen Lu chimed in, "Master Tu modified the water and electricity, and living inside, we hardly lack anything."

"There’s still a clean water source in the city?" Zhuo Wangsun asked curiously, "Isn’t the air here all toxic?"

"How could the air possibly be toxic? We’ve been here for almost half a year with no problems." Cen Lu said with a chuckle, "You didn’t eat some hallucinogenic mushrooms in the Jungle Area, did you?"

"As for water, we draw it from underground, and it’s purified before it enters the water supply system, very safe." She added.

As they conversed, their vehicles had already entered the city limits.

Similar to the post-apocalyptic world depicted in movies and TV shows, the abandoned buildings and roads were cracked and eroded due to the heat and strong winds. Signs of combat were visible everywhere - shattered glass, twisted metal, collapsed houses, and the wreckage of vehicles.

Due to the climate, even though it had been abandoned for a long time, there was still no vegetation, and the pervasive smell of rust meant this was a city that had completely died.

While navigating through the city, Gao Peng and the others slowed down and controlled the noise of their bikes, taking care to avoid the city’s center and sticking to the outskirts instead.

"Are there Aliens ahead?" Xu Huo looked forward.

"There’s a crack about thirty feet deep in the city center, hiding quite a few Aliens," Gao Peng explained. "But now we’re heading home, so there’s no need to disturb them."

Xu Huo sensed that there were a few scattered people watching them, likely comrades of Gao Peng and the others. However, there were no Aliens as they had mentioned.

After circling around half of the city, Zhuo Wangsun couldn’t help but say, "The Aliens here are rather quiet."

"The Aliens hiding in the fissures lack combat strength," Cen Lu explained. "Most of the time, they won’t come out to cause trouble, so we just let them be."

Zhuo Wangsun nodded and glanced over at Xu Huo.

This claim was far-fetched. Since establishing a base in the city, dealing with this dangerous neighbor was the first order of business. How could they possibly leave them be just because they weren’t ferocious enough?

Yet, both maintained a tacit understanding and did not continue to press the matter.

The car soon stopped beneath a commercial building. Several sentinels showed themselves from a moderate distance. Gao Peng raised his hand to them, and the remote-controlled door, fortified with metal, swung open. The group entered, and the people inside came over to greet them eagerly.

Gao Peng greeted them back and said to everyone, "Today’s haul is good, so everyone can take a two-day rest. We can just take turns on duty."

There were over a dozen warriors on the first floor, who seemed pleased to hear this. One of them, with a lightning bolt shaved into his head, looked Xu Huo and the others up and down and then said, "Are they players?"

A noticeable shift occurred among the crowd, with some faces turning sour—apparently not too fond of players—as they moved away with less cheer.

Gao Peng said, "Old Wu and Zhuo Wangsun, they’ve come with the warriors from Clown City, they’re comrades who’ve fought together!"

The shaved-headed man retorted, "Players are not our comrades."

Their resistance was all too apparent, and Zhuo Wangsun instinctively moved closer to Xu Huo.

"They are not bad people," Gao Peng didn’t elaborate much and led Xu Huo and Zhuo Wangsun into the elevator.

The first floor was for sentries and dealing with the first wave of assaults—the thirtieth floor, situated in the center of the building, was where the stronghold members mainly congregated.

The elevator was powered, and so was the hotel on the thirtieth floor. They could hear deafening music from inside even before the elevator doors opened. A few youths were bobbing their heads and gyrating on the sofa, while an older person was assembling mechanical tools.

"Master Tu," Gao Peng greeted the elder, while Cen Lu turned down the music to introduce them to each other.

Master Tu was the skilled craftsman they spoke of, who was proficient in water and electrical modifications. In fact, he was a teacher of mechanical engineering, with strong theoretical knowledge and practical skills. What he was assembling were rudimentary surveillance devices made from outdated materials collected from within the city.

The group of youths also had their specialties, clearly having undergone professional training.

Their attitude towards Xu Huo and the other newcomers was lukewarm, and after exchanging a few words, Cen Lu led them to find a room to rest.

So, Xu Huo and Zhuo Wangsun went to the twenty-ninth floor.

"It seems they’re quite unfriendly towards players," Zhuo Wangsun commented while standing under the vent of the air conditioning unit, "They’re probably afraid we’ll contaminate the clean water source."

"If they were really worried, they wouldn’t have brought us here," Xu Huo responded indifferently. "Players can leave once they complete their missions; they can’t stay to help."

Zhuo Wangsun was taken aback, "Then why did Gao Peng invite us over with such enthusiasm?"

Xu Huo gave him a glance but said nothing. However, Zhuo Wangsun couldn’t help frowning, "They say the air is fine, but why did Jin Dong suddenly transform into an Alien?"

"There might be other reasons," Xu Huo said offhandedly and then went into the bathroom to wash up. Afterward, he inspected his body for any signs of infection, finding none.

Although he had always worn "Oxygen Supply," his skin had also been in contact with the air, but he had not experienced any emotional abnormalities or hallucinations, which meant the air was likely safe. At least, Gao Peng and the others were all normal.

Perhaps it was the food and water that affected those in the Stone Forest Area, who killed and burned bodies.
