Chapter 418 Devil’s Island
Chapter 418: Chapter 418 Devil’s Island
The woman in the black swimsuit smiled slightly, "How could there be people trading guns on Sayre Coast, and besides, under normal circumstances, firearms are not allowed in instances, so even if you bought one, it would be useless."
"Just asking," Xu Huo replied casually and then gathered his things into the luggage compartment and left the shop.
"How come you didn’t buy any ore detection tools?" On the way to Iris Hotel, Chu Yuan said, "If the ranking of the instance completion isn’t high, you won’t get much money, and since you’re here, you might as well sell some ores."
"Don’t you have them?" Xu Huo said, "Anyway, we have to stick together for four days; helping each other out is only right."
Not to mention whether there are even ores in the instance for players to pick up, and even if there are, after many runs, there wouldn’t be many good things left in the area, just like the naturally occurring instance props, first come, first served.
"I’m not stingy. I can share the ores with you, but don’t hold me back at a critical moment," Chu Yuan sized him up, "You look very ordinary but spend quite generously; your family must be wealthy."
"I didn’t willingly trap you with the prop; I have to take risks too, so let’s agree before entering the instance, no infighting, either of us dying doesn’t benefit the other."
Xu Huo nodded in agreement, "Since we’re already tied together, why don’t we cooperate? Do you have any other companions?"
"Lone wolf!" Chu Yuan boasted proudly, "Ever since entering the game, I’ve relied on my own abilities, with close shaves but always safe. You’ll be in good hands following me!"
Xu Huo glanced behind him at the restaurant, where the players had started fighting, one of them flying out the door without a sound, shattering the glass!
"Watch out!" He quickly stepped aside and yanked at the rope, pulling Chu Yuan.
Chu Yuan stood right in front of the store door, the player flying out narrowly missing him as his sleeve was slit by the player’s dagger.
"My prop jacket!" Chu Yuan shouted, rushing forward, picked up the man, and aimed a punch at his face, but the elastic-lacking rope on the other end tied to Xu Huo, who didn’t move limited his range of movement, so the punch barely touched the other person’s face.
Seeing his movements hindered, the player who flew out retaliated with a slap, but it had no effect on Chu Yuan; instead, the player screamed and retreated, clutching his hand.
Chu Yuan felt the spiky mask on his face, "You’re not the first who’s tried to hit my face, come on if you dare!"
The player with the dagger, his hand bloody, glared at Chu Yuan before quickly turning to vanish into the crowd.
"Coward!" The tall female player who had thrown the player with the dagger outside came out, confidently lifting her chin at Chu Yuan, "That’s an interesting prop you got there. Let me introduce myself; my name’s Miao Yu."
"Chu Yuan," he gave his name and then asked, "Did that guy offend you just now?"
"Idiot just wanted to take advantage of the waitress," Miao Yu said, "I taught him a lesson."
The two hit it off and soon found out that they were both staying at Iris Hotel, so they decided to go back together.
"What’s this about?" Miao Yu pointed at Xu Huo.
"He’s my little bro." Chu Yuan patted Xu Huo’s shoulder, directly downgrading his status from a collaborator to an underling, "We accidentally got caught by a prop together."
"Do you know of any way to neutralize a prop?" Xu Huo took the opportunity to interject.
Stroking his chin, Miao Yu pondered for a moment, "Probably not, I’ve only heard about space-time related props counteracting each other and becoming ineffective. As for ordinary props, I’ve never heard of such a thing, but you can try to destroy the prop. It wouldn’t be easy to damage one or two high-level props, though."
Xu Huo had already tried the Crimson Sword and a pocket-sized cutter he carried with him from Zone 011 on the train.
"Can fire sever it?"
Chu Yuan sighed, "It can’t be burned through."
"Try mine." Miao Yu pulled out a crescent-like curved knife and attempted to cut the rope, then after a moment, he said, "Not a mark left, huh? Your prop isn’t bad, even Rank-B props can do nothing against it."
Chu Yuan’s facial muscles twitched, "A pity it’s not too practical a prop."
"Don’t say that." Miao Yu said, "It’s not bad for creating traps, but since you guys are entering the instance tomorrow, you definitely won’t be able to use it this time."
"That’s fine." Xu Huo patted Chu Yuan’s shoulder, "We’re going into the same instance."
"Right, right." Chu Yuan nodded repeatedly.
After arriving at the hotel, the three of them went their separate ways, and after a night’s rest, they took a speedboat to the Deep Blue Laboratory early the next morning.
There were several dozen people on the same boat, these individuals disembarking at different locations, with the Deep Blue Laboratory being one of the more distant destinations.
"The Deep Blue Laboratory is an abandoned experimental site located in the heart of Deep Blue Island. The terrain of the island is complex, home to many poisonous animals, hence the laboratory was abandoned and left to ruin. Usually, no tourists come here, only players would set foot on the island."
The crew provided them with information about the Deep Blue Laboratory and even took out a map, "This is a map of the island that was taken out by the staff before it was deserted. However, after so many years, it might not be accurate."
The players heading to the Deep Blue Laboratory quickly took photos of the map, and a man pushed past Chu Yuan and Xu Huo to the front, loudly asking, "I’ve heard that Deep Blue Island is also called Devil’s Island, is that true?"
This man was the one who had a conflict with Chu Yuan the day before, named Peace Chunsheng, and coincidentally, he, Miao Yu, and Xu Huo were all heading to the Deep Blue Laboratory.
"That’s correct, the island was originally called Deep Blue Island because the plants on the island excrete a unique pigment that dyes the surrounding sea a saturated deep blue, hence the name Deep Blue Island," the crew member explained.
"However, after the abandonment of the Deep Blue Laboratory, some ships passing by during thunderstorms would see skull shapes appearing in the thunderclouds and hear strange roars from the island." A middle-aged man known as "Dr. Deng" volunteered to explain, "The reason for the skull clouds is because the fissures on the island happen to form a shape similar to a skull. Strong winds blowing upward from the crevices shape the clouds into a skull."
He seemed to be quite knowledgeable about Deep Blue Island, "As for the roars, some are the wind, and some are made by the animals on the island. They just sound somewhat frightening. More concerning than these sounds should be the island’s wildlife, which carry bacteria and toxins that can be dangerous even for Evolvers."
"Aside from the clouds and sounds, everything else is just rumors," he added.
"What rumors?" Chu Yuan glanced around at the people nearby, then asked Xu Huo in a hushed voice.
"Didn’t you look up the news online yesterday?" Xu Huo glanced at him, "There are rumors that Deep Blue Island is haunted."
