Chapter 295: Chapter 295: Escape from the Mental Hospital
Xu Huo turned around and saw several medical staff at a window on the fourth floor wrestling with a red-haired man, who was shouting, "I’m not crazy! I’m a member of the Pioneer Players of the Special Defense Department Ting City Branch!"
"Hey, don’t jump down, this is the fourth floor, you won’t die if you jump but you’ll be crippled!" Dai Wenqian yelled from behind.
"I’m an Evolver, what’s the fourth floor to me, even jumping from the tenth won’t hurt me, stop pulling me!" The red-haired man’s clothes were all torn, "You imposters posing as medical staff, be careful or I’ll check your water meter when I get out!"
The few medical staff members were all laughed breathlessly, and Dai Wenqian said, "Hold him down, and give him an injection first."
The red-haired man looked back and must have seen the syringe, struggling even more fiercely. The staff nearly lost their grip on him, and half his body was dangling outside the window, locking eyes with Xu Huo looking up from below.
"Xu Huo!" shouted the red-haired man excitedly: "How did you also get in here? Quick, help me, these people want to inject me!"
Xu Huo turned his head and asked Yu Qingqing, "Who is he?"
"Sima Xiao’er." Yu Qingqing said, "He’s not a first-time patient here, he always gets brought in by different relatives."
"Ptui!" Sima Xiao’er yelled from upstairs, "I’m a damn orphan, where did these relatives come from? You bunch of damn NPCs, let go... don’t, don’t hit! I don’t want the injection!"
As he was speaking, his voice got smaller, and Dai Wenqian had pulled him back inside.
"Do you still remember him?" Yu Qingqing asked quietly.
Xu Huo shook his head slightly, "Just an average face, throw him into a crowd with that red hair, and no one could pick him out by his looks, I generally don’t remember ugly people."
Yu Qingqing pressed her lips together and snickered softly upon hearing this, "Are you saying I’m pretty?"
Xu Huo nodded. Yu Qingqing could be a star, so her looks were definitely not poor.
"It’s nearly lunchtime, let’s go back to eat first. Today’s meal is good; I specially asked the lady who buys the vegetables to get what you like." Yu Qingqing said cheerfully, "After lunch, have your medicine and take a nap. What would you like to do in the afternoon? Writing or drawing, both are fine."
"Let’s draw." Xu Huo responded offhand.
Most of the time, the patients in the hospital have nothing to do and can move around freely, but there are limited options.
After lunch, Xu Huo got some crayons and paper and went back to his room. The patient in the opposite bed was gone again. He asked Yu Qingqing while taking his medicine, and she said the person had been transferred to the fourth floor.
He hadn’t been in the room long when the few people he had met last night stealthily came to him with books.
"You didn’t take your meds, did you?" the tall black one asked right away.
"No." Xu Huo looked at them, "Do you know anyone else in the Special Defense Department? Does Nie Xuan know?"
The tall black one was quite surprised, "You know Captain Nie?"
"We’re old friends." Xu Huo said, "Didn’t he come in with you guys this time, during the fog event?"
The few people seemed somewhat embarrassed, but Xu Huo didn’t continue to press the issue and instead said, "Are you clear about what types of patients are on the fourth floor?"
The tall black one nodded, "There are more aggressive ones, if you know Captain Nie then you should know about Sima Xiao’er."
"Red furred?"
"Exactly, he’s on the fourth floor. He doesn’t understand that we’re all trapped here and powerless, certainly not a match for the hospital. If we want to make a successful escape, we must rely on wit rather than brawl. Making a scene will only get us injected," said the Tall Black One with an expression of frustration, pausing before he asked Xu Huo, "Do you have any friends in the hospital?"
"No, just me." Xu Huo looked around at the group; Tang Guangbo and Yu Qingqing certainly couldn’t be real, while these members of the Special Defense Department, along with Sima Xiao’er upstairs, must have come from Ting City into Seventeenth Hospital—they were real.
"Do you remember the name of this hospital?" he asked.
The Tall Black One was momentarily taken aback, his expression blank for a moment, but then he said, "The Seventeenth Hospital, it’s written over by the duty office."
Xu Huo frowned slightly. The appearance of Tang Guangbo, Dai Wenqian, and others meant this place was obviously formed by his consciousness, otherwise there wouldn’t be so many acquaintances.
He didn’t recognize these people from the Special Defense Department, and they had memories from before and after entering this place. Even if their memories crossed paths, they shouldn’t think the name of the hospital was Seventeenth Hospital.
Was he influencing these people, or was he the one being influenced?
"Let’s not talk about this now; regarding how to escape, we have a good plan," the Tall Black One said. "There are security guards patrolling outside the hospital at night, but with long intervals. The trickier part is the electronic alarm on the perimeter wall; we have to turn it off in the control room. Otherwise, we’ll get exposed if we come within three meters of the wall."
"The control room is on the first floor. The doors to the stairwells on each floor are locked at night. To get from the third floor to the first, we need to unlock two doors and pass two duty offices. But that’s not a problem for me—the locks are standard ones, and I’ve made two master keys that can definitely open them."
"Xiao Gao and I will go down first to unlock the doors. If nothing unexpected happens, the others will follow, to avoid getting everyone wiped out in case of a mishap. Once on the first floor, Xiao Yang will head to the control room to shut down the electronic alarms and the lights behind the hospital. We’ll synchronize our timing to avoid the guards, giving us time to get far away. There are also the doctors’ cars outside—not a problem."
The plan was clear and straightforward. After listening, Xu Huo asked, "What kind of lock is on the door near the third-floor duty office?"
"A password lock," replied the Tall Black One, looking at him puzzled. "Is there a problem?"
Xu Huo shook his head.
"Alright then, you know the plan. How about you go find Sima Xiao’er?" proposed the Tall Black One. "Xiao Gao, Xiao Yang, and I all have tasks, but we can’t just leave Sima Xiao’er behind."
While speaking, he handed a key to Xu Huo.
Xu Huo did not object, but said, "The medical staff on the fourth floor will definitely be more than on the third. If the lights go out and we’re not down yet, you guys go ahead. We’ll find a way back to rescue us later."
The Tall Black One and the others looked at him with surprise, admiring his loyalty. "Brother, if we can get out, we’ll definitely find a way to save you!"
After agreeing upon the time to act that night, the Tall Black One and his fellows left the same way they had come. The skinny patient keeping watch looked back at him, whispering, "There’s a lunatic on the fourth floor, be careful."
Xu Huo watched the group leave.
The night came quickly. To avoid falling asleep, Xu Huo moved around in his room until it was almost time. Then he opened his room door and stepped out.
The nurse at the duty office was still sleeping. He exchanged glances with the Tall Black One and his group before opening the stairwell door to head to the fourth floor.
However, the Tall Black One and his team hadn’t thoroughly scoped out the situation in the hospital. There were two doors in the corridor on the fourth floor, one with a key lock, and the other with a password lock.
He tried several passwords but failed to open it. However, the electronic beeps attracted others. Just as he saw shadows thrown into the hallway, someone suddenly poked out their head from the side of the wall, grinning at him, "Are you trying to get in?"
