Chapter 268: Chapter 268: Humanity is the Last Line of Defense

"What’s the matter with this person?" Yan Jiayu dragged the dying female player back, looked at the person on the ground almost twisting their limbs off, and revealed a pained expression, "Post-effects of the Cannibal Player?"

"Post-effects of the Liupi Worm." Xu Huo pointed at the nearby tree and ground, "Be careful not to let those kinds of bugs touch you..."

Before he could finish his sentence, a Liupi Worm that had burrowed into the tree suddenly crawled out, landing right on the back of her hand.

Seeing a blood cavity remaining where the bug had touched, Yan Jiayu’s eyes widened in shock. She clenched her fist immediately, and as her muscles swelled, she grabbed her upper arm and squeezed hard. With a "pfft" sound, it was as if something had been crushed.

Then she scraped down her arm a bit, and after a trickle of blood flowed from the wound on her hand, she applied some Potion, "It’s okay now."

Xu Huo watched her for a few seconds, couldn’t help but laugh, "This bug may be poisonous, you’d better drink some Antitoxin."

Yan Jiayu nodded, took out a bottle of Antitoxin and finished it in a few gulps, "A milk-flavored Antitoxin, I traded for it specially with someone in the instance."

Xu Huo put away his Sword, confirming she was really okay, then finished off the man who was about to have his brain eaten by the worms.

"His face is moving." Yan Jiayu poked with a Stone Stick, and the meat worm broke through the facial skin and crawled out, now three times its previous size, slower in movement, and soon died after falling to the ground. The flesh on both cheeks of the senior had caved in deeply as well.

"Are there such species in the instance too?" Yan Jiayu was also surprised, "Can they eat a person empty?"

"People are evolving, other species might also undergo mutations." Xu Huo had already received the deceased player’s inheritance, which included half a jar of such worms in his carry-on cabin.

"Considering only this worm, it actually has some ingenious uses in this instance," Yan Jiayu said, scratching her head. "However, I feel it’s a bit too inhumane to use them like this. Although many have lost their moral bottom line after starting the game, the baseline of being human should not be abandoned."

"My master once said that it is not shameful for a person to abandon humanity in a crisis, but it is not okay to give up from the start. Because humanity is the ultimate line for a person, not a choice that comes without agonizing conflict."

Xu Huo agreed with her point of view, "Then how should we deal with these worms?"

Releasing them might accidentally harm others... What do you think?" she asked.

"Then let’s kill them," Xu Huo said. "Consider it a link in the food chain. We simply encountered danger and dealt with it."

Yan Jiayu thought it made sense and said, "How many got out? I’ll go find them."

Xu Huo described the details, and then the two cooperated to dig out and crush the five Liupi Worms hiding in the trees and the soil.

After the task was done, Yan Jiayu pointed to the female player, "How should we deal with her? She says she has a guide to the instance but will only tell us if we spare her life."

Xu Huo glanced at the person on the ground, "Kill her as well."

The female player’s pupils trembled violently, hastily pleading for mercy, "I absolutely didn’t lie to you. The games in the amusement park are not that simple. The further you go, the harder it gets, and there are players trapped in the instance disguised as Game points to kill people for gain. I know all this, and it is definitely worth your while to exchange this information for a life!"

Xu Huo looked behind her, and the female player, clenching her teeth, had no choice but to pull out a blood-stained map. However, the map was just an enlarged version of a route from a travel guide and nothing special.

"You need to use this prop," she said, taking out a magnifying glass. "The words on the map are written with potion; you can’t see them without the prop."

Xu Huo put it on for a look and, sure enough, the words all appeared. However, the map appeared to have changed hands several times, with the handwriting varying in age, and the statements about game points were inconsistent.

"A map that still needs verification for its authenticity," he said, shifting his gaze to the female player, his eyes gradually growing colder.

"You... are too bullying!" The female player burst out angrily. However, already beaten to the point of broken tendons and fractured bones, her speed and strength were greatly reduced, and before she could even stand up, Yan Jiayu sent her on her way to the afterlife with a stick.

They did not take the little hats from the two players but simply covered the bodies on the spot and left.

There indeed was a camp not far from here, but it was not the place those Cannibal Players had indicated.

The accommodation camp was a two-story Fairy Tale Castle nestled deep in the forest, covering a vast area, with a stone bridge in front of the gate and a vast lake beneath it.

"This place looks so realistic," Yan Jiayu couldn’t help saying. "Are we really inside a copy?"

"This theme park copy is supposed to be linked to specific places in other game worlds," Xu Huo glanced around at the completely different vegetation and added, "It’s just not known how many different places there are."

At that moment, it began to rain, which quickly grew heavier, so they ran into the castle in the rain. Two stuffed rabbits hopped over with towels and then led them to check in.

The castle’s hall held quite a few players lingering around, some of them even sprawling out on the floor to sleep.

Xu Huo looked at the accommodation prices and instantly understood the reason. He asked the stuffed bear in charge of registration, "Can we rest here if we don’t have money?"

The stuffed bear stared at him, "Of course you can, the theme park is very friendly to every visitor. Even if you are poor and stingy, we will keep a place for you to sleep. However, we can’t provide delicious food and restroom services for free."

"You have to pay even to use the toilet? This place is even more of a rip-off than a real theme park!" A player complained loudly while walking out of the gallery not far away. When he saw Xu Huo and Yan Jiayu looking at him, he glared back, "What are you looking at!"

Xu Huo paid the money, and the stuffed bear’s tone immediately sweetened, calling over two little rabbits to take them to their room, and telling them that the food and fruit in the room were free. If they needed other food, such as candy or cake, they could order it.

The two followed the little rabbits down the hallway. Since it was a Fairy Tale Castle, the paintings hanging on the walls were mostly whimsical, with decorations often shaped like candies, balloons, or flowers. The air was also filled with a strong sweet scent.

After entering the room, Xu Huo gave a few pieces of candy to the stuffed rabbit, which then told him, "The theme park does not welcome guests buying meat, but it can provide fresh and tender vegetables, which are specially supplied from other areas. They are picked and cooked daily, and the children in the theme park love to eat them."

"Are there still children in the theme park?" Yan Jiayu asked quickly, but the stuffed rabbit did not answer and just walked away eating the candy.

"Clearly, children have been sucked into the copy, but not a single one is seen after entering." Yan Jiayu turned to look at Xu Huo, "Where could they have been taken?"

"The theme park is so big, they could be anywhere," Xu Huo paused, then sat down and said, "Let’s divide the props."
