Chapter 450 Non-Player’s Guide to Riding

Chapter 450: Chapter 450 Non-Player’s Guide to Riding

Like a fish that had taken the bait, Ghost Shadow struggled desperately on the strong adhesive paste. Xu Huo held onto the kite string and covered it with a raincoat. This time, however, Ghost Shadow stopped moving after a few twitches, like a lifeless sheet of paper, and in the next second, it turned into powder under the raincoat.

It was no surprise to Xu Huo that Ghost Shadow could escape in this manner; after all, it was also a prop with a physical body, moving in and out of rooms through doors and gaps. It was not impossible to catch it.

Higher-level players would surely have more handy props than he did; if Ghost Shadow had only the ability to wrap people up, it wouldn’t have survived in the laboratory until now.

Even though Ghost Shadow had turned into powder, Xu Huo didn’t let go. Instead, he packed the powder into the luggage compartment before walking out of the room.

"Did you find anything?" As soon as the door opened, Chu Yuan poked his head in and upon seeing the mess in the room, he couldn’t help but exclaim in surprise, "Have you worked with a demolition crew before?"

But Xu Huo took out a set of Deep Blue Laboratory construction plans. He had found them while searching the room; they included the blueprints for the outer expansion of the third basement level.

"What use is this thing?" Chu Yuan asked, puzzled. "The part that’s expanded outside is separated from the laboratory, and it’s all mechanized. No one can get through."

Xu Huo wasn’t sure if it would be useful; he needed to see for himself to know.

So, the two of them walked towards the end of the laboratory, where there was a corridor running lengthwise. According to the map, there should be a sea-bottom work tower built just one wall over.

The expansion wasn’t just an outer shell around the entire sea-bottom structure; it was an independent expansion of the third basement level, seemingly to construct separate storage cabins. The complete design showed that the added structures formed a circle resembling a beehive, but in reality, each hexagon of the hive was a horizontally placed small cabin, in large numbers.

Xu Huo arrived at the spot marked on the blueprint for a supposed connection passage, but unfortunately, while the plan was laid out, the door had not been opened, and the wall was sealed.

After checking two accessible passages and finding nothing, he put away the blueprint and asked Chu Yuan, "That cabinet of yours, can it still be used?"

"Yeah." Chu Yuan replied instinctively, but he added, "It can only hide one person at a time."

Xu Huo nodded to indicate he understood.

Chu Yuan looked anxious, as if afraid Xu Huo would snatch his prop.

Xu Huo paid no attention to his gaze, but took another turn around the nearby rooms before returning to where he had split from Dr. Deng and the others.

To his surprise, only Dr. Deng was still there. On seeing Xu Huo arrive, he promptly said, "The other three have gone to clean up the corpses again."

"Are they fools?" Chu Yuan scoffed. "Didn’t we say that even if you find some damned potion in a corpse, it can still be used? If it can’t be used, just replace it with a fake. Make up a couple of lies, and it will do. Why bother making an effort for no gratitude."

Dr. Deng found it a bit strange as well, "They seem really keen on finding potions."

"Obsessed." Chu Yuan said disdainfully.

Xu Huo was skeptical of what Wu Xiaonan and Qiu Xiangdong had said, and he added, "As long as they don’t move the bodies from the elevator."

None of the three planned to go and help; they sat down right there to rest.

Chu Yuan offered some food to Dr. Deng, but he shook his head and took out a tube of nutrition potion from his pocket.

"I brought this from another game district. The water and soil in Sayre Coast have undergone serious changes, and eating things produced here could lead to side effects."

Chu Yuan, who had already stuffed the biscuit into his mouth, paused for a moment upon hearing this but continued eating, "I’ve been eating this for days; one meal more won’t make a difference."

Dr. Deng took the opportunity to impart some expert knowledge, explaining, "You players are different from us ordinary people who simply took the Evolution Potion. You’ve gone through evolutionary reactions, that state when you see someone right before boarding the Initial Review Train and feel like eating them. Your genetics are different from ordinary people, allowing you to resist some natural mutations, radiation, and toxins. Even if you’re harmed, with the aid of potions, you can heal yourself or absorb the damage to evolve further."

"Ordinary people, who have only taken the Evolution Potion or injected the blood of an initial evolution player but did not experience an evolutionary reaction, find it hard to resist these harms. Therefore, they need to be careful when they are outside."

"How do non-players travel on the Dimensional Train?" Xu Huo inquired. "You don’t travel with the players, so how did the Beren Clan bring you here?"

"Non-players have their trains. They need to apply for specific permits from the Game Government. Those in the system, like players, cannot access this type of train, but those who have suspended their player status can." Dr. Deng said regretfully, "At that time, they were making conversation on the train, and I let my guard down and talked too much, and then I was taken to Sayre Coast. It’s been half a year already."

He looked quite sorrowful when he spoke of the end.

"Can non-players travel on a player’s train?" Xu Huo asked further. "If they have tickets."

"It’s possible, but they would need to apply with the Game Government to become a player...those without player qualifications cannot be automatically recruited by the system." Dr. Deng glanced at him and said, "Some people have used this method to leave their original game district. If handled properly, after getting off the train, they can apply to the Game Government of another district to suspend their player status and return to normal life. The time while a player status is suspended until it is reactivated is not counted in the time that triggers random instances."

"Once we leave this island, how do you plan to leave Sayre Coast?" Xu Huo said. "Given your condition, you can’t take the train for non-players anymore, can you?"

"Do you have player status?"

Dr. Deng sighed, "What can a Pharmacist like me, who’s weak and powerless, do?"

It sounded like being kidnapped and coerced was not a new experience for him.

"You sure have a strong fate, surviving up to now," Chu Yuan marveled.

After receiving some sympathy, Dr. Deng made a tentative suggestion, "So now, my only way to leave here is through a ticket. After leaving, I’ll think of how to suspend my player status. Unfortunately, I don’t have any tickets on me."

"Your idea is quite good, but I’m afraid that giving you a ticket, I’d have to act as your bodyguard too," Chu Yuan said. "Otherwise, how would you get through the night on the train?"

Dr. Deng adjusted his glasses and turned to Xu Huo, "You definitely won’t regret taking me with you."

Xu Huo had no intention of troubling Dr. Deng from the beginning, and of course, he had this in mind. The knowledge gap is difficult to bridge, and He Pu’s pharmacology research notes were hard for him to fully comprehend. Having a doctor who excelled in pharmacology would be a different story. Taking someone back would undoubtedly be beneficial.

However, he couldn’t give him the ticket right now.

"I’ll think about it," he feigned hesitation before adding, "But before that, you’ll need to prove your value."
