Chapter 337 The Woman in Rain Alley

Chapter 337: Chapter 337 The Woman in Rain Alley

Unfortunately, there wasn’t much information online about this, and Xu Huo ceased his search after a while.

He then started looking for news about South City.

Looking at the map, he would definitely pass through this area on his way from Central City to Rose Castle. There was only fragmented information about Rose Castle online, which might have had something to do with the castle owner’s status—the owner was famous for charity work and had received commendations from Central City. However, it was the South City area that provided him with some intriguing information.

An online post mentioned that, starting three years ago, every once in a while, an old residential building here would inexplicably experience rain.

It was called inexplicable because there were no rain clouds, but when the time came, it would lightly rain every night, and every time it rained, someone would either disappear without reason or die.

Someone had named this place Rain Alley, but it had no association with the obscure beauty of poetry; rather, it was a kind of vague fear.

Xu Huo packed some things in advance, shouldered his backpack, and took a ride to this place, following the directions from the internet to go inside.

The deeper he went, the quieter it became. It wasn’t completely dark yet, but there were no people walking around; every household’s windows were tightly shut, the curtains drawn tight. Only a few homes stealthily peeked out through a slit, but as soon as they saw a stranger coming in, they quickly closed the curtains.

Xu Huo aimed at one of the homes on the third floor and knocked on the door.

It took a while before someone answered, and the door was chained, leaving only a crack open. The owner asked warily, "What do you want?"

Xu Huo replied with a smile, "I’m looking for a relative. I lost contact with them and also lost the address. They live around here; their last name is Hu. Do you happen to know them?"

"Hu?" The person seemed to know and let out a sigh, "Then your relative might be gone. Just out and over two blocks from here, in an alley, a person with the last name Hu died, and it was a horrible death..."

Realizing this was someone else’s relative, the resident didn’t go into details, instead saying, "It’s not safe here at night, you better leave soon."

After saying that, they closed the door.

Xu Huo went downstairs and headed straight for the alley.

The sky was dim, and he walked on the uneven stone bricks, entering a short alley only about ten meters long. The walls and ground had several dark stains, and a faint smell of blood mixed with a foul odor.

At the other end of the alley were also messy residential buildings with small passageways leading in every direction.

Xu Huo didn’t go further, instead waiting at the entrance of the alley.

At that moment, a light rain began to fall, just heavy enough to wet the ground but not slippery underfoot. He shouldered his umbrella, lighting a cigarette while watching a woman in a cheongsam walk out of the depths of the alley. She walked gracefully under a white umbrella in the dim yellow light of the street lamps.

The thick scent of her perfume spread throughout the alley. Xu Huo leaned against the wall, his eyes following her.

When the cheongsam-clad woman got to him, she stopped and turned around, facing him with a coquettish smile, "Your umbrella looks quite nice. Can you give it to me?"

Xu Huo glanced at his flower-patterned umbrella, "You want it for free?"

The woman’s delicate smile paused, her lips still curled, "I can buy it from you."

Xu Huo smiled slightly, "Not for sale. You can trade something for it."

The woman in the cheongsam elegantly brushed her hair by her ear, the small bells on her wrist jingling, "Name your price."

Xu Huo didn’t respond but asked her, "Do you smoke?"

The cheongsam woman hesitated before nodding. Her snow-white hand gently reached out from under the umbrella, ready to take it from his hand, not expecting Xu Huo to flick his fingers and throw the cigarette at her face.

The cheongsam woman caught the cigarette, her expression turning somewhat cold.

Xu Huo acted as if he didn’t see, "Big sister, it’s not safe for a woman to walk at night. Are you dressed up so beautifully for work?"

The woman in the cheongsam chuckled, "All you men have nothing but colored rubbish in your heads."

Xu Huo conceded, then heard her say, "I’m going to a banquet."

"Rich people sure know how to throw a party; they always need me to accompany them. I can never eat my fill, which forces me to find something to eat beforehand every time I go."

"Sounds like the host is quite stingy," Xu Huo flicked his lighter on and off.

The woman in the cheongsam twirled her cigarette and, without asking him for fire, suddenly asked, "You’re from out of town, aren’t you? Ordinary people wouldn’t dare come here at night."

"Exactly, just got here today to look for a relative." Xu Huo said indifferently, "Who knew I wouldn’t find anyone, wasting the local specialties I brought especially."

The woman in the cheongsam giggled softly, "What’s your relative’s name?"

"I live nearby; I might know them."

Xu Huo turned to take a closer look at her face, "You know, you do look a bit like her."

"Her name is Huang Yue."

The rain in the alley suddenly intensified, and with a clink of the lighter, the woman’s five fingers stabbed towards his throat like lightning!

There was a double hiss, almost simultaneous. As flames sprang up from the corner of the woman’s cheongsam, Xu Huo’s neck was also struck by a bloodied nail mark.

The two pulled back to a three-meter distance, each propping an umbrella.

The woman in the cheongsam casually patted out the flames and laughed, "Setting fire in the water, quite a thought."

Xu Huo said pensively, "This rain has the ability to suppress artifacts."

Not only that, but the cheongsam she wore must also be an artifact.

"You’re a smart one," the woman in the cheongsam stuck out her red tongue and licked her lips, "I thought I was going to go there hungry today, but luck has it, a player came right to my door."

Xu Huo took a bottle out of his backpack, "Not sure if your rain can extinguish gasoline."

The woman in the cheongsam’s eyes darkened, and she tossed her white umbrella into the air, leaping up against the wall, climbing rapidly in an eerie posture!

Bang! Bang!

One after another, glass bottles shattered in the alley, but the woman in the cheongsam used the walls to bounce back and forth, dodging the splattered gasoline. When she cornered Xu Huo, only a few droplets of oil stained her cheongsam, and her now elongated nails swiped toward his throat!

Just as his windpipe was about to be slashed, a glass bottle stood beside Xu Huo’s face. Those steel-piercing nails left only a fine scratch on the bottle, then changed direction and dug towards his heart!

Xu Huo twisted on the spot, striking her head with the bottle in his hand, dousing the woman in the cheongsam’s head with gasoline. With the brighter of the lighter, flames instantly ignited her upper body!

The woman screamed and pressed against the wall. Instead of extinguishing the fire, she rushed towards Xu Huo at high speed, casting a blurry afterimage. Xu Huo dodged sideways, but his large umbrella was flipped over, and five nails clawed at his eyes!

The fire on her may have been extinguished, possibly because of the effect of the rain; her scalp showed abnormal swelling, with new, intact skin peeking out from under the tear.

Xu Huo frowned and kicked the woman’s hand away, "Are you wearing human skin?"
