Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!
Chapter 430: Is Professor Wu Dr. Wu?

Chapter 430: Chapter 430: Is Professor Wu Dr. Wu?

The eight players opposite clearly were not to be trifled with, and even with the Ghost Shadow Player among them, it wouldn’t be easy to single anyone out.

"You’re not here to do the copy task?" Xu Huo asked Dr. Deng.

"The people I’ve brought aren’t here to do the copy," Dr. Deng emphasized, gesturing towards the players beside him as he introduced their identities, "These are the Kong Siblings, Kong Cheng and Kong Hui, both Rank-B players."

Dr. Deng’s words successfully diverted everyone else’s attention. Rank-B players entering a Level D Copy?

Players have two opportunities per year to enter Low-Level Copies, on the condition that they do not disrupt the copy or game rules, otherwise, they are likely to be punished by the game—but that doesn’t mean they can’t kill.

The players stepped back to distance themselves from these individuals; with the Kong Siblings being Rank-B players, it was unlikely there would be any Rank-E among the rest.

"Don’t worry, we didn’t use tickets to come in, we won’t be participating in the copy," said Kong Cheng, wearing a Duck Tongue Cap.

"But once the copy starts, it should be sealed off from the outside, how did you get in?" Wu Xiaonan asked. "And can you enter the copy site without a ticket?"

"Strictly speaking, as long as the number of players with the required tickets for the copy is met, the copy will start, regardless of how many players are inside the copy site." Kong Hui flicked her knee-length braid, "But each copy may have its own set of rules; anyway, we made it in like this."

"We won’t interfere with your copy task, but please don’t interfere with Dr. Deng’s work."

Wu Xiaonan smiled and stepped back as well.

Kong Cheng also raised his hand, signaling the people behind him to put away the clearly visible items they were carrying.

"So we’re keeping to our own paths?" Ge Pan spoke up.

Kong Cheng made an inviting gesture, symbolically stepping aside.

"Right, Dr. Deng, have you encountered other players since you came in?" Xu Huo asked as he passed by them.

Just as Dr. Deng was about to speak, Kong Hui interrupted, "No, there are no dangers on the upper two levels."

"Thank you," Xu Huo said politely, but his eyes slightly darkened as he turned away.

Kong Hui’s words weren’t entirely true. While different copies do have different rules, once this copy started, ticket-holding players could not enter or leave, which, by the same logic, should also apply to themselves as players. The most direct reason being that the copy had been open for three days, and even if they had entered today, their rest period that night should have been on the first floor, not underground.

Thus, they most likely entered before the copy started and deliberately used a different entrance to avoid ticket-holding players, and they probably also knew that the laboratory was divided.

The Beren Clan employed Dr. Deng and these players, and they had knowledge of the laboratory. Yet, on Sayre Coast, there was neither a guide copy of Deep Blue Laboratory nor more information available. Instead, there were rampant rumors about ghosts, clearly a deliberate move.

The Beren Clan did not want other players entering the Deep Blue Laboratory, yet they sent people to explore deeply. Those who entered with Dr. Deng might not be exclusively non-copy players as they had explained.

The laboratory on the eastern side was torn down wherever possible; the Beren Clan’s people might have visited more than once.

They were here to search for something.

Could Professor Wu mentioned in the copy background be the Dr. Wu mentioned in Master Niese’s notes from Fenbei Town?

"Should we keep going up?" At the elevator door, Wan Yunrong took out a wind chime, and as she spoke, it swayed, though no bells could be heard.

"This bell sound can cover our voices," she said. "Kong Hui claims that there’s no danger above, which is very likely a deception. If there’s no danger, why would they come down here?"

"Not necessarily. Those two siblings are Rank-B players. If they considered the players pretending to be ghosts dangerous, wouldn’t we have already died in the Copy?" Ge Pan argued.

"Ghost Shadow is created by players outside of the Copy... This is just our speculation and may not be the truth," Miao Yu said, with his arms crossed. "It’s possible there are no other players, just a special item born within this Copy."

Miao Yu’s guess was also within what everyone else was speculating, but the Ghost Shadow was too agile, even seemingly inciting them to turn on each other. Normally, an item wouldn’t be so human-like, which is why they were more inclined to believe there were other participants in the Copy.

Ge Pan gave Miao Yu a deep look, "It’s a bit far-fetched to think it’s an item. This is a deserted island, but there’s definitely a boss in the Copy. Do a few more copies, and you’ll realize that the way a Copy’s boss exists can vary greatly. Some will interact with players, others won’t show themselves, and in some copies, you might not even know where or who the boss is from start to end."

Miao Yu didn’t argue, but simply said, "Then let’s go up."

Ge Pan was the first to enter the elevator and said to everyone, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I’m definitely going to catch Ghost Shadow."

Mao Wei hesitated for a moment before following, with Gan Qing and Wan Yunrong after him.

Miao Yu and Wu Xiaonan didn’t move, while Xu Huo held back Chu Yuan who wanted to go forward, "If we really encounter danger, the two of us are done for. Let’s wait and see."

That meant letting the other players take the lead in exploring.

After Ge Pan and his group left, Wu Xiaonan glanced at them, "Two perfectly healthy big men are less courageous than a girl like Wan Yunrong."

"What’s the use of brute courage? We are combining courage with strategy," Chu Yuan retorted. "If you’re so capable, you go ahead."

"Of course, I will," Wu Xiaonan picked another elevator and went in alone.

Miao Yu, on the other hand, showed little interest in catching Ghost Shadow to clear the level and instead went to talk to Dr. Deng.

"We’re not really going?" Chu Yuan whispered.

"Who said we’re not going? Isn’t it good to have someone else trudging through the minefield ahead of us?" Xu Huo said with a smile, gesturing toward the third elevator.

No one, except for Dr. Deng, turned back at his words, not even sparing him a glance.

Xu Huo laughed and stepped into the elevator.

When the elevator reached the second sub-level, Chu Yuan went in first, shining his light around. Just like the floor below, and completely different from the laboratory in the eastern half, this area seemed more like an office area. The walls were adorned with numerous certificates of honor, award photos, and some brightly styled but poorly executed oil paintings.

"These are Professor Wu’s paintings," Chu Yuan shone the light at the corner of a painting and sighed, "That’s why they say God is fair. Stick to scientific research if that’s what you’re good at. Why bother with painting? If the painting were good, how would ordinary people like me survive?"

Xu Huo remained noncommittal, "You sure take things lightly."

"Nothing’s really good about me except that I’m open-minded," said Chu Yuan with a laugh, and reached out to pat Xu Huo on the shoulder, but instead, Xu Huo caught his arm and swung him towards the wall.

"What are you doing!" Chu Yuan exclaimed in surprise. "Let’s talk this out, no need to turn on each other!"

Xu Huo reached over, took the light from his hand, and shone it towards the corridor floor. The originally beige floor was covered with a spreading dark mud, bubbling as it oozed over.
