Chapter 490: Chapter 490: Staring at Death
The man wearing the red bracelet donned attire unique to nobles, sparkling with gold. He gave Xu Huo a glance, seemingly weighing something, before saying a moment later, "Prey is plentiful; no need to be so tense."
After speaking, he walked straight away.
Xu Huo watched him disappear around the corridor’s corner before closing the door. Looking at the still petrified Palad, he smiled faintly, "You’re beyond saving."
Palad was still clutching his neck, but the blood kept flowing out. The potion he had used was completely ineffective, and he couldn’t utter a word, only begging Xu Huo for help with his eyes.
Xu Huo just leaned against the table beside him, lit a cigarette, and looked down at him with indifferent eyes.
Palad’s pleading look gradually turned to anger. He forcefully patted the chest badge that symbolized his status and then pointed at Xu Huo, as if questioning how Xu Huo dared not save him!
Unfortunately, Xu Huo’s expression didn’t change at all, still watching him as if observing an insignificant animal’s final struggle on the roadside.
Palad slowly started to panic and turned to run towards the door.
The Xu Huo who had been standing by the table a second before turned and stood in the doorway, raising the Crimson Sword with precision to slice open the badge on his chest.
The metal badge broke in two and hit the ground, Palad stumbled back a step, then took out a scepter-like prop, raising it high. The gemstone on top released a dazzling red light.
Seizing the moment Xu Huo closed his eyes, Palad turned and ran towards the window, simultaneously donning protective armor. But just as he was about to attempt his escape again, a thin thread struck his neck, and immediately afterward he became light as a feather, flying backwards.
Palad was somewhat quick-witted, knowing he couldn’t get away from the prop, he instead grabbed a handful of powder and threw it at Xu Huo.
He thought Xu Huo would fall for it, being unable to see, but even with his eyes closed, Xu Huo knew his next move precisely. Players who hadn’t undergone the real ordeal of copies and bloody fights simply didn’t know how to disguise themselves, and their actions were excessively large.
"Oxygen Supply" now secured on his head, Xu Huo held the man in his grasp, covered his mouth neatly, and shattered his kneecaps with a kick, then tossed him aside.
Actually, Palad couldn’t make much noise anymore; blood flowed more and faster from his mouth and throat. Thrown to the ground, he curled up, exhaling more than he was inhaling, only able to make a strange "gurgle, gurgle" noise.
Xu Huo squatted down two meters away to make him see more clearly, even pulling over a floor lamp.
Gasping, Palad stared straight at Xu Huo’s face. In the last moments of his life, he suddenly struggled, but that conscious resistance was fleeting, after which he fell into instinctive convulsions and stopped breathing after about ten seconds.
Xu Huo dusted off his hands and stood up, moving the lamp close to Palad’s body, shining the light on his face that wouldn’t close in death, then left the room.
During the short time Xu Huo dealt with Palad, the entire ship had already become a bloody slaughterhouse. From time to time, screams could be heard coming from different places, and in some dark corners, you could see players crouched on the ground, feasting.
In the corridor, with rooms opened, bodies were everywhere. At a glance, the majority of the dead were waiters, and a significant proportion of those invited on board with white bracelets were players, who hadn’t reached such a dire state yet.
Just as he approached the elevator doors, Xu Huo felt someone rapidly closing in from behind. He quickly drew his sword and held it horizontally in front, but a Cannibal Player with a red bracelet stepped on the blade and crashed into the just-opened elevator with him.
The Cannibal Player followed him in, immediately locked the elevator with his bracelet, and after pressing the button for the first floor, his finger with the blade swept towards Xu Huo’s throat!
Xu Huo blocked with his sword, while simultaneously tossing out the Fair Wallet and the Lament of the Plants. A realistic eyeball fell from the other hand of the attacker, who instinctively drew back his hand to protect his ears from the piercing sound.
Using the Omnipresent Strings to tie up his opponent’s feet, then pulling with the Non-Knotting Thread, Xu Huo tripped the other player over. A lighter clicked, but the clothes of the red-bracelet player didn’t catch fire.
This meant setting a fire was futile, so Xu Huo released a random firework tube to disturb the vision and kicked the other’s abdomen in the process.
Cannibal Players naturally had an advantage in physical strength, and this particular player seemed to have a high rank too; after taking a kick, he nonchalantly clung to the elevator wall and quickly climbed to the top with his hands and feet, then wide opened his mouth at Xu Huo.
In Xu Huo’s field of vision, the red player’s mouth instantly widened like a ferocious beast, with sharp teeth and a long tongue, resembling a monster from a horror movie.
However, this hallucination vanished in a flash; Xu Huo took out his Water Cutter Gun and sprayed at the other’s mouth, but the opponent dodged with a blink, avoiding even a scratch and reappeared behind him!
Through the elevator’s mirror, Xu Huo could see his opponent pulling out a gun on him.
At such close range and within the confined space, it was difficult to dodge the continuous assault, and using a Rank-B prop here would clearly not be cost-effective.
Throwing the Desert Pinwheel on the ground, large quantities of sand instantly filled the narrow elevator. Xu Huo dodged the skewed bullet and carelessly attached the Non-Knotting Thread to the elevator door with a wall hook, quickly pulling several lines.
As the elevator reached the first floor and the door opened, he slipped out from beneath the ropes, but the red player who followed with the sand to the door conjured a Crimson Sword and cut the lines, knocking off a hook with a sneer and burst directly through.
All the threads on the door, along with the wall adhesive, were ripped down, causing him no damage. Yet, when the red player leaped out of the elevator, a line of blood appeared on his neck.
Behind him, a bloody metal thread hung in front of the elevator door, one end attached to the Omnipresent Strings, the other stuck with a "Do Not Disturb" sticker.
"Didn’t expect your armor to not protect your neck," Xu Huo said as he gathered his prop, addressing the red player who was attempting to turn around and look back at him.
A head fell to the ground, and blood gushed out.
"Ah!!!" A woman’s scream was heard not far away at that moment, and heavy footsteps ran swiftly in his direction. Xu Huo glanced over and saw two white-bracelet players in pursuit; the woman in front was clearly outmatched, with multiple wounds on her body. Seeing Xu Huo, she loudly called for help.
Levels one through three were located in the belly of the ship; these three levels were the heart of the ship’s operations and were also where the ship’s supplies were stored. There were many items here but few people. When a massacre erupted onboard, players who couldn’t save themselves either jumped ship or hid here to temporarily avoid the crisis. Unexpectedly, with more people, unrest arose, and even white-bracelet players began to turn on each other.
