Chapter 416: The Hospitable Coast
Chapter 416: Chapter 416: The Hospitable Coast
Through their conversation, Xu Huo came to know about the abundant mineral resources around Sayre Coast, especially in some areas that were normally closed off and only accessible to players.
The Beren Clan controlled the coast, and to ensure they could purchase enough ore, they transported a large number of players to the coast every year.
Therefore, from the moment they boarded the train, they ensured that players could smoothly reach the Sayre Coast by implementing an identity verification process for those getting on board—this verification seemed to be linked to specific traits, and if the Beren Clan decided not to offer hospitality services to a certain player on the train, then even if that player changed their appearance after disembarking, they couldn’t escape the "service denied" label.
Once "denied service," players couldn’t board the ships operated by the Beren Clan to travel to the instance locations unless the player had their own boat and knew the route.
Perhaps there were such players, but they were certainly in the minority.
Moreover, players heading to Sayre Coast could register their destination instance at any store owned by the Beren Clan, who would then transport groups of people together, allowing them to enjoy accommodation and food at very low prices while waiting.
Of course, there were conditions for this: the players had to bring out precious ore from the instances and sell at least one third of it to the Beren Clan.
Actually, many players who came for the first time returned for the second time mainly to make money from selling the ore, as the prices offered by the Beren Clan were tempting, and most players would sell the majority of their ore to them since it was less difficult and risky than earning money in other instances.
"If you ask me, the Beren Clan are just dumb, they could simply hire people to mine for them," Chu Yuan rambled on, "They have ships and people, why worry about not having enough miners?"
"How do you know they haven’t gone?" the girl with the tongue piercing said, "Once on the island, there are plenty of people who want to buy your tickets; with such a good opportunity, why give it away to others?"
"Even the Beren Clan can’t hold all the tickets in their hand," the violet-haired woman sitting next to the girl with the tongue piercing said, "Besides, most players will sell their ore to them anyway. They just need to transport the people, which is much easier."
"Wasn’t Sayre Sea polluted? Could the ore be radioactive?" Xu Huo asked.
"There are protective gears for sale on the island that can neutralize some of the radiation pollution," the girl with the tongue piercing stroked her chin, "Besides, we are evolution players, what’s there to fear? Just drink more potion when we get back."
The others also chuckled and echoed a few words, and some players who had just met exchanged destinations, and realizing they were going to the same place, they simply agreed to travel together.
"Mining is quite a technical job," the burly player said with a smile, "I’ve seen plenty of fools walk past rare ore without realizing that it’s valuable, it’s like having a pair of light bulbs for nothing."
"That’s nothing; there are even people who fight over piles of worthless rocks as if their lives depended on it, only to bring them back and find they’re not worth a penny."
"Just memorize in advance which are the precious ores," Chu Yuan said.
"Look here, we have a fool," the girl with the tongue piercing pointed at him with a teasing smile, and the others around them laughed along.
"Did I say something wrong?" Chu Yuan’s face turned red with alienation.
"Ore won’t be presented to you in a cleanly cut and ready-to-pick state," Xu Huo chimed in, "Stone wrapped in stone, who knows what’s inside."
"What he said isn’t entirely wrong," the burly player walked up to Chu Yuan and patted his shoulder, "If you’re lucky, you might even find some that have pictures online; picking up a few pieces could at least earn you some drinking money."
Chu Yuan shrugged off his hand, "With so many people looking for ore, the mountains must be hollowed out by now."
"Not necessarily, I’ve heard a rumor that the currents near Sayre Coast actually traverse multiple spaces, so there’s always something odd washing up on the island. There’s even an island made entirely of ore, but it’s not an instance location and it floats with the currents, finding it depends on luck," the smartly dressed player said with a hint of mystery, "If you come across it, you could strike it rich."
"This sea isn’t flowing with water, it’s flowing with gold!" someone exclaimed, flushed with excitement.
"That’s why Sayre Coast is also known as the Gold Coast," the violet-haired woman said, "Players who come here, even if they don’t strike it rich, can still make a fair bit of money."
And so, the first-time passengers on this train were swayed by the "knowledge" shared by the veteran players, eagerly asking what preparations should be made before entering the instances.
Those who had been to Sayre Coast before were quite generous, sharing some basic knowledge in advance, including where to buy protective gear, and essential survival equipment for the sea, such as food, water enhanced with special potions, and if possible, arranging small boats in advance, since the Beren Clan’s ships wouldn’t always stay outside the instance locations—they typically arrived when the instance was about to end.
After two days on the train, and still not having reached Sayre Coast, Xu Huo already figured out which bar had the prettiest girls and which one offered the most cost-effective stimulant potions.
The train station was built over the sea, and to facilitate players’ travel, a road had been constructed from the station to the coast.
Calling it a road was an understatement, as it more closely resembled a thoroughfare in a small town, lined with bars and shops on both sides, predominantly bars, with screens overhead playing looped short ads welcoming players to Sayre Coast.
Xu Huo paused under one of the ad screens.
"This woman has a great figure, the Beren Clan really knows how to do business," Chu Yuan watched the woman flashing on the ad screen with relish.
"If you like strong drinks and beautiful women, if you like betting big, then welcome to Sayre Coast!"
"The most beautiful Gold Coast, where anyone can make a fortune!"
"Visitors to Sayre Coast are not guests or strangers but our friends and partners. Here you can find everything you need, and we will provide you with everything you require!"
"Does it excite you? If so, you should hurry and find a place to register. To welcome new visitors, first-time players landing will receive three days of free food and lodging, any store will offer a free island guide, you don’t have to worry about other issues, you just need to fill your pockets with White Notes by exchanging the ore!"
...
On the road to Sayre Coast, there turned out to be as many as twenty such ad screens.
Most of the players who got off the train with Xu Huo hadn’t even finished walking down this road before they found a shop to register their names and destinations.
"Where are you going?" Chu Yuan couldn’t hold back any longer and urged Xu Huo.
"Deep Blue Laboratory." Xu Huo hadn’t received any instance notifications after getting off the train, so Deep Blue Laboratory should just be a place name.
"What a coincidence, I’m headed there too," Chu Yuan replied and squeezed to the front to tell the shopkeeper his destination.
