Chapter 390 Bright Gentleman
Chapter 390: Chapter 390 Bright Gentleman
"I’ve verified the background information of some people who commissioned him, just petty thieves with no connection to this case," Shi Youzhi indicated for him to carefully watch the video, "See if you can spot anything different."
Sure enough, Xu Huo actually recognized an acquaintance, Deng Xuan.
However, the two were only dealing in stimulants in the video.
The timing was a bit coincidental, occurring on the day he was being followed.
In fact, just by looking at these videos, it was impossible to link these events together, but Xu Huo had an intuition that Deng Xuan was related to the attack on the Base City personnel.
That made things very interesting. If Rongxin Group’s goods came by sea, why bother sabotaging the stations of other sites outside Base City?
So, his previous speculation about the storage room might not be correct.
"There is one person who has been seen," he turned to Shi Youzhi and said, "on the train I took to Zone 011, he was peddling props and potions."
Shi Youzhi nodded, obviously aware, "This person named Deng Xuan, he often appears on trains and hasn’t caused any trouble."
"By the way, would you like to come work at the Base?"
Xu Huo was surprised, "You’re hiring?"
Shi Youzhi glanced at him, "Isn’t that the purpose of your visit here? However, external personnel don’t get the Grey Player status, but props and potions can be provided at cost price. If you want to get your hands on a couple of good props, it’s much cheaper than outside."
Xu Huo smiled wryly, "I don’t have any money right now."
Shi Youzhi wasn’t surprised, "Being broke is the norm, you’ll get used to it. You helped out this time, I’ll add a bonus to your end-of-month settlement."
Xu Huo thanked him before asking, "Do employees get an internal price... can they purchase Rank A Props or Super Props?"
Without even lifting an eyelid, Shi Youzhi replied, "I don’t have that authority. If you have the money, you can apply to San Yang, but whether he gives it or not is another matter."
"He was originally a player, he knows a lot about the game’s dungeons. You can consult him if you need anything."
The San Yang he mentioned was the curly-haired middle-aged man Xu Huo had met before.
After saying his farewells to Shi Youzhi, Xu Huo went to San Yang’s office. The middle-aged man’s hair was even curlier than before, looking like it hadn’t been tended to for days. He stood among a pile of square boxes, drinking a potion and browsing files, with a round projection band casting different images around him. Apart from watching himself, there were two pairs of anthropomorphic metal eyes floating behind his head, quickly scanning the screens.
Hearing a sound, he didn’t stop, just pointed to the side indicating for someone to sit and wait.
Xu Huo moved the square boxes from the chair to the table and waited silently for him to finish watching the video.
San Yang turned around, grabbed the two pairs of eyes, and rubbed them in his hands like cracking walnuts, saying, "This was my prop when I was still a player, specially used for last-minute cramming, equivalent to having an extra pair of eyes, allowing me to take in multiple views at once."
Xu Huo gave a thumbs up.
The curly-haired middle-aged man had dark circles under his, "The already burdensome daily workload increased with overtime, all thanks to you."
"Sorry." Although he said this, Xu Huo’s face showed little remorse; instead, he said, "Base and Zone 011 don’t interfere with each other. Even if it’s discovered that someone deliberately sabotaged the station, what can you do?"
San Yang let out a scoffing laugh, "We can’t, but someone else can."
He didn’t want to elaborate further and changed the subject, "I’ve heard all about it from Old Shi. You’re a smart man, and we happen to be short on staff. He also wants to recruit you for the Base."
"But let me tell you upfront, there’s tight surveillance from the fifth floor up in this building. The consequences of entering without permission can be very serious. You might be directly transported to a high-risk dungeon, and then you’ll know there are things scarier than death in this world."
"The shortage of staff at the Base is because some outside players committed theft?" Xu Huo immediately grasped his meaning.
"You guessed right, so some players were consequently fired," San Yang said gravely, "Do you want to know where the fired people went?"
"They probably ended up in high-risk dungeons as well," Xu Huo said indifferently, "Is there anything important stored above the fifth floor?"
"I don’t know, I’ve never been there," San Yang candidly admitted, "But don’t be too curious while working here, unless you have another purpose."
Xu Huo waved his hand, "I just want to buy some potions and props at a low price."
San Yang kicked a box from under his feet, "Inside is the H-Version Evolver, currently the most effective evolution potion. It’s a gift for you."
Xu Huo stopped the box with his foot and smiled, "How can I accept this?"
"Let’s just say it’s an early perk for employees," San Yang said dismissively about the potion, "Do you have anything else?"
"There is one thing," Xu Huo took out the Medal of the Radiant Gentleman, "I want to know what this medal is for."
San Yang gave him a surprised look, "I didn’t realize you were such a good guy."
"Bright Gentleman, as the name suggests, is generally awarded by the game to those who do good deeds. It has no special powers, but it’s highly recognized in game sectors where the game law is well established. Any businesses established by the Game Government will regard players with the Medal of the Radiant Gentleman highly."
"Also, if you want to join the Game Government, this medal can serve as a good stepping stone. At least you have a certain chance of being appointed in a government unit and become a Grey Player."
Xu Huo narrowed his eyes slightly, "Did you join the Game Government with a medal too?"
San Yang laughed, "I’m different. My medal was acquired by killing ten players; ten medals for one Grey Player status."
Xu Huo chuckled softly, "This medal isn’t mine."
San Yang wasn’t surprised, "If you have this medal, you can get an additional discount on props and potions. I’ll make a note of it when you want to buy something."
"The Zone 011 Government also recognizes the Medal of the Radiant Gentleman, and where there’s anti-game, there’s pro-game. Find out who, and someone will show you around the game."
Xu Huo nodded his head, stood up to leave, and when he reached the door, San Yang suddenly asked, "Do you think ’Dimensional Rift’ is an evil or a good game?"
"Labeling a game as evil or good?" Xu Huo didn’t answer the question directly but counterquestioned, "Aren’t only people capable of being good or bad?"
San Yang nodded and then went back to his work.
Xu Huo opened the door and walked out, coming face to face with Wan Tingfang, who seemed surprised, "Are you going to work here?"
"Who’d have thought we both could stay? That’s worth celebrating. Let’s find time to have a meal together," Xu Huo said.
"Let’s talk about it some other time, I’ve made other plans for the next few days," Xu Huo said with a smile.
"Alright then," Wan Tingfang waved to him and entered San Yang’s office.
Xu Huo watched the glass door that had blended back into the wall close, then turned and left after a few seconds. He made a trip to the restroom and upon returning, he saw Ran Ying leading two robots named Cheng Bing into the building, heading straight for Shi Youzhi’s office.
