Chapter 446: Chapter 446 Dr. Deng’s Clue
"You," Xu Huo pointed at Tong Jian. "Try walking out the door."
"If you aren’t a ticket player, once the instance is closed, you can’t leave either," Kong Cheng said.
"Seeing is believing," Xu Huo simply didn’t believe him and insisted that Tong Jian do as he said.
Tong Jian looked at Kong Cheng and, after getting a nod, he walked toward the door. Just like the ticket players, he was stopped by an invisible barrier, and hitting the glass and walls next to him was ineffective.
"Are you satisfied now?" Tong Jian turned around and asked.
Xu Huo then motioned for the Kong siblings to move away from the elevator, and with Dr. Deng as his hostage, he headed toward the elevator.
While they walked, Dr. Deng, sweating, said, "Be careful, don’t cut me..."
"Shut up!" Xu Huo yanked him, dragged him into the elevator, and said to the Kong siblings, "You stay here. If I find the elevator running, you know the consequences."
After he finished speaking, he signaled Gan Qing and Chu Yuan to follow him.
The four of them took the elevator back down to the first underground level. Upon arriving, Xu Huo let go of Dr. Deng and ordered Chu Yuan and the other man to move tables and chairs to block the elevator door, keeping the elevator on this level.
After the elevator alarm sounded for thirty seconds, it went quiet. Chu Yuan, looking puzzled, said, "Why come down here? Isn’t it better to stay up there and make them come down? There is also a time bomb, ’Ghost Shadow,’ in the lab."
"You’re not thinking of competing with them for the potion, are you?" speculated Gan Qing.
"We might as well look for Wu Xiaonan and Qiu Xiangdong instead of wasting our time on that." Xu Huo said, "Let’s see if they’re still alive."
The two were somewhat confused; Xu Huo didn’t even care whether Miao Yu was dead or alive, so why did he care so much about Wu Xiaonan and Qiu Xiangdong? To be honest, the fact that the Kong siblings had gone upstairs meant that Wu Xiaonan was most likely dead, while there was a good chance that Qiu Xiangdong was still alive, but he had been laying low and might not show up now.
"Qiu Xiangdong has already shown up," Xu Huo said. "Go find them, dead or alive, we need some certainty."
Hearing him say this, Chu Yuan and Gan Qing had no choice but to go search for people.
After they left, Xu Huo took out the Silent Figurine and, looking at Dr. Deng, who was squatting on the ground, holding his head and shivering, said, "Stop pretending, no one can hear us talk."
Dr. Deng lifted his head to look at him. "What did you say?"
"The samples you used to disguise your identity are too fake, and you hinted that the Kong siblings and others are not here to play the instance but obviously have other motives."
"The last time I fought with Kong Hui in the west-side lab, you wanted to run, hinting that the ticket players simply wanted us to fight each other."
"You also have props on you, but when I took you as a hostage, you didn’t use them. You wanted to get rid of the Kong siblings as well."
Dr. Deng seemed to snap out of his shock, calming down a bit and forcing a smile. "You’re quite smart," he said.
"Thanks for the compliment, but let’s skip the pleasantries," said Xu Huo. "What is the potion that the Beren Clan wants you to find?"
Dr. Deng gave him a strange look, "Don’t you already know? The S-Version Evolutionary Elixir."
After a pause, he added, "Are you not aware of what the S-Version Drug is used for?"
"Is the S-Version Drug you’re talking about the same one I’m referring to?" Xu Huo expressed his doubt.
Dr. Deng smiled instead, speaking as if telling a riddle, "It’s exactly what you think it is."
Xu Huo pointed to the messy corridor behind him, "Do you think that the S-Version Drug is still hidden in the laboratory at this point?"
Dr. Deng nodded affirmatively, "Otherwise, why would the Beren Clan dispatch wave after wave of players and experts? Many people have died before me. I wouldn’t have come here if I had any other choice."
"Did you find the S-Version Drug?" Xu Huo scrutinized him, doubting that he could have hidden the drug under the surveillance of the Kong Siblings and the others.
"I didn’t find it; what I did just now was merely a temporary measure," Dr. Deng said.
"But you do have a clue," Xu Huo continued, "Otherwise, you would die after the instance ends just like the rest of us, unless, of course, you have a way to leave Sayre Coast?"
After saying this, he added, "I advise you to tell the truth; I’m not very patient."
Dr. Deng hesitated before responding, "Since you know about the S-Version Drug, you should also know that it’s useless for players who have used the Evolution Potion multiple times..."
"But it has value," Xu Huo said. "Perhaps the Kong Siblings have already found a way to contact the Beren Clan. By the time the instance ends, a large number of players will surround this laboratory. You might want to think about that."
"It’s just my speculation; it won’t necessarily lead to finding the drug." Dr. Deng’s gaze flickered with distrust towards Xu Huo, even though he had purposefully switched to a chainsaw when fighting with Kong Hui instead of the Crimson Sword.
Xu Huo held his gaze for two seconds before speaking, "Are you worried that I’ll hand the drug over to the Beren Clan?"
For Dr. Deng, neither the Beren Clan nor the ticket players were trustworthy, but still, he chose the ticket players’ side despite knowing he was at a disadvantage, which showed his urgent desire to break away from the Beren Clan.
Dr. Deng remained silent.
Xu Huo went on to say, "You don’t have to worry about me passing the drug to someone with ill intentions; at least here, it will definitely be used in the right place."
Professor Wu, Dr. Wu, he suspected that it was Dr. Wu who had intentionally placed the S-Version Drug in the laboratory for a clear purpose: it was naturally more suitable for a player who was beginning the perfect evolutionary process.
Although Dr. Deng did not trust him, he was somewhat comforted by the verbal assurance.
"Kong Cheng probably won’t stay put up there," he said with concern.
"The longer we can delay, the better," Xu Huo signaled for him to reveal the possible location of the S-Version Drug.
At the mention of this, Dr. Deng perked up a bit, "I’ve researched Professor Wu; his greatest hobbies within the laboratory, besides painting, are tinkering with androids."
"You’ve also seen those destroyed androids in the laboratory; those were all ransacked by the Beren Clan. None were spared, whether utilitarian or recreational androids. To put it bluntly, even the wallpaper and floor tiles were scanned thoroughly. Under such circumstances, the only possibilities if the drug hasn’t been found are two."
"One possibility is that the drug is not stored in the form of syringes, which is why they have brought in potion experts."
"The second is that they haven’t looked in the right place."
Xu Huo pondered briefly before suggesting, "The only area in the entire laboratory that hasn’t been searched is the pile of corpses on the third sub-level."
Dr. Deng shook his head, "The corpse piles have been searched as well, more than once. The mutant plants you see now have grown subsequently, and the bodies have been digested, with new ones piling on top of the old."
"Before, the Beren Clan speculated that this laboratory instance area has a self-cleaning function, which is why the corpses are periodically transported to the third floor for the plants."
"But now it seems more apparent that it’s not the laboratory using the corpses to nourish the plants, but Ghost Shadow. There’s a time interval, and since Ghost Shadow is mobile, it could easily move the drug to hide it." Xu Huo concluded the conversation.
