Chapter 437: Chapter 437 Restarting the Scene
Xu Huo didn’t provide the other players with a detailed combat plan, just allocating rough positions, and allowing the players to improvise once in position.
"Wait, you’re not going to screw us over, are you?" Wu Xiaonan said, "Since the Beren Clan has got so many players to come in and kill, it wouldn’t be hard to find one or two with tickets. How can you prove you’re not a hitman for the Beren Clan?"
"Xu Zhi couldn’t possibly be," Chu Yuan said. "Didn’t you hear the explosion just now? At least two players over there almost died at our hands. If he had been bought by the Beren Clan, I wouldn’t be alive now."
Wu Xiaonan’s eyes shifted as she sized him up, "That’s true. The Beren Clan certainly wouldn’t buy you off to blend in with the ticket players."
Chu Yuan’s face tightened, "Do you know what happens to people who talk too much?"
Wu Xiaonan snorted with laughter.
Chu Yuan’s face turned red with anger, but it was Gan Qing who interrupted them, "Let’s hurry and find a place to ambush."
"We don’t need to look for Wan Yunrong and Ge Pan anymore? The more people we have, the better," Miao Yu said.
"We don’t have time. Missing two is missing two," Xu Huo paused and then added, "The Kong Siblings will surely search the entire lab. If they run into trouble because they’re alone, it’s just their bad luck."
Meeting by chance, if not for the need to confront a common risk, there would be no reason for the players to gather, nor would they go out of their way to find two isolated players.
However, no sooner had he finished speaking than Wan Yunrong silently emerged from a corner.
Xu Huo turned around unsurprised; he had noticed her presence long ago and said, "Now the game of human versus ghost is secondary; you can rest assured in cooperating with us."
Wan Yunrong had been not far from where Wu Xiaonan and Xu Huo’s group met up, eavesdropping on their conversation with a prop before deciding to come out. Compared to the predictable player slaughter, the Kong Siblings posed a greater danger.
"I heard everything you guys said, and I’m willing to cooperate," Wan Yunrong said. "But there must be an agreement that the game doesn’t continue until our cooperation is over. I believe there must be other players among us who have become ghosts. Since no one knows if they’re the ghost or when they might turn, it’s best to stick to this agreement."
"If you agree, I can open the elevator doors."
"You can open it?" Gan Qing asked, surprised.
"This type of resin can be washed off with a special potion," Wan Yunrong nodded.
Just as everyone was eager to have her start opening the door, Xu Huo suddenly heard a faint "click" sound made by a person. He was about to turn around when Wan Yunrong, who was standing by his side, suddenly leaped backward, looking at them with doubt and suspicion.
"You guys didn’t block this door, did you!" Wu Xiaonan said with a cold sneer.
Xu Huo abruptly looked up at her.
"How could we!" Chu Yuan, as if meeting people for the first time, began to repeat what he had said when he first met Wu Xiaonan. The wording wasn’t exactly the same, but the meaning was.
And Miao Yu and the others didn’t seem to notice anything wrong either, as if hearing this conversation for the first time, they chimed in with supplemental comments.
However, this time the difference was that Wan Yunrong joined the conversation, although the direction of the discussion was largely the same.
The same words, the same scene eerily replayed, as if time had reversed... No, it was not a reversal of time. If it were only a reversal of time, Wan Yunrong, who appeared before the conversation started, shouldn’t be here.
Someone had tampered with something.
Xu Huo cooperated with the others while keeping an eye on his surroundings.
If Dr. Deng’s group were approaching, he’d be sure to notice. Were they holding back because they were not confident?
There was someone moving within his sensory range. Xu Huo immediately called out in a moderate tone toward that direction, "Ge Pan!"
The moving person stopped, then started moving again.
"Do you think Ge Pan could be the ghost?" Xu Huo purposely paused before asking.
As expected, the other party stopped again.
"Why bring him up? Are you looking for him?" Wu Xiaonan looked at him oddly.
"I just feel it would be better to find him if he’s the only one left, but if we can’t..." Xu Huo sensed the person moving away and quickly said to Wan Yunrong, "Take out your potion and wash off this resin."
While Wan Yunrong was surprised, she heard him immediately add, "I’ll tell you how I knew after we go downstairs. Let’s go now!"
In the second round of conversation, they only discussed cooperation. Because of the change in Wan Yunrong’s appearance, Xu Huo didn’t have the chance to talk about the personnel arrangement.
Despite this, Wan Yunrong followed through. She poured the potion on the elevator doors, and the resin began to melt and trickle down like water.
The elevator doors were opened, and the group of people went inside, quickly descending to the third basement level and passing through the corridor where bodies were placed, returning to the eastern half of the laboratory.
"Just hide behind the bodies," Xu Huo said.
"You haven’t explained what’s going on." While Wu Xiaonan had some memory lapse, it was more apparent for Wan Yunrong. Given her previous issues with Xu Huo, she would never approach these players without any caution.
But just then, she didn’t know what happened, she just looked up and saw Gan Qing and the others.
"Much of what we just said at the elevator door had been said a few minutes ago," Xu Huo said. "It was you who mentioned that the resin could be dissolved with a potion."
"Impossible!" Wan Yunrong was incredulous.
"Otherwise how would I know?" Xu Huo countered.
"Wait a second," Chu Yuan was a bit confused, "Are you saying all of our memories have a problem? Why don’t I feel anything off."
Xu Huo was silent for two seconds, "Maybe because you are not sensitive enough."
Chu Yuan scowled, "Talking in riddles to insult people, huh?"
"Actually, I also felt something was off," Wu Xiaonan said. "But how can you prove what you’re saying is the truth? Maybe it’s you who tampered with us. Otherwise, how do you explain everyone else’s memory being affected while yours wasn’t?"
"I’m immune to certain properties and props," Xu Huo casually offered an excuse, then added, "But the opponent must have heard our plan for dealing with the Kong Siblings."
"What!" Gan Qing exclaimed in shock, "We still have to go up against two Rank-B players?"
"Wu Xiaonan alone can stall one Rank-B player," Xu Huo passed the subject to her.
"That’s indeed true," Wu Xiaonan touched her hair and took out her phone from her pocket, pressing play on a recording. It was the recording of her initial encounter with Xu Huo and the others; there was no Wan Yunrong during that part.
Then came a brief burst of noise, followed by the sound of Wan Yunrong making her entrance and Wu Xiaonan repeating her own words.
"Damn, it’s actually true!" Chu Yuan exclaimed.
Miao Yu patted his shoulder to move him aside, "Since someone overheard our conversation, Dr. Deng and his group might be waiting for us right now. We can’t use the previous ambush plan anymore."
"We also need to be wary of one player who can cause short-term memory loss."
