Chapter 345 Spider-Man
Chapter 345: Chapter 345 Spider-Man
All the guests at the dinner table looked up.
"My mistake," Xu Huo said apologetically, smiling at He Pu.
"It’s just a glass," He Pu dismissed the concern with a wave of his hand, signaling Maid Hu Shan to clean up.
Then a smoked duck was served, but He Pu frowned at the dish. The servants grew slightly uneasy. However, Mr. Dong came over, took the plate, and replaced the whole duck, which had been cut into pieces, with one that was beheaded, tailed, and split vertically down the middle.
He Pu smiled at everyone, "Only symmetric things can be considered truly beautiful. It’s one of my habits, please forgive the oddity."
The players could only awkwardly offer a forced laugh.
The last main course was swiftly brought in. The servant carried in a large roasting pan and lifted the copper lid to reveal a golden brown, aromatic whole roasted lamb, sizzling with fat.
"The ingredients for this roasted lamb are all the freshest, using a lamb that’s just a month old, with spices and fragrant fruits picked and washed on the spot, to ensure tender meat full of juices."
The servant had already cut a piece onto his plate. He Pu picked up his knife and fork, skillfully sliced the meat into thin pieces, and placed a slice in his mouth, chewing slowly.
The roast lamb was indeed delicious, and several people at the table couldn’t help but swallow their saliva covertly.
"Please, everyone, help yourselves," He Pu gestured, and the servants with carving knives efficiently deboned the lamb ribs, dividing the meat onto the guests’ plates.
Xu Huo’s gaze shifted from the lamb ribs to the chunks of meat on his plate. He set down his knife, "This food doesn’t suit my palate, I’m afraid I can’t join you any longer."
After speaking, he stood up and left without regard for the reactions of the others in the dining room.
Mr. Ma and Mrs. Ma also fiddled with the lamb meat on their plates and, after exchanging glances, stood up and left as well.
The three guests departed one after another, leaving the remaining players looking at each other in confusion, not understanding what had happened, until someone looked closely at the lamb ribs set aside.
"Ugh!" Wei Landeng’s face suddenly changed color, and she quickly bent over to spit out the meat from her mouth!
Her reaction was so intense, the other players also realized something was off. Particularly Liu Zhengping, who had eaten a fair amount of lamb, quickly leaned under the table and began to vomit uncontrollably, filling the dining room with a sour stench.
He Pu, who hadn’t minded Xu Huo and the others leaving midway through, now wore an unpleasant expression, "What’s wrong? Does the food not suit your taste either?"
He Pu’s irritation was palpable, Mr. Dong expressionless, while Hu Shan and the other servants stood rigidly to the side, their many eyes fixed unblinkingly on the guests.
The spacious dining room was dimly lit, but in that moment, the players couldn’t help but get goosebumps!
"It’s my bad stomach, I spoiled everyone’s fun," Wei Landeng forced a smile.
Liu Zhengping nodded in agreement.
"I see," He Pu smiled again, "I have some medicine here that I keep on hand. I’ll have the Butler send some up to you later."
The brief tension was dispelled and, with Hu Shan’s assistance, He Pu returned upstairs. The other servants began to quietly bustle about again.
The players were "kindly" asked to leave the dining room, and on their way out, Mr. Dong mentioned that he would send up some medicine and snacks later.
The players left with varied expressions on their faces, Liu Zhengping letting out a dry heave as he covered his mouth and walked away.
The group went upstairs but didn’t return to their own rooms; instead, they gathered in You Qiwen’s room. After telling him about the incident at the dinner table, You Qiwen said, "So you mean you only noticed there was something wrong with the food because you were paying attention to Xu Huo?"
Wei Landeng nodded. Animal skeletons are different from human ones, after all.
"But that’s not right, if that’s the case, wouldn’t it suit him?" Chen Tu wondered aloud, "If he left, does that mean he isn’t a ’red player’?"
"Not necessarily," Flay said, "He might also want to make us lower our guard on purpose."
"He also warned us before that there might be non-instance players in the ancient castle; I don’t think he necessarily had ill intentions," Wei Landeng said.
"You believe that?" Fang Min gave her a glance, "We all know the game mission; how could there be non-instance players? Even if there were, it should be him and the Ma Family Couple, right?"
"I came in the same car with him; this man is good at rhetoric. Whether there are non-instance players is uncertain, but he most likely wants to stir trouble among the players to benefit from it," Yu Shuai said, arms folded.
"You’re all thinking too much. What does Xu Huo’s motive have to do with the task?" Li Chao slurred with bleary but articulate speech, "Whatever he does can’t affect my completion of the instance task. If he causes trouble, just kill him and be done."
The other players seemed persuaded and returned to their rooms.
At that moment, Mr. Ma and Mrs. Ma came out from Xu Huo’s room; as they crossed paths, Xu Huo smiled and asked, "How was the mutton?"
Liu Zhengping and his group had dark expressions on their faces as they turned and slammed the door with a bang.
Mrs. Ma snorted with laughter, "A bunch of blind idiots."
Xu Huo saw the two out and closed the door.
The main course, the mutton, had no issues; it was only that the bones that were picked out were incorrect—a tactic used to mock the players, which incidentally proved one point—the sender of the invitations was definitely among the three key individuals: He Pu, Mr. Dong, and maid Hu Shan.
He turned and checked the cabinet where the human skin was stored; it hadn’t been touched.
Thinking about Mr. Dong, who had stayed in the dining room the whole time, he closed the cabinet door again.
After making a few preparations, he turned off the lights and sat in a single chair in the corner of the room.
At midnight, the night lights in the ancient castle suddenly went out. There was a faint noise in the castle when the lights extinguished, but soon everything fell silent, and the entire castle was quickly immersed in darkness.
Xu Huo didn’t move, but the edge of the curtain swayed slightly.
The next second, he sprang up from his seat, and just as he left it, a force smashed through the sofa, breaking it along with the floor underneath!
As the crackling sound of breakage rang out, a thick iron chain shot through the air, sweeping toward his back!
Xu Huo rolled behind another sofa, and just as he raised his head, he saw the iron chain slashing down from above. He parried with his sword, retreating several steps and kicking out a table lamp!
An arm resembling a human but of a particularly long size reached out from behind the curtain, catching the table lamp neatly and placing it two meters away, before snapping back to fiercely grab at Xu Huo. At this moment, the large curtain was pulled down, revealing the person hiding behind it, which was actually a monstrous two-meter-tall spider-human!
Its torso was a suspended human body, covered in long hairs on the face and body, with only a pair of large round red eyes visible. Additionally, eight spider-legs covered with steel-thorned fur protruded from its back. These eight legs could move like a spider as well as support its upright posture and movement like human limbs—this was the very creature that spied on him from outside the window the previous night.
Xu Huo dodged its attack and glanced at the damaged sofa and floor, then suddenly laughed, "It’s fine for you to wreck things yourself, but others can’t even break a glass, quite the double standard you have there."
Spider-Man paid no attention to him; its spider-legs whipped the iron chain through the air with a whooshing sound. The chain smashed the cabinet hiding the human skin; upon seeing the items flying out, Spider-Man seemed even more furious!
