Chapter 474: Chapter 474 The Castle in Urgent Need of Repair
This move shocked Weiwei and the player with severed hand and injured leg seeing themselves jump off the train and sink into the icy lake, Weiwei quickly said, "Wait a minute, I didn’t intend to fight you..."
But Xu Huo clearly did not distinguish them from the player who jumped off the train, and started walking towards them, causing the color of Weiwei and the other person’s faces to change, and the next second they disappeared from the train.
"We’ve arrived so soon," Xu Huo said with an indiscernible expression, then turned his head to look at Dr. Deng.
Dr. Deng met his gaze, his body language exuding tension and fear, "Are you going to kill me?"
Xu Huo did not answer his question, but simply stared at him.
In just a few seconds, sweat beads appeared on Dr. Deng’s forehead, and it was then that Xu Huo finally spoke, "I gave you tickets because I thought you had value to me, but now I don’t think you’re worth it anymore."
The Crimson Sword appeared in his hand, and he added, "Now you can use your own item."
"Wait a minute!" Dr. Deng hastily retreated, leaning on the front of the car, said, "Don’t you want to know about Dr. Wu’s past? I can tell you everything."
"You’re full of lies." Xu Huo rested one hand on the Sword, seemingly testing its sharpness while he scrutinized Dr. Deng with assessment in his eyes, "Verifying what you say won’t be easy."
"You can find a lie detector item," Dr. Deng quickly said, "I can’t possibly deceive advanced equipment and items."
"I can easily deceive them," said Xu Huo indifferently.
Dr. Deng cast him a rapid glance, "You can do it, I can’t. Don’t believe me, you can test me immediately after we arrive, once we reach Zone 011 I can’t leave, you’ll see if you try."
Xu Huo gently moved the Sword forward, resting it on his shoulder, as if considering his proposal.
Dr. Deng tilted his head, his gaze flitting between the Sword’s edge and Xu Huo’s face, continued, "If you’re still not reassured, when we reach Zone 011 I can immediately seek employment at the government hall or at a potion company, which will suspend my player identity, and I won’t be able to leave Zone 011."
"Until the time is ripe for you to catch another ride and go somewhere else?" Xu Huo was unrelenting with his killing intent, "You prepared tools to kill the Kong Siblings in Deep Blue Laboratory, have you also prepared tools to deal with me now?"
"Even if I wanted to, I wouldn’t have the means," Dr. Deng paused, seemingly resolved, said, "I can tell you the truth, actually I resigned from a company under Hengxing Group in order to pursue the Perfect Evolution Potion."
"In the labs of Stellar Medical, I’ve seen too many people being used as test subjects, some were players who had just started showing side effects, some were just ordinary people, including the elderly, children, even pregnant women. For the sake of experiments, lab staff could violate staff rules to accelerate their degradation or induce labor in pregnant women to verify whether her unborn child would also be affected by the side effects, immerse children in a nutrient tank, and observe the full process of infants degrading until death..."
"Don’t play the sympathy card," Xu Huo interrupted him, "Did you really quit out of a clear conscience?"
"I was let go," Dr. Deng said after a two-second silence, "for lack of contribution."
"You’re seeking out Dr. Wu and the Perfect Potion to end the suffering of Evolvers?" Xu Huo said, "Then you should know about another thing."
"The Perfect Potion is only effective when used before the P1 Potion," Dr. Deng clearly knew more about the Perfect Potion than he had let on, "but this world is not only filled with those who have been taking the Evolution Potion for years, there are also newborn infants and many more worlds that have not yet entered the game, isn’t that a good thing for the benefit of future generations?"
"The goal is noble," Xu Huo said noncommittally.
Observing his expression, Dr. Deng waited a while before saying, "I want to end the game’s control over humanity."
Only then did Xu Huo put away his Sword, "After we arrive, find a place to settle down yourself, note down my communication device frequency, contact me if there’s anything."
Dr. Deng gasped for breath, "It seems you also despise the game."
Xu Huo scoffed, "Knowing that sooner or later we’ll end up the same as the Aliens, do you think any player would like this game?"
Dr. Deng fell silent.
The two arrived at the Zone 011 train station in silence. After getting off the train, Xu Huo, now in clean clothes, walked straight down from the carriage, not sparing Dr. Deng another glance before he left the station.
There were quite a few players loitering near the station, so the first thing Dr. Deng did after disembarking was to head to the bustling streets to look for employment among the many advertisements.
Xu Huo took an autonomous taxi to the Ancient City District and, after removing his disguise to reveal his true face, he returned to Rose Castle.
But he hadn’t expected that after just over ten days of absence, the once-majestic castle had become tattered and dilapidated, worse than it had been right after the instance ended. The front garden and the botanical garden at the back had almost been leveled to the ground, the Garden Maze had vanished, and it looked even more like a derelict building about to collapse.
"Sir, you’re back," Mr. Dong greeted him at the door, taking his umbrella and coat, "Hot tea will be ready in a moment."
"I’ll have something cold," Xu Huo glanced around the living room and dining room, noticing that most of the furniture had disappeared, and asked another question, "I don’t have to pay for the repairs, do I?"
"Mr. He Pu left some deposit," Mr. Dong replied.
That’s a relief.
Xu Huo looked up and saw Madame Butterfly descending the stairs, appearing as though she had just woken up, yawning as she said, "Give me a glass of milk."
Mr. Dong was quick to return, and Xu Huo got his iced tea as requested, but Madame Butterfly frowned and said, "I’ve told you several times, I want milk that has been boiled."
Mr. Dong was usually expressionless, and now he looked even more unfriendly as he stood behind Xu Huo, "Everything is to Mr. Xu’s taste."
The focus of the argument shifted successfully, and Madame Butterfly turned her gaze to Xu Huo.
Xu Huo had no interest in becoming involved in their personal matter and asked, "Why haven’t you left? Did you not get your hands on the weapons?"
Madame Butterfly was clearly upset, "What? Starting with a quarrel, are you?"
Xu Huo glanced at her, "I wouldn’t dare. I’m afraid you’ll demolish the castle in a fit of rage, and then I’d have nowhere to stay."
Madame Butterfly’s expression worsened, and she set down her cup and went back upstairs.
After washing up, Xu Huo went to the study where some documents were laid out on the desk, including an old-fashioned letter sealed with wax. He opened it to find it was an invitation from the Noble Club of Zone 011, inviting him to attend a gathering in five days.
"This invitation is from Duke Tal. If sir can establish good relations with the nobles at the gathering, inheriting the title of Baron will be smoother," Mr. Dong explained.
"Can’t it be solved simply with money?" Xu Huo asked.
"If sir wishes to deal with the government office, it’s best to go through this process," Mr. Dong simply stated.
