Chapter 235: Who is Passerby A

Chapter 235: Chapter 235: Who is Passerby A

Apart from the common point that both missing paintings may have been damaged, the other players spent another whole day searching the art museum without finding any further clues. However, everyone was more guarded than before, and as the time for the lights to go out approached, no one planned to return to their rooms but was dispersed throughout various locations in the museum.

Li Weiran stood next to the sketch she had touched before, with Gao Jun not far to her right, while Xie Man was across from her.

To the left were Xu Huo and Ni Tian, standing equidistant between Li Weiran and Fan Shiji. Fan Shiji was near the museum’s entrance but did not stand directly beneath "The Time of Stillness"; instead, he chose a column nearby, from which he could look over to Xu Huo and Li Weiran from a distance.

The sullen man stood opposite Fan Shiji, with Lu Gang at his side.

The eight players maintained these positions until the lights went out.

But once the lights were off, the players realized that the small lamps on the columns only illuminated a little patch of the ground in front of them, leaving almost everything else in the dark, especially with the dim lighting making even the vicinity of the columns hard to see.

In the sudden absence of light, it took time for their eyes to adjust to the darkness, and even after they did, under these conditions, they could barely make out some nearby shadows, which is why everyone instinctively looked toward the spots where there was light.

Xie Man looked down to find, right above her on the ground by the light source, a hand reaching out, apparently to grab a painting. But the next second, the lamp on the column shattered, followed by a succession of cracking sounds. The lamps on several columns in a row from Li Weiran’s position to where Fan Shiji stood burst, and a quarter of the lights in the whole library went out!

"Li Weiran!" Xie Man rushed to the other side and called out but received no response. She then felt for the painting on the column, and sure enough, the sketch was gone!

"Someone got the painting!" Almost simultaneously, Gao Jun came over from the right and raised his voice to alert the other players in the museum. He then headed towards Xu Huo’s direction, but at that moment, he felt a strong gust next to him. He reflexively stepped back as a long dark shadow slashed into the ground before instantly sweeping across towards him!

Xu Huo put away the Crimson Sword after seeing Gao Jun and Xie Man forced back by the monster. The sketch that had absorbed Li Weiran was now in his hands; the second task required a forgery, which supposedly necessitated bringing the person in the painting out. But now, the hunched-over monster in the sketch suddenly stretched out its hand from the paper to grab him, emitting a strange, unsettling hissing sound.

"What’s with all these noises!" Not only this sketch, but suddenly all the paintings in the museum seemed to come to life, filling the exhibition hall with a mix of complex and strange sounds.

Xu Huo held the painting a bit farther away and nodded to the Girl in the painting, who then came over, took the hand of the hunched-over monster, and was drawn into the painting. Within seconds, the monster curled up inside the sketch, and a hand reached out from the shadow—it was Li Weiran’s hand.

Turning the painting to face the back of the frame, Xu Huo retreated while tying her hand with a piano wire, pulling her out from behind the frame. Then, he threw the painting to Fan Shiji, who had turned back towards him.

As the frame crashed in front of Fan Shiji, Li Weiran had completely emerged from the sketch. The same instant they noticed each other, the game issued the third prompt:

[Congratulations Player Passerby A on completing the second task of this instance.]

With this announcement, the vast museum suddenly fell silent, the sounds emanating from the paintings abruptly faded away, and the monsters that had pushed Gao Jun and Xie Man to the end of the corridor also suddenly halted their attack. Just like on the previous two nights after the lights out, they slowly started moving back towards the center of the exhibition hall.

"It was you!" At that moment, Li Weiran suddenly cried out in a rage, grabbing the Large Scissors and chopping towards Fan Shiji!

Fan Shiji recognized her voice and quickly said, "Li Weiran, it’s me, ah!"

"You’re the one who did it, Passerby A!" Li Weiran said through gritted teeth: "I really underestimated you. You tricked me into getting the painting because you wanted to complete the second level, didn’t you? It looks like the person who killed Pan Siming was you!"

Fan Shiji dodged her attack and quickly explained: "I’m not this Passerby A you speak of; you’re mistaken. I came over when I heard Xie Man and Gao Jun talking!"

"You lie!" Li Weiran shouted: "Weren’t you the one who first told me that damaged paintings are forgeries? And suggested we each take the painting we damaged? Why didn’t you take ’The Time of Stillness’?"

"Because he wants to clear the game!" the brooding man and Lu Gang appeared nearby, attacking Fan Shiji together, and shouted: "So it’s Passerby A, huh! Share your method for clearing the game!"

Fan Shiji was at a loss for words, and at that moment, Gao Jun also came from behind to help Li Weiran.

Hearing the commotion ahead, Ni Tian turned back, aghast, to look at her own shadow to the rear, only to unexpectedly bump into someone and crash against the painting on the column. She said angrily, "Watch it!"

"I have night blindness," said Xu Huo, who didn’t linger on the empty frame that fell to the ground but instead turned on his phone’s flashlight and shone it forward.

The statue-like monster that Xu Huo had seen the previous night had returned to its original place, while Li Weiran and the others had pushed Fan Shiji near the front door. As the light beam shone, Fan Shiji saw all the players facing him and couldn’t help but look uncomfortable; when his gaze fell on Li Weiran and he suddenly came to his senses, he pointed at her and said, "You! You are Passerby A!"

"I clearly went back after hearing the noise, but as soon as we came face to face, you wanted to kill me. It was because I disrupted your game clearance, wasn’t it?"

However, the other players ignored him. With Li Weiran attacking him head-on, Lu Gang and the brooding man flanking from both sides, the three of them nearly had Fan Shiji cornered; seeing the Large Scissors encircle his legs, Fan Shiji suddenly produced a white steel wire that flew out and wrapped around a chandelier. With the wire contracting, he was pulled up into the air!

"It’s really him!" the gloomy man said: "With the height of the chandelier, it’s difficult for any of us to get up there, let alone place a body. He’s the one who killed Pan Siming!"

Li Weiran’s expression briefly froze, then she was certain that it was Fan Shiji who had pulled her out of the painting, so she said, "Don’t let him get away, make him reveal the method to clear the game!"

"The museum is only so big; he can’t escape!" Gao Jun looked up at the person hanging in mid-air, "Fan Shiji, a wise man submits to circumstances. Do you think you alone can win against so many of us?"

"Are you all stupid?" Fan Shiji shouted angrily: "If I were the one who cleared the game, would I still be here for you to hunt down?"

"That’s not necessarily true!" Xu Huo shone the light on his face, "You’re the only one who has cleared two levels, and the third level is right in front of you. Would you really leave?"

Fan Shiji was dazzled by the flashlight. He let go of the steel wire and jumped down, his gaze lingering between Li Weiran and Xu Huo for a moment, as if he had an epiphany, "I know who the real game-clearing player is now!"
