Chapter 197: Chapter 197: Return to the Twelfth Floor

Xu Huo had already used his sword to pry open the elevator door. Gripping the lower edge of the door, he turned back and chopped down the rushing Man-Eating Flower. Then, he said to Da Zhi and the other person, "Get up!"

The Card-transformed Black Panther agilely leaped back and forth on the four walls of the elevator shaft, sometimes even using the Man-Eating Flower’s attacks to keep from falling. Hearing Xu Huo’s words, Da Zhi hurriedly cleared the Man-Eating Flowers in front of him and directed the Black Panther to the twelfth floor.

As soon as Da Zhi and Jiang Yihua got up, the Black Panther reverted back to Card form. The two of them reached out to pull Xu Huo up, and the three of them stopped at the edge of the elevator door. Xu Huo blocked the Man-Eating Flower’s attacks twice with Bull Shield, and with its target gone, the bloom of the Man-Eating Flower slowly retracted down the shaft.

Jiang Yihua looked at Xu Huo, who, however, was staring at the pipes on the wall beside the elevator door.

Jiang Yihua was worried that taking too long would attract more mutated creatures but dared not speak, desperately using her gaze to hint at him.

After a few seconds, Xu Huo withdrew his gaze and turned to look at the decay-smelling twelfth floor, taking the first step out.

"Be careful," he mouthed to the two people beside him.

Jiang Yihua and Da Zhi nodded as if facing a formidable enemy, warily looking in different directions.

After confirming there was no danger, Xu Huo walked to where he left the spider and the mobile phone. The spider, sealed with tape, was still wriggling around, lively and energetic. He checked the phone again to confirm that in the two hours after everyone descended from the twelfth floor, nothing had happened there.

"What does this mean?" Jiang Yihua asked in a lowered voice.

"There are two possible dangers in a sealed floor," Xu Huo explained. "First, there could be a poisonous gas that kills indiscriminately, and second, mutated creatures might appear from channels unknown to us."

"So the fact that the spider isn’t dead means there’s no poison gas on the twelfth floor," Jiang Yihua realized in an epiphany.

This was just a backup measure; the main thing was that Xu Huo hadn’t found any invisible door mechanisms around the windows. Unable to assess the level of technology in this copy of reality, he had no choice but to take the risk with this method.

"The traces on the twelfth floor should be made by mutated animals, right?" Da Zhi also said. "But there are no ventilation ducts here, so the mutated animals must have come in from outside the window."

"Not necessarily," Xu Huo had just finished speaking when suddenly an elevator door in front of them flew open. Before they could react, a shadow flashed out from the elevator shaft and appeared in front of them in the blink of an eye!

Xu Huo instinctively raised his shield, but was sent flying by an immense force, retreating several meters. Before he could stabilize himself, he saw a glint of cold light in mid-air – it seemed to be a long sword!

"Watch out!" Da Zhi’s shout rang out, followed by the Black Panther pouncing from the side, biting something in front of him and dragging it to the ground!

Tripped up, Xu Huo finally saw clearly that his attacker was a half-human tall Gray Mantis. Its scythe-shaped forelegs shone with a metallic luster and easily made marks on the ground, seemingly having evolved into deadly weapons!

"Bang!" One of its forelegs stabbed into the ground, flinging off the Black Panther that was on top of it, and dashed forward with two strikes, dismembering the Black Panther into three pieces!

The Black Panther returned to its Card form, but the Gray Mantis didn’t stop its attack. Shaking its body, it spread the wings on its back and leaped at Da Zhi!

Xu Huo flung his shield to knock it away and followed up with his sword, but the Gray Mantis was incredibly fast. His strike missed, and it closed in on him!

Jiang Yihua picked up the Bull Shield from the side and threw it to Xu Huo, then said, "Let’s go back to the eleventh floor!"

Xu Huo raised his sword to block the two large sickles, and after barely pushing the Gray Mantis back, he stopped the two trying to climb from the window to the eleventh floor, "Don’t go that way..."

"Bang!" The Gray Mantis kicked out!

Xu Huo was sent flying with the momentum, catching up with Jiang Yihua and the other person, and with a collision on either side, he pushed them away from the window, saying, "The only way down is the elevator!"

Jiang Yihua didn’t understand his intention, but having missed the opportunity, the Gray Mantis had already reached them. With far less strength than the other two present, she almost instinctively produced a flower and opened her mouth, "Sir, would you buy a flower?"

Dark brown fluid splashed out, and the Gray Mantis fell to the ground but was still not dead; its two sickles clutched at the ground, slowly moving toward Jiang Yihua.

Jiang Yihua gasped, picked up a chair nearby, and started smashing it down on its head, not stopping until it was completely crushed!

Only when the upper half of the Gray Mantis was unrecognizable did she stop and said uncertainly, "It won’t move again, right?"

"No, it won’t." Xu Huo glanced at her, began cutting off the two sickles, and handed one to her, "This thing works better than a prop."

Jiang Yihua accepted it with lingering fear, watching him squat down to take out a plastic bag from who knows where to pack up the Gray Mantis’s carcass. She couldn’t help but turn her head and asked, "By the way, why didn’t you let us go down from the window earlier..."

Before she could finish her sentence, a sudden bang came from within one of the elevator shafts!

"Go!" Xu Huo picked up his things and sprinted toward the elevator shaft from which they had emerged.

Da Zhi, following behind, and he worked together to pull open the elevator doors that were left slightly ajar. After Xu Huo entered, he jammed the Crimson Sword into the wall, and the three of them dropped into the elevator shaft, one pulling the other. Hearing the tremendous noise coming from the twelve floors corner, Xu Huo hurriedly closed the elevator doors!

The elevator doors greatly muffled the noise from the twelfth floor, but hearing the sounds inside made Jiang Yihua’s voice tremble slightly, "It seems we really can only follow the elevator, otherwise we’d end up feeding the mutated animals!"

"Why is there no movement from the Man-Eating Flower below?" Da Zhi was at the bottom, and compared to the twelfth floor’s Alien, he was most afraid of the Man-Eating Flower jumping up.

"It should be dead." Xu Huo had checked when he entered the elevator shaft; the Man-Eating Flower’s pot was split in half after he sliced it, and the roots inside were soft, lacking the bounce strength to reach above the tenth floor.

He lifted Jiang Yihua up a bit with one hand and said to her, "Let’s go up to the thirteenth floor."

Jiang Yihua looked at him as if he were crazy, "The twelfth floor is so dangerous, we should hurry back!"

"There are mutated animals on the twelfth floor, but the thirteenth floor is different from other floors. If there’s anywhere to hide in this building, the thirteenth floor is probably the most suitable."
