Chapter 447: Chapter 447: The Insider

Dr. Deng nodded, he thought the same, "So it’s best to search the pile of corpses now. The potion might be hidden here."

"Did you just say Professor Wu had a hobby of painting? Has anyone analyzed his paintings?"

To Xu Huo, the perspective in Professor Wu’s paintings was always unique, mostly from a lower angle, as if looking out of a window. There must be some special meaning in that.

"Psychologists have analyzed his work, suggesting he might have had a child who passed away prematurely," Dr. Deng explained.

Xu Huo nodded. That made sense, but the style of the paintings was too dark. Both inside and outside the windows depicted despair, certainly not the mental state of a normal father reminiscing about his child. He must have been putting himself in the child’s perspective, observing the surroundings from that of the child.

He wondered how much this had to do with the placement of the S-type Evolutionary Agent.

Either way, the priority was still to verify whether the potion was among the corpses or not.

Chu Yuan and Gan Qing returned not only with the seriously injured Wu Xiaonan but also with Qiu Xiangdong, who had vanished without a trace much earlier.

Wu Xiaonan was deathly pale, with a large bloodstain on both his chest and back. Judging by the tear in his clothing, it seemed to be a through-and-through wound. Normally, survival would be impossible.

"It was Qiu Xiangdong who gave me a hand," Wu Xiaonan said, propping himself up. "Miao Yu and the Kong siblings turned on you guys after you left. She suddenly attacked and injured me. She was the one who stabbed me with this sword. If Qiu Xiangdong hadn’t faked my death with a prop, I definitely would not have survived!"

Qiu Xiangdong, dressed in tropical print shirt and shorts, nodded slightly. "No big deal, I was hiding just for such situations."

"So you knew about the trick in the lab’s copy ahead of time?" Xu Huo asked.

"A bit," Qiu Xiangdong gestured. "After arriving on the island, I found it strange. There were always some rumors about the various copies starting from Sayre Coast, but not a whisper about Deep Blue Laboratory could be found, even in the black market. After I left, I was watched for a while."

"This place is completely under the Beren Clan’s control. If a copy can be sealed off this tightly, there must be a reason. The Beren Clan wouldn’t let outsiders enter their domain carelessly, so I guessed that among us there must be members of the Beren Clan. That’s why I hid in advance, mainly to protect myself."

"Who could have foreseen that the Beren Clan would be so heartless, insisting that no player should leave alive."

"My profession is a firefighter. I lent a hand when Wan Yunrong was captured by Kong Cheng, but I didn’t come out..." He then looked at Xu Huo, "You must have noticed."

Xu Huo nodded slightly. The position of the firefighter’s belt that flew out at that time wasn’t right and did not belong to any of the other players present then.

"After that, when you all started fighting, I realized something was off, so I took the opportunity to save Wu Xiaonan," Qiu Xiangdong candidly admitted. "Don’t blame me for not coming out to help; those two Kong siblings were just too fierce."

He said and looked at Chu Yuan, "That coffin prop of yours looks like it had a pretty high level, but it was split open by a single slash from him."

At the mention of this, Chu Yuan also felt a sense of loss. He had previously seen the wreckage of his prop, and anger surged on his face, "Luckily, we captured Dr. Deng, otherwise, we would have certainly died by their hands."

"Don’t be so optimistic," Qiu Xiangdong said. "If you were in their shoes, would you just let us go?"

No one present made a sound. They were only delaying the Kong siblings for a while, and it was hard to say how things would turn out as time passed.

Qiu Xiangdong looked around at everyone and continued, "There’s only half of the copy time left. I reckon they’ll wait at most until tonight, and we can’t really kill Dr. Deng."

Dr. Deng was only a valuable bargaining chip as long as he was alive; killing him would be a lose-lose situation. If the Kong siblings decided to be ruthless, they’d all be in a difficult predicament.

"Now the only way out is to find what they are looking for."

Xu Huo glanced at him, "Do you know what they are looking for?"

"Potion," Qiu Xiangdong said, "I overheard their conversation. Also, I searched everywhere in the laboratory. The only place where something could be hidden is the pile of corpses on the third basement floor; we have to go there to find it."

Dr. Deng couldn’t help but look at Xu Huo, who simply nodded, "This is also our only chance."

The group decided to act immediately and chose the nearest elevator to go down.

After stepping out, Chu Yuan said, "With so many bodies, how are we going to handle this? If the potion is hidden inside a corpse, are we supposed to cut them open to check?"

Dr. Deng showed a disgusted expression, "The potion has certain environmental storage requirements. Even if it’s sealed in multiple containers, it can’t be placed inside a corpse."

With a look of disbelief, Chu Yuan pointed at the pile of corpses, "Do you think there’s a difference?"

Dr. Deng was unsure.

"The only way to know the result is to search and see," Xu Huo turned to Qiu Xiangdong, "You’re a firefighter, do you have any way to deal with these corpses and mutant plants?"

"There is a way, but it requires multiple people to cooperate," Qiu Xiangdong said.

"Well, let’s hear how we can cooperate," Chu Yuan lifted his chin.

"Consolidation Bag," Qiu Xiangdong took out a black body bag and pointed at several rivets on it: "As long as different people stretch this bag, the corpses within its coverage will be automatically consolidated, and it can also eject all artificial traces inside the corpses, including jewelry and medical equipment."

"This is simple," Chu Yuan said as he reached out but was stopped by Xu Huo who asked, "Are there any side effects?"

Qiu Xiangdong did not lie and replied directly, "The workers will feel tired, but after working once, they can rest for ten minutes, and they will recover after ten minutes."

"Shall we try it then?" Wu Xiaonan said, "It’s not feasible to check one by one."

Out of caution, Gan Qing said, "We can cooperate, but you need to go first."

Qiu Xiangdong didn’t hesitate and opened the Consolidation Bag, "We need one more person."

"I’ll do it," Wu Xiaonan said, "You just saved my life; I trust you."

Qiu Xiangdong and Wu Xiaonan each took hold of a rivet and stretched the bag open, its mouth facing downwards. The bag, like a black hole, spontaneously sucked in the corpses. Then the items worn on the corpses began to fall off. Once done, the bag would spit out the cleaned-up corpses and quickly draw in the next one.

The entire process took only a few seconds, so within three minutes, Qiu Xiangdong and Wu Xiaonan had cleared a small mountain of bodies.

Moving the corpses inevitably caused dust to rise, so the group put on protective masks. Seeing that Qiu Xiangdong and Wu Xiaonan did not show any significant changes, Gan Qing and Chu Yuan also came over to help.

"Dr. Deng doesn’t need to," Xu Huo grabbed the edge of the Consolidation Bag and signaled for Dr. Deng to stand behind him, "We are players, with better stamina."

Qiu Xiangdong nodded, and after exerting some force, the Consolidation Bag expanded a bit, "The more people there are, the larger the bag’s space will be, and the greater the workload."

So, the group stepped back, and the Consolidation Bag functioned like a high-speed machine, rapidly ingesting and expelling the decaying corpses.
