Chapter 482 Sabotage
Chapter 482: Chapter 482 Sabotage
The Duchess had a strong dislike for Duke Tal and his entourage, but she was quite sympathetic to the children of lesser birth. She asked Xu Huo for some details about the charity.
Xu Huo answered all her questions one by one, and it was clear that she was satisfied.
A short while later, someone came in looking for the Duchess. She left, still seemingly interested in the conversation, and gave Xu Huo her business card before she went.
Xu Huo saw her out, saying, "I should be going back too."
The Duchess seemed to remember something unhappy, as her smile faded a bit. She added, "Young man, don’t learn to be bad."
Xu Huo smiled without saying a word.
The Duchess watched him for two seconds before turning to leave.
Only after watching her turn the corner of the corridor did Xu Huo’s smile fade away; he lit a cigarette and returned to the smoking room.
There was nobody in the room now.
The architecture of Zone 011 was ahead of its time. Most high-rise buildings were fully enclosed, with an advanced ventilation system that was both small and densely installed.
This measure effectively prevented unauthorized access to the buildings, but it also had a drawback. Facility maintenance, especially inside the air ducts, was inconvenient and usually required mini robots.
Autonomous mini robots capable of intricate operations were still cutting-edge technology in Zone 011. There were some in this area, but not in large numbers.
Xu Huo first used his own tester to check for alarms or surveillance in the room, then tested the ventilation opening with a Water Cutter Gun. After confirming that no alarm was triggered, he removed the decorative mesh on top.
The width of the ventilation outlet was just the width of two palms side by side, just enough for a remote-controlled car to enter.
Xu Huo placed a remote-controlled car equipped with the tester into the vent, driving it down the duct.
The interior was more spacious than the entrance, and the tremors from machinery operation were palpable, but there were no sensors installed on the ducts.
Xu Huo retrieved the car and attached a small bottle of "something that turns heads" next to the machinery.
Once the putrid smell began to spread, he put away the car and returned to the previous room.
The ventilation system accurately delivered the awful smell of the potion to every room. Duke Tal and his companions had already come out of their rooms, clamoring for the waitstaff to explain what was happening.
It wasn’t just one room that had a problem—now even the corridor was filled with the stench. Someone mentioned a "terror attack," causing Duke Tal and others to pale and depart hurriedly.
Meanwhile, the club had begun evacuating people, and the alarms went off. Nearby bomb-disposal robots gathered at the bottom of the building, and rescue personnel were on their way. The club’s investigation team was among the first to enter the building.
As people moved in and out of the building continuously, Xu Huo, who had already left, quickly moved away from the vicinity of the building. He found a surveillance blind spot, stepped into it, changed his face, pulled someone into the darkness, took off their coat to wear, and then left through another exit.
He returned to the club building, blending into the crowded ground floor.
Starting a fire in such a metal building was going to be difficult, but fortunately, there was electrical equipment in the club. However, there should already be players in those two spots, so he knocked out a maintenance worker on the way and, carrying the tools, went to the control room.
It wasn’t hard to find the control room; Xu Huo just had to ask any of the servers who hadn’t had the chance to leave yet. Because of the clothes he was wearing, he found his way to the control room unimpeded.
"What are you doing here?" There were player guards outside the control room.
"The manager sent me over to check if anything is wrong with the main control console, and to turn the alarm off while I’m at it..."
Before he could finish, a momentary dullness appeared in the eyes of the two players. Xu Huo knocked them out and entered the control room, easily locating where the players and Aliens were held.
Each control point also displayed the corresponding information.
He opened all the player cells, and a dozen seconds later, he released two Aliens.
Just as he was about to shut down the building’s operating facilities, he sensed someone behind him but didn’t turn around; he just went ahead and shut down the power supply.
The entire building plunged into darkness, but this was no problem for the players; the player standing behind him made a move, shouting as he threw a three-meter-long Sword, "Freeze and rejoice!"
With his traits and equipment combined, Xu Huo felt his feet were frozen to the ground, but he had already used the Crimson Sword to block one hand, and wearing the Diamond Gloves, he grabbed the Harmless Whip and toppled the opponent’s long Sword to the side, feinting towards the door as if to run while the two of them were misaligned!
The player thought he was going to run and threw an ice ball with a backhand, but Xu Huo was just feinting; his real target was the window.
"Crash!" The glass window shattered, and he jumped straight out, rapidly descending to the fifth floor before re-entering the building.
The player from the club wanted to follow him down, but unfortunately, he had no equipment to move through the air, so he had to open the control panel and notify the club to seal off the building first.
However, in just that short moment, Xu Huo had already reached the first floor. Not everyone had evacuated the first floor yet, and the Security Guard was calling in robots to intercept when another explosion occurred, and the sound of the elevator falling. As an Alien rushed out from the elevator, the panicked crowd pushed past the barriers and ran outside.
Screams and roars were unceasing. Xu Huo also saw a few injured people mixed into the crowd, probably players who had escaped.
"No one is allowed to leave!" At that moment, a hoverbike landed at the entrance, and the player in black clothes who had previously clashed with Xu Huo jumped down and declared, "No one is allowed to leave. The person who damaged the building is here!"
"Out of my way!" A well-dressed man pushed forward in a frustrated and agitated manner, "There’s an Alien inside! You can’t dissociate your club from this affair, and you still dare to stop people. Can you afford the responsibility?"
Most people who come to the club have status and reputation, and the players who came to block couldn’t really rough them up, so they had to first contain the Aliens and then open the exit, letting the crowd leave in small groups.
The player in black stood by, identifying people.
Xu Huo quickly reached the entrance. The player in black stretched out his hand to stop him, "Wait a minute!"
"What is it?" Xu Huo looked up, his expression displeased.
The player in black’s eyes, reflecting Xu Huo’s red suit, hesitated for a moment before he withdrew his hand and let him pass. Then, he turned his attention back to others.
Once he reached a safe position, Xu Huo looked back and realized that the player in black was still looking over uncertainly. He straightened his clothes and walked away expressionlessly.
When he got back to his car, there was someone in the driver’s seat. Bai Kou gestured for him to sit in the passenger’s seat.
Once the car lifted off, Bai Kou said, "I hadn’t expected you to be such a passionate youth, but those people aren’t going to get away."
