Chapter 237: Chapter 237: Just Two People Left (Reward Plus Update)

The first to make a move was Lu Gang, he reached for Xie Man’s throat, but she dodged and followed him as he jumped toward the sofa in the room. The sofa turned over at the feet of the gloomy man, who stepped on it to gain leverage and thrust forward to appear in front of Ni Tian, punching her towards Xu Huo’s position, and Xu Huo, taking advantage of the opportunity, opened up Ni Tian with his elbow, turned his head to dodge Li Weiran’s scissors, and sent Gao Jun flying!

"Boom!" Gao Jun crashed through the room and rolled into the gallery. Xu Huo flashed out and stepped on the still-prone figure.

But at that moment, several colored distractions erupted beside him, and several net ropes flew towards him, which Xu Huo cut through with his sword, kicking Gao Jun into the darkness ahead.

Girl in the painting, who had been lying in ambush nearby, came down and wrapped the man, dragging him over to the blank painting frame. Xu Huo quickly followed, pressing the man into the painting frame, but it didn’t swallow the man like it did with Ni Tian.

Neither players who had cleared nor those who hadn’t worked; it seemed the third mission’s method of creating artifacts was different from the first two.

While he was pondering, Li Weiran appeared behind him, "Xu San, you are Passerby A, aren’t you?"

Xu Huo spun with his sword, Sword Qi spreading out before regathering to the width of a person, and Li Weiran holding the scissors tilted her head, her upper body sliding to the ground at an angle.

When he turned back, Gao Jun had already disappeared.

"Xu San, save me!" Ni Tian and the gloomy man entered the gallery and, seeing Li Weiran’s body, the former cried for help. The gloomy man immediately retreated, while warily watching Xu Huo.

Ni Tian was overjoyed and hurried towards Xu Huo, but just then a monster attacked from the front of the gallery. Pulled aside to dodge the monster’s staff, she gratefully said, "Thanks to you..."

Before she finished, Xu Huo casually stuffed her into the animated painting next to him, then took down the painting frame and raised his sword to block the monster’s staff!

Seeing that his Ruby Sword clashed head-on with the sculpture monster’s staff without issue, the gloomy man quickly changed his target, heading back inside to attack Xie Man together with Lu Gang.

"Shameless, two against one, are all the other players dead?!" Xie Man yelled as she fled the room. As soon as she smelled the blood, and saw that Gao Jun and Li Weiran, who had come out earlier, were gone—one missing, one chopped in half—and Xu Huo valiantly fighting the sculpture monster, she swallowed hard. The flat shoes on her feet suddenly split open something like a frog’s webbing, and she jumped onto a column then started to climb up.

She was fast, and the gloomy man and Lu Gang couldn’t catch up, but after they took a few paintings in an attempt to knock her down, it drew the monster’s attention back. It stopped paying attention to Xu Huo and charged at them!

"Clang, clang, clang!" The hunched sculpture monster made an urgent, unpleasant noise on the tiled floor, forcing the two men to retreat. Meanwhile, Xie Man on the column, after a sigh of relief, kept climbing up, comforting herself while climbing, "No matter whether I’ve cleared it or not, as long as I survive until the end of the instance, I can go to the next one..."

But to her, and the other three’s surprise, the monster actually stopped under the column, then straightened up and stretched its neck forcefully towards her, as if confirming something.

Xie Man climbed desperately upwards, but at that moment, the sculpture monster swung its staff, and she was pulled by an invisible force, flying towards the column at a diagonal!

As she touched the column, she disappeared; Lu Gang and the gloomy man, who could only see shadows and not the painting’s content, immediately dashed over!

But Xu Huo, not far away, remembered that there should have been a blank sheet of paper hung there. He hesitated as he moved; a live person entering a white paper somewhat met the requirements of the third mission, but a painting created by the sculpture monster was likely an animated painting like the others in the gallery. If it were indeed an animated painting, hasty contact would only result in being swallowed.

In his moment of hesitation, Lu Gang was the first to touch the painting. The next second, he spun and was sucked into the painting, and the gloomy man, who was a close distance away, drew back his hand, but then reached for the painting again.

However, during this moment of indecision, the painting frame in front of him flew upwards, and soon after, the sculpture monster also swung its staff his way!

The gloomy man dodged behind the column, circling the not-so-agile monster, running down the corridor. The monster peeked around the column following his route, but by that time the gloomy man had run far. The monster turned back and, not finding anyone else, began to swing its staff wildly in the gallery.

The gloomy man dashed to the deepest part of the corridor in one breath and hid in the room where Li Weiran lived. He locked the door, retreated gasping for air, and still stared at the door with both eyes. After a long silence, footsteps finally sounded from outside, extinguishing the hopeful light in his eyes.

"Knock, knock, knock." Xu Huo knocked on the door without speaking.

After hesitating for a long time, the gloomy man eventually took the initiative to open the door and stepped back to let the person outside come in.

"We haven’t had any conflicts since we met in this replica, so you have no need to kill me. Other than a few potions, one practical item I had was smashed by a statue, and the other two items are quite useless. If you want them, I can give you all of them. I don’t have any illusions about clearing the level; just let me live until the replica time ends."

Xu Huo walked over to the sofa and sat down, placing two paintings beside him.

The one on top was the painting that had consumed both Xie Man and Lu Gang, who had now turned into images in an oil painting, twisting their faces in the frame unwillingly.

The gloomy man glanced at it before averting his gaze, consciously keeping his distance from Xu Huo.

"No need to be so tense," Xu Huo signaled for him to sit down. "I still have a third task to complete."

The gloomy man’s face visibly darkened, "Do you want me to try it for you?"

Xu Huo tapped the two paintings beside him, "If you can clear it in one go, I can give you one painting."

The gloomy man showed struggle on his face but quickly resigned himself to fate, "It seems I don’t have any other choice."

Xu Huo nodded, "You’re right."

The gloomy man paused for a moment, then sat down on the floor and said, "You’re strong, stronger than any Level E Player I’ve seen. Li Weiran was quite powerful, and yet he died at your hands after just a few moves."

Xu Huo smiled and did not continue that line of conversation, but instead asked, "What’s your name?"

"Wei Da." The gloomy man subconsciously touched the pit on his chin, "Friends mock my name, saying it sounds like a brand of tissues, so I prefer not to tell people."

"You can use an alias in the game," Xu Huo said.

"A man doesn’t change his name, nor his seat his surname," Wei Da straightened his back, "Does a grown man not dare to use his real name?"

Xu Huo raised an eyebrow, "You don’t seem like someone who has such integrity."

Wei Da choked on his words before saying, "It’s just a code name; real or fake, it doesn’t matter. I can’t be bothered to make up a new one."

Xu Huo touched his chin, "Let me see your items."

Wei Da knew he couldn’t escape this predicament and fairly briskly took out his items and potions. He thought his items were unimpressive, so he didn’t hide the Evolution Potion, hoping instead that Xu Huo would take an interest in it to make up for his psychological shortfall.

However, he was mistaken, as Xu Huo was very interested in his items.
