Chapter 472 Death and Opportunity
Chapter 472: Chapter 472 Death and Opportunity
It was unclear whether the train had malfunctioned due to the repeated attacks of the Alien or had intentionally slowed down, but Xu Huo, clad in a protective suit, felt that the current airflow was still bearable, thanks in part to the continuous blockade provided by the attacking Alien.
With "Mobile Metal" and "Damage Discount" protecting him, plus his use of the Crimson Sword for long-range assaults, he had only suffered minor injuries within the first five minutes of combat.
During that time, he noticed that some of the security personnel at the front had also sustained injuries, yet compared to being torn or dismembered by the Alien, they seemed to fear more the dark cyan curls forming at their wounds—not every Blood Alien would leave such poisonous injuries, only the larger ones with discolored claws.
If a wound started to turn dark cyan, the first reaction of the security staff was to cut away the flesh around the wound and then consume a potion while taking cover from their teammates.
In the face of the relentless onslaught of the Different Species Group, the fact that the security staff still prioritized these types of wounds demonstrated how virulent the dark cyan poison was.
Afterward, Xu Huo made a point of paying extra attention to those discolored-claw individuals in the Alien horde, preemptively snatching them away with a piano string whenever he spotted a Blood Alien approaching; with the Aliens’ diminished intelligence, they would not persistently chase a single target and, once pulled away by the string, they would quickly get caught up in the next wave of attacks.
The Aliens became more numerous, practically burying the entire train, and Xu Huo could not discern the situation of the battle up front at all. The Aliens had climbed all over the metal box he was in, and within his field of vision there was nothing but a mass of contorted heads and bodies, impossible to exterminate with just his sword.
So he threw out his stock of alcohol and the fabric spewed from the item-weaving machine, then set them ablaze.
The flames that burst forth extended the range of his attack, and it appeared that the Aliens were particularly fearful of fire. After two more waves of their assaults, a third of the Aliens had retreated.
But there were still a considerable number left. After the alcohol was used up, Xu Huo began to use up the fabric, but even that didn’t last long. Just then, a frosty wind blew from ahead, freezing many Aliens in place, and he seized the opportunity to pick up his sword and reap through them.
By then the number of Aliens had significantly reduced, and looking towards the front, he saw that a clearing had been made around the personnel guarding the coffin. Aside from the two players whose hands had merged with the coffin, all the others had been injured, and two of them were even missing arms.
"Space-Time Items can’t be used!" One of the players missing an arm angrily shot an approaching Alien dead and exclaimed, "It must be Lawrence Lee’s doing; his trait can restrict space-time items!"
However, the player carrying the coffin said, "He didn’t do anything; someone here has a super prop."
Space-time items are often incompatible with one another; within a certain range, if a high-grade space-time item appears, other lower-grade space-time items may fail or have significantly diminished effects. This was partly why the security team was in such a desperate state.
Facing the unbeatable tide of Aliens that were difficult to kill with raw strength and bare hands, a wide-range attack prop was very practical—like the player who used ice. Yet he could only seal them temporarily and couldn’t kill the Aliens outright. If it were possible to implement a spatial lockdown, the situation would have been much different.
"That’s still his doing!" The player missing an arm was not convinced.
Nevertheless, that player looked ahead and then behind.
After Weiwei blew up the carriage, there were only five players left from that car, and after the bloody battle that ensued, two more died. Now only three remained: Weiwei, her father, and another male player. Their situation was also dire; Weiwei’s father had lost a hand, the other player was missing a left arm, and his right arm and leg were chewed to the point where the bones were exposed, a terribly gruesome sight.
Among the three of them, Weiwei was in a slightly better condition, but she didn’t seem to have any strength to spare.
Then there was Xu Huo at the back, who, thanks to the metal box, only had to deal with the Alien directly in front of him. He suffered numerous minor injuries and was covered in blood, but the loss of his combat power wasn’t significant, and his body was free of dark blue wounds.
Additionally, there was Dr. Deng, who was somehow floated up into the sky like a kite, completely unaffected by the swarm of Aliens. This meant that in that situation, Xu Huo was also managing the ’kite string’, since so many Aliens were charging that even the Spatial Artifact might have been damaged.
A moment later, the player holding the coffin box extended a hand towards Xu Huo.
This player had once crushed an Alien on the roof of a train compartment from a distance, and "Seeing is Believing" definitely couldn’t negate such a powerful attribute. Realizing this, Xu Huo made the split-second decision to kick the metal box’s lid to the side. Unfortunately, he was still a step too late, and the next second, he felt his heart burst...
There was an extremely brief pause in consciousness, and when reason returned, Xu Huo saw that player about to turn back to look at him!
"Three Seconds of a Lifetime" took effect, and time in that space reversed to three seconds before his death!
So without waiting for that person to actually lay eyes on him, he forcefully kicked the metal box around, and when the entrance was diagonally facing outside the rails, he flipped over to the back...
Indeed, the player who couldn’t see anyone else still made a move, turning the box into a mass of scrap metal from a distance and flipping it off the train. Thus, between them, there were only jumping Aliens.
"Director Yuan!" the player with the severed arm suddenly called out to the one holding the coffin box.
Director Yuan, who had attacked Xu Huo, immediately grabbed at a female Blood Alien lunging towards him!
He wanted to use the same move he had before, but at that moment, a form of crystal composed of many small diamond shapes suddenly appeared in the air, looking like a rectangular patch of shattered air that grew out one piece after another, forming a wall tens of meters high between Director Yuan and his group and the female Blood Alien!
From the front, this crystal wall looked like multifaceted transparent crystals, but they reflected lights of different colors. With a change in viewing angle, these tiny lights seemed to be flowing.
Director Yuan failed to kill the female Blood Alien and commented while looking at the crystal formation, "Lawrence Lee’s attributes are indeed extraordinary. If someone hadn’t just used a Space-Time Item, I would have likely been unable to perceive changes in the air."
The female Blood Alien had long since run away, and Lawrence Lee, who had not shown himself, did not respond. The only reply came from the continuously growing crystal pieces that swiftly engulfed Director Yuan and his companions.
The female Blood Alien and Lawrence Lee’s sudden intervention gave Xu Huo a chance to breathe. Being on the outside, he couldn’t see the changes within the crystal pieces, but he managed to discern that the density of the small diamond shapes making up the Air Crystal had increased, as if something was being extracted from within.
The next second, the Air Crystal pieces then contracted back, but when Director Yuan and the others reappeared, they were pierced through by the diagonally fragmenting and lengthening crystal strips.
