Chapter 524: Chapter 524: Swamp Area Alien

"You’re just a new player, don’t mistake your own scope of knowledge for the limits of the game world, there’s a lot you don’t know," Yue Weiping said.

"We’ve seen the bodies of Aliens," Liang Song added. "Although the degenerative features of their exterior aren’t obvious, their bodies have been severely contaminated. Moreover, they use their appearances to lure warriors. If unsuccessful, they might even resort to suicide attacks. Once a person comes into contact with the bacteria, it’s very easy to get infected."

"So, there are two difficulties you’re facing, first, direct contact with an Alien will result in infection, and second, removing the glasses will damage your eyes," Xu Huo summarized. "In the first case, as long as you don’t directly touch an Alien, the chance of contagion is reduced. Your mouth and nose are exposed, which implies you’re not worried about airborne transmission. Given that, inspecting a body carries a low risk of infection."

"As for the second point, the light from the highlight lamps on the protective wall is harmful to the eyes. Since we’re far enough from the protective wall, and there are no lamps nearby, the naked eye should be able to adapt to the light around here."

"You mean to say that some light may harm the eyes without us realizing, but the glasses we use don’t seem to be made of any special material. In other words, they aren’t designed for specific wavelengths of light, so other forms of eye protection could achieve the same effect."

The other three exchanged glances, and Yi Mao said, "What you say makes sense, but forcibly destroying the glasses might cause the identity verification to fail, which means we wouldn’t be able to get the government’s reward."

"That is indeed a problem," Xu Huo said, when suddenly he turned to the right, soon followed by the sound of a bullet striking metal!

As he looked up, fragments flew off his face; Yi Mao and others instinctively crouched behind the withered trees, simultaneously firing in the direction from where the bullet came!

In fact, none of them had spotted the target. They just saw Xu Huo being "killed," feared a repetition of earlier events, and shot first, asking questions later. A few seconds later, a "person" leaped from the mud, not fleeing from the gunfire but instead charging at them!

"It’s an Alien!" Yi Mao was the first to see clearly and couldn’t help but shout, but the creature’s onslaught was fierce, leaping towards him with such force that he nearly fell, saved only by Liang Song’s timely pull to the side.

However, the Alien, having missed its strike, then lunged at Xu Huo, who was standing aside.

Yue Weiping had already fled by throwing off Xu Huo’s hand when Xu Huo was hit, so when he still stood there, they were somewhat surprised, but then they realized they had been wrong. Xu Huo hadn’t been hit at all!

Xu Huo wasn’t surprised when the creature lunged at him; as it closed in, his crossed fingers conjured strings in mid-air that hoisted it up.

The "Alien," suspended in the air, clutched at its throat, struggling and producing intermittent gasps for air. Meanwhile, Xu Huo removed his already shattered glasses and addressed the suspended mud figure, "Can you still talk?"

The "mud figure" did not respond, its eyes bloodshot, glaring at him, drool dripping from the corners of its mouth.

Xu Huo took out some food he carried with him and tossed it over; the figure, despite still hanging by its neck, lunged forward to catch the jerky with its mouth, all the while struggling desperately, refusing to let go of the meat.

"You’d best not act rashly," Xu Huo said, turning his head toward Yue Weiping.

By now, in the eyes of Yue Weiping and the others, Xu Huo wasn’t wearing his glasses. They were brought up short by his cautioning gaze, belatedly realizing that his vision hadn’t been affected.

Yue Weiping, who had just raised his gun, slowly lowered it and, along with the other three, stepped back.

Only then did Xu Huo lower the "mud figure" to the ground, still encircling its neck with the strings but not tightening them. The figure clearly had no interest in attacking him, instead chewing eagerly on the jerky, eyes vigilant upon him,

It didn’t seem to have completely lost all reason.

Xu Huo tossed a water bottle over; this time, the "mud figure" caught it, managed to unscrew the cap and poured water into its mouth. After choking, it furiously pounded on its chest, and, without waiting for the food to go down completely, it stretched out its hand again.

He gave him a few more pieces of jerky, and the "mud man" simply sat down, tearing and chewing the meat while drinking water, completely ignoring the several people present who wanted to kill him.

In the eyes of Yi Mao and the others, Xu Huo was "feeding" an Alien, but that humanoid heat signature made movements identical to a normal person, not at all like an intellectually degenerated Alien.

"Aliens can imitate humans," Yue Weiping said. "Besides, they were originally humans, so it’s not surprising that their behavior and habits are similar to ours."

"You brought extra water, right? Give me some," Xu Huo turned and said to Liang Song.

"We might not even have enough water for ourselves," Wan Xiao whispered as a reminder.

However, Liang Song still didn’t hesitate to bring out a bucket, and Xu Huo thanked him and took it, splashed it on the Alien, and after washing off some of the mud from his body, he observed for a moment and said, "There are red and black patches on the skin, probably from a bacterial infection."

"That must be the bacteria carried by the Aliens themselves!" Yi Mao’s face changed drastically, he picked up a scarf to cover his mouth and nose, and said, not very clearly, "Don’t get too close!"

Liang Song and the others also changed their expressions and hurriedly increased their distance.

Only Xu Huo remained squatted in front of the man, observing carefully for a while before saying, "I think I’ve seen this kind of bacteria before."

Having said that, he searched through his personal panel, found a bottle of potion, and threw it over.

The other person didn’t care what he was tossing; as long as it was edible and drinkable, he shoved it into his mouth, biting the bottle open and swallowing the potion and blood together.

After a while, he extended his hand for more food, but this time Xu Huo didn’t give him any, tightened the bowstring and lifted the man up, but only to make him stand.

The man seemed to fall into a brief confusion again, beginning to struggle and kick, but not as frantically as before, and eventually, as if tiring from his own struggle, he simply stood there without moving, and after not too long, he actually began dozing off on the spot.

"What is he doing?" Yue Weiping couldn’t help but ask in a low voice, "Does he actually want the Alien to revert to normal?"

"Should we go?" Wan Xiao suggested.

"Let’s wait and see," Liang Song said with a frown, and reassuringly patted Yi Mao on the shoulder.

Having no other option, they had to wait; another hour passed, and Xu Huo suddenly spoke up, "Awake?"

He wasn’t asking Liang Song and the others but the Alien in front of him.

The once red-eyed, frantic Alien seemed to regain some brightness in his eyes. He observed his own condition and then looked at Yi Mao and the others, who were pointing their guns straight at him, gestured to his neck and then waved his hand.

Xu Huo casually broke off a dry twig and gave it to him, retracting the bowstring, "If you can’t speak, write it."

The man squatted down and wrote on the damp earth: "What time is it now?"
