Chapter 509: Chapter 509: Hospital She Couldn’t Leave
"I think it’s a hallucination," Xu Huo said. "If the Red Bracelets are alone, they probably won’t come and provoke so many of us."
Everyone looked at each other, and after a while, a skinny player vigorously rubbed his eyes and said, "It seems to be because we haven’t rested for a long time."
Everyone accepted this explanation, having been chased by the Red and Black Bracelets for several hours; they now finally had a chance to catch their breath.
"Then let’s take the opportunity to rest while the other players are away."
The White Bracelets thought the Red Bracelets were just temporarily isolated in other parts of the instance, not expecting to meet them just gave them a chance to recuperate and replenish their items, but it was not easy for the Red Bracelets either.
On the Red Bracelets’ side, there appeared a proper outpatient hall, but they were already patients wearing bracelets, waiting for a doctor to perform psychological treatment on them.
There were also players with bad tempers who tried to attack the hospital and the nurses, but then security guards would swarm in, restrain them, and drag them into the wards.
Some players who realized that the people in the hospital might be hallucinations began to search for ways to save themselves, like loudly calling for help from Captain Matt or trying to escape through the windows, but after getting no response and after two players fell from the building and went completely silent, the others calmed down and started thinking about clearing the instance to leave.
"It’s your three’s turn," the nurse came over and called out to three Red Bracelets, then left without looking back.
"I want to see what sort of tricks this so-called psychologist can come up with," a noble player said. "Isn’t it a clear pass once you kill the doctor? Perfect!"
This person was Ellison, who had watched the bloody "performance" in the club with the now-deceased Palad.
"Ellison, don’t be reckless," the person next to him reminded, "Didn’t you attend the class? The greater the emotional fluctuation of the players in a psychological instance, the harder it is to clear."
"No matter how difficult it is, it’s just a Level E instance," Ellison waved his hand dismissively. "As long as you don’t believe it, you won’t be fooled."
Most of the people present held this idea; it was really because the random instance’s level was too low.
After Ellison and the others left, a man and a woman, two Red Bracelets, left the main group by themselves. The woman said to the man, "Brainless fools, if this instance were really so simple, Ashis Verna wouldn’t have failed to appear until now. Surely a Rank-A player wouldn’t just clear it and leave."
"But didn’t we just search this floor? The second floor is empty, and there’s no one else."
"I’m familiar with Captain Matt’s items; the central elevator is the key. Even if the ship is damaged, as long as it doesn’t sink, the elevator can be used."
The woman said this as she pulled out a detector and after making a couple of rounds in the building, finally located the position of the elevator. The only trouble was that the corresponding spot for the elevator was a wall.
The man took out an explosive device.
As these two prepared to bring down the wall, Ellison and the others had entered different treatment rooms.
The nurses merely let them in, but once inside, they didn’t see a doctor—only an empty office with a simple file that contained some information about them such as their life, origins, interests and hobbies, and past actions, as well as an evaluation of them.
Such a vague evaluation could apply to many people, especially since Xu Huo had previously seen Ellison and had a basic judgment of him, but Ellison was still angered. After smashing the office, he prepared to leave but discovered a secret door hidden next to the cabinet and went over and opened the door without hesitation.
Stepping inside, it was still an office, not much different from the outside, except for an additional bed for resting. There was also a small door on the inside.
"Playing tricks!" Ellison continued to open doors, finding yet another office behind each one, but this room was covered in photographs. Some were of him, some were of his family members. When he saw a particular one in the middle, the veins on his forehead bulged with rage. He stormed over, tore the photograph down, and ripped it apart, bellowing, "Come out if you dare, instead of hiding and playing these petty tricks!"
The ticking of a clock sounded. Angered, Ellison quickly realized that he was being led by the nose. He turned around to head back and, just as he touched the door, he faintly heard a sound from outside, like an explosion, but it was too distant to hear clearly. Still, he quickened his pace and retraced his steps back the way he had come.
After passing through several offices, he finally reached the outermost door. But upon opening it, he was not greeted by the corridor; instead, another office lay before him.
Someone was sitting behind the desk and looked up upon hearing the noise, "You’re here, sit down."
"Is it you?" Ellison frowned, "Aren’t you the little player introduced by Duke Tal?"
Xu Huo wrote something on a document, "There’s new content today. Can you describe what this Duke Tal you speak of looks like?"
Ellison laughed absurdly, "Nice try acting out the part here in the instance!"
After saying that, he suddenly stretched out his hand toward Xu Huo, as if to throw something, yet nothing appeared at all.
Ellison was in utter shock and repeated the gesture several times, then in disbelief said, "How can this be!"
"Sit down first," Xu Huo pointed to the chair next to him, "Calm down, I’m not your enemy. Didn’t we have a good conversation before?"
"Before?" Ellison scoffed subconsciously, but then he noticed several photos under the desk. They were all group pictures of Xu Huo wearing a white coat with others. In one photo, he was with Ellison, both holding a banner inscribed with "Skilled and Kind-hearted".
Ellison’s eyes trembled for a moment, as if he was recalling something.
"Your condition had improved before. You met the discharge criteria; I thought you wouldn’t come back again." Xu Huo sighed and looked at him sincerely, "Have you started indulging in holographic games again recently?"
"What games?" Ellison asked reflexively.
"Dimensional Rift," Xu Huo said.
"Right, Dimensional Rift!" Ellison slammed his hand on the table, "This is an instance, and all I have to do is kill a doctor to clear it!"
Xu Huo frowned, reached under the desk, and pressed something. Straps sprang out from Ellison’s chair, binding him tightly. Then Xu Huo took a syringe from the drawer and approached, "This is a sedative; it’s good for your condition."
Ellison watched the approaching figure and began to struggle frantically, "I don’t want an injection! What the hell are you trying to shoot me up with! Let me go! This isn’t real! It’s all an illusion!"
Xu Huo stopped in his tracks and warned him, "Do you want to use the Sleep Medicine again? Uncooperative patients receive solitary treatment for twenty-four hours. Have you seen how many needle marks there are on your arm?"
Out of control, Ellison looked at his right arm and discovered more than a dozen needle marks, old and new.
Noting the change in his demeanor, Xu Huo added, "Overuse of the Sleep Medicine can damage the brain. You don’t want to stay in the hospital forever, do you?"
