Chapter 212: Chapter 212 Sooner or Later You’ll Get a Beating

"This has nothing to do with color blindness," Xu Huo said as he looked at him. "Those two doors are not traps."

When he had chosen a door separately from Dai Wenqian, Xu Huo had guessed that this man was overthinking it. Dai thought that traps were everywhere in the building, so the doors, differentiated by red and green colors, could naturally also be traps. But in reality, this didn’t make any sense at all.

Professor Hao had named the cabin "Holiday Hut" as his place of leisure and to observe the Man-Eating Flowers. It was more free and relaxed than an ordinary workspace. There was no need to tamper with the doors leading back to the building; the two doors likely just led to different places.

So, whether Professor Hao was colorblind or not was irrelevant.

"Does the green door lead to the bedroom on the second floor, and the red door to the hall?" Dai Wenqian immediately guessed.

Xu Huo nodded.

Dai Wenqian didn’t say much else. Being too clever for his own good, he had unfortunately chosen the green door and encountered a mutated creature in the bedroom. During the struggle, he was caught by a Man-Eating Flower, Wei Bin was seriously injured, and he lost an item as a result.

Gu Yu had already bandaged Wei Bin’s wounds, and she updated the two of them on the current situation.

"So it was because of them," Dai Wenqian said as he adjusted his glasses, rising with a displeased tone. He then went to knock on the elevator doors and, when he reached the fifth elevator, an identical knocking sound came from inside.

Dai Wenqian forced the elevator doors open, and Brother Tie, who had already climbed up, hurriedly squeezed out a Smiley Face upon seeing him, "I’m really glad you’re okay—"

Before he could finish, Dai Wenqian lifted him with one hand and slammed a punch that flipped him onto the ground, then held his head and smashed it hard against the floor, "A person can be unintelligent or not kind, but they should understand human speech."

"I’ve already said not to mess around with the exterior walls. Even if your head is filled with water, you ought to know whether that’s right or wrong."

Bloodied by the thrashing, Brother Tie eventually reacted and swung his knife at Dai Wenqian, driving him back and yelled, "Dai Wenqian, you think I’m giving you face, huh!"

Dai Wenqian scoffed and threw a glass bottle, seizing the moment Brother Tie dodged to cut in front of him. A knee to the chest and he wrested the knife away, pinning it against Brother Tie’s neck, "No brains, and you’re not my match—what use is there for you to live, you piece of trash?"

Enraged and humiliated, Brother Tie retorted, "Dai Wenqian, don’t forget, we’re part of the same Player Organization. Brother Qiao has forbidden infighting!"

He said this while also looking towards the elevator area, "Gu Yu, say something!"

Gu Yu and Zheng Liang didn’t react, and Zhang Biao, who had come up from behind, quickly said, "Dai Wenqian, even if you kill Brother Tie, it’s useless..."

"Click!" Dai Wenqian twisted Brother Tie’s neck.

Gu Yu and the others did not expect him to kill without a word, and their faces immediately turned solemn.

Dai Wenqian dropped the body, dusted off his hands, and spoke in a chilling tone, "I welcome anyone who wants to avenge him."

The others remained silent, and seconds later, Gu Yu and Zheng Liang went to check the other elevators, while Zhang Biao and the Bald Headed Player quietly moved to a corner.

After searching the other elevators, including Xiao Ba and Kang Hong, fewer than fifty people had survived.

Only after finding Xiao Ba did Gu Yu ask Jiang Yihua about what had happened after they disappeared from the elevator.

Jiang Yihua briefly explained, and after listening, Gu Yu said, "So that means these Man-Eating Flowers sprouted from that giant one?"

"It’s very likely that the exterior of the building is covered in roots and vines of Man-Eating Flowers," Jiang Yihua nodded. "Luckily, the windows on the thirteenth floor are sealed. Otherwise, we’d have nowhere to hide."

Indeed, the giant Man-Eating Flower didn’t just attack one floor but had enveloped the entire building.

"But the thirteenth floor is not safe either," Gu Yu frowned. "The mutated plants in the glass room are poisonous."

"For now, it’s safe," Xu Huo had retrieved his phone and quickly reviewed the recorded video. "Besides the period from ten at night until four in the morning, the thirteenth floor should be safe."

Gu Yu instinctively looked up. "What did the cell phone record?"

"The source of the poison powder." Xu Huo handed the phone to her, confirming his suspicions that the air ducts must have been clogged by the roots of the Man-Eating Flower. And now, the Xiaohua Honghong Building was occupied by the Man-Eating Flower. Other floors had been cleared of mutated animals, making the building safer than before.

But that didn’t rule out the possibility of more mutated animals since so many people had escaped into the elevator shafts. It wouldn’t be strange if there were other enclosed spaces.

So it was best to stay on the thirteenth floor.

Having seen the video of Brother Tie and several others being driven out of the thirteenth floor by the poison powder sprayed from the ventilation ducts, Dai Wenqian asked, "What’s your plan for dealing with the ventilation ducts?"

"The best course of action is to shut off the ventilation ducts," said Xu Huo. "We can ventilate through the cracks in the windows, and we don’t have to worry about mutated animals coming up from other floors for the time being."

"After ten, we’ll go down to the sixth floor first, then come back to the thirteenth floor," he said, glancing at Zhang Biao and the bald player. There were four in their faction originally. One with a square face had gone missing, Brother Tie had been killed, and now only these two were left.

"As for whether the sixth floor is safe, we can send someone down to check first."

Zhang Biao and the bald player glared with fury, but in the face of the indifferent stares from the other players and non-players, they could only bow their heads and submit.

"If nothing unexpected happens, we should be able to last until the end of the instance," Xu Huo added.

Everyone present breathed a sigh of relief. Gu Yu walked up to him and whispered, "Thank you."

Xu Huo glanced at her. "Whether you are there or not, we all have to clear the game. No need to thank me."

But Gu Yu shook her head. "It wouldn’t be too difficult for you to clear the game alone, would it?"

If there were electronic sensors on the floors, with the items he had, trying to clear the game alone wouldn’t require taking much risk.

In comparison, their group of players was a disappointment.

Gu Yu couldn’t help but waver in her beliefs. When they had established the Player Organization, every player wanted to band together for warmth and to do something for their fellow players. After all, players had a better ability to protect themselves than ordinary people.

But a single random instance made her realize that reality couldn’t be changed by beliefs alone.

"You’re right. For players like us, it’s already good enough to fend for ourselves," she said mockingly. "We don’t have the capacity to protect others. When players from other districts invaded, we could only survive by hiding in places they couldn’t find us."

Xu Huo passed her a cigarette, and then lit one for himself.

"How many people do you think one person can protect in a dangerous situation?" he asked.

Gu Yu took a drag of her cigarette and after a moment’s thought, she said, "At most, maybe one."

"What about ten people?"

Gu Yu paused, tugged up the corners of her mouth, exhaled a long breath, and then abruptly changed the topic. "Do you smoke cigars? I’ve got a box of premium cigars a friend gave me. I can give them to you later."

Xu Huo waved his hand to indicate he didn’t need them.

Gu Yu was somewhat surprised. Beside her, Zheng Liang said, "He doesn’t even like smoking. If you want to get on his good side, you’d be better off gambling with him a couple of times."

Xu Huo narrowed his eyes and looked over, "Zheng Liang, you’re going to get yourself beaten up sooner or later."
