Chapter 489: Carnival Night
Chapter 489: Chapter 489: Carnival Night
"Clang!" Moving Metal swiftly moved onto Xu Huo’s arm, blocking the incoming attack for him. He then drew out the Crimson Sword, but its Sword Qi was stopped by something resembling an airbag that popped out from the opponent’s belt.
Dodging two Blast Beads hurled at him, Xu Huo donned a Metal Protective Suit and his diamond gloves morphed into "No Burden Final Shot," half-palm gloves. From several meters away, he slashed a wound across the throat of the nobleman.
The lethality of "No Burden Final Shot" was quite limited; the slash was not fatal. The man, upon seeing his own blood, panicked and immediately tried to flee like Palad had. Xu Huo, however, did not give him the chance. Using "Two-Part Magic," the man watched helplessly as his lower body was severed away. In terror, he slumped to the side, and in the next second, his chest was pierced through!
The dying man looked at his chest in shock, but in the next instant, the sword was withdrawn and Xu Huo, already standing behind him, flicked the blood from the blade and pulled back the blanket covering the bed.
Although some of the blood had been cleaned off, the woman lying dead had half her breast and half her buttock cut away. Her once beautiful eyes, now devoid of life, were wide open, and bruises from being beaten covered her body.
After covering her again with the blanket, Xu Huo dragged the man, who hadn’t yet died, over to the bed. Forcing him to lie face down at the bedside, he nailed him to the bed with a fruit knife grabbed at random, forcing him to maintain a position of looking at the woman. He then straightened his clothes and calmly left the room.
On the other hand, Palad’s leap from the sixth floor didn’t attract much attention. He stabbed through the glass of the fifth-floor room and jumped in, then escaped to the hallway and took the nearest elevator, authorized by his bracelet, straight to the ninth floor.
"This person’s crazy, daring to lay hands on nobles!" Perhaps not quite in his right mind, Palad failed to recognize Xu Huo. Out of breath, he charged into the main hall on the ninth floor, bursting through the door and shouting, "Someone’s attacked a noble!"
In the main hall, around twenty people sat here and there in twos and threes. Dressed lavishly and poised elegantly, they just gave him a glance before Captain Matt continued with the previous topic, "Tonight’s banquet will be quite out of the ordinary. To add to the fun, I have specifically brought some players on board. Please be careful not to get hurt by the game during your hunt."
The others began to chuckle softly, and a Black Bracelet Noble commented, "I knew it; a banquet with the Captain involved is bound to be more thrilling."
"Players taste far better than ordinary people; I’m practically drooling," another said, with a Red Bracelet, sipping his drink to hide his eagerness.
"No need to rush though. We’ve got several days of travel ahead of us. It would be quite boring if we ended it all on the first day," said Captain Matt as he took out an alarm clock and pointed to the countdown on it. "The hunting time tonight is two hours. After two hours, this clock will start a musical countdown over the public channel. I hope everyone returns here when it ends."
"Two hours might be too short, don’t you think?" someone questioned, and it was none other than Madame Butterfly, disguised as Bai Kou. Waving her fan, she said, "It would be terribly dull if it was just about killing and cannibalizing. Only animals engage in such mechanical hunting and feeding. A hunt becomes truly thrilling when the prey panics and resists. Such a short time might kill the mood before it even arises."
In this setting, Duke Tal was just a minor guest. When Bai Kou unexpectedly spoke up, he was clearly nervous and dared not meet the eyes of the Cannibal Players that turned towards him.
However, Bai Kou smiled at those looking her way, "Isn’t that right?"
The rest of the players seemed to share her view, and after a moment, Captain Matt extended the time to three hours. He then addressed Bai Kou, "Madame Butterfly, your reputation precedes you. Though this isn’t the first time we’ve met, I wonder if you still remember me?"
"Not at all," Bai Kou said nonchalantly.
Captain Matt laughed heartily and pressed a button on the clock. The moving ship came to a halt, and two-thirds of the lights aboard were extinguished. The ninth floor, like most of the ship, plunged into darkness.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the night of revelry begins," Captain Matt said, making a gentlemanly gesture to the crowd. "Please enjoy yourselves to the fullest in the next three hours. I wish you all a delightful time."
The players in the main hall put down their wine glasses one by one and silently but happily made their way out.
Palad, who had been ignored the whole time, rushed up to Captain Matt and said, "Captain Matt, didn’t you hear me? Someone is killing the nobles."
With a kind expression, Captain Matt said to him, "Even hunters can be bitten to death by their prey."
Palad choked for a moment, then burst out in anger, "Why should those without status or standing dare to lay hands on nobles? They should just obediently wash their necks clean and wait for death!"
Looking a bit pitying, Captain Matt said, "Child, haven’t you yet grasped the true nature of this world? In the game, anyone can become the hunter, and anyone might become the prey. If you don’t want to be prey, then sharpen your weapons, and don’t smear the nobles’ reputation with such words."
His last sentence carried a warning. After saying it, Captain Matt did not entertain any further entanglement from him and took the elevator to the tenth floor.
Palad stood there for two seconds, angrily knocked over the wine bottles and glasses on the table, and then, in a fury, went downstairs.
When the elevator reached the seventh floor, he suddenly came to his senses and felt a bit of regret. He was just about to return to the ninth floor when the elevator stopped, and he anxiously watched the door. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Madame Butterfly with her Butterfly Mask standing outside. Just as he was about to speak, he felt a sharp pain in his throat.
He reflexively reached for it, and when he brought his hand back, it was covered in blood.
"You..." he struggled to lunge at Madame Butterfly but was kicked out of the elevator by her. She said with a smile, "Right now, you can’t speak, but you will probably have to wait a few minutes to die. Someone might come smelling the scent of fresh blood; isn’t that exciting?"
Palad ignored her, pouring Self-Healing Potion into his mouth while fleeing down the corridor.
Bai Kou didn’t bother with him, but Palad was indeed unlucky and happened to come across Xu Huo, who had come looking for him.
Xu Huo was now in a different outfit, sporting a Black Bracelet on his wrist.
He had changed his face, and Palad, not recognizing him, thought he was a noble ally and hurried to him for help. At that moment, footsteps approached at a steady pace from not far away, scaring the already somewhat irrational Palad into dragging him into the nearest room.
The person outside was a Cannibal Player who knocked on the door politely, "No use hiding, with such a strong scent of blood where can you hide."
Then a laugh issued forth.
Under Palad’s terrified gaze, Xu Huo opened the door and showed the person outside his Black Bracelet, "Rules must be followed, after all."
