Chapter 194: Chapter 194: Killing in the Copy Does Not Break the Law

The hallway was crowded for over a hundred people, and they dared not enter the glass houses, nor could they touch the potted plants by the walls, so they had no choice but to rest around the glass houses, standing for a while and then taking turns to sit.

Lacking fresh air, Gu Yu and the others stopped to conserve energy after their fruitless search.

Seeing Xu Huo still pacing around the glass houses, Zheng Liang couldn’t help but ask, "What is he looking for?"

"Who cares what he’s looking for? If so many of us can’t find it, do you think he can?" Wei Bin wiped the sweat from his forehead, "There are so many people, and it’s so hot."

After a while, Xu Huo went into one of the glass houses alone. He found a handcart inside and moved some potted plants out.

"What are you going to do with those flowers?" Kang Hong approached, wanting to lend him a hand.

Xu Huo gestured for him to step back, "Better safe than sorry."

After finishing speaking, he crouched down in the hallway and carefully picked up two pots of plants that could spray poisonous powder, putting them on the cart.

Kang Hong couldn’t help but step back, and seeing Xu Huo continue to reach for them, said, "Are you going to take that? How will you ride the elevator later?"

Xu Huo didn’t respond until the cart was full, then he stopped.

"Could he be planning to use these plants against the mutant animals?" Elsewhere, Wei Bin exclaimed in surprise.

"He must be crazy, thinking a few flowers can handle mutant animals? As if we’ve never seen how formidable those monsters are. He wouldn’t even have time to shake out the powder before he’d probably be dead," Brother Tie said sarcastically.

Dai Wenqian cast a disdainful glance at them and nodded to a companion beside him. Subsequently, they also followed suit with handcarts to load potted plants.

Xu Huo noticed the commotion over there and after leaving the handcart with the flower-selling girls, he returned to continue lingering around the glass houses.

He wasn’t taking these things to hit mutant animals with during a fight; rather, compared to the two floors they had passed before, the thirteenth floor was very clean. Besides some human traces, there were no signs of other species having run rampant.

It was certain that the mutated flora and fauna could move about the building, but there were no traces here, perhaps due to the effect of these plants. In the current state of partial knowledge about the instance, it wouldn’t hurt to bring some along.

"These breeding scientists seem to have a particular fondness for colors," Dai Wenqian said as he walked up to Xu Huo, looking at the vibrant flowers inside the glass room: "Apart from the green plants in the corridor, all the other flowers are bright red and purple."

Xu Huo turned his head to look at him.

"I’m Dai Wenqian." Dai Wenqian held out his hand, and after waiting two seconds without a response, he withdrew it, laughing off the snub, "Don’t mind what they say. After all, that’s the typical human reaction."

Xu Huo turned his gaze away, glancing at a few withered potted plants inside the glass house, and seemed to reply a beat too slowly: "Maybe the scientists at this research base like vibrant flowers."

Dai Wenqian actually laughed, "Everything in nature follows its evolutionary rules. Some camouflage themselves to avoid predators, others display colors to attract prey. It has nothing to do with human choice; it’s the fairest of competitions."

He paused and then added, "If the number of people doesn’t change by the time we reach the tenth floor, we might consider teaming up."

Xu Huo turned to look at him again, "You don’t want the manpower that’s already available?"

Dai Wenqian adjusted his glasses, hinting at something more with his words, "Evolutionary competition might be brutal, but it’s fair."

After saying this, he walked away.

Xu Huo returned to where Kang Hong and the others were resting with an expressionless face. He had just sat down when the flower-selling girl leaned over and said, "That Dai Wenqian, his energy level is even higher than yours, and he doesn’t seem like a good guy at all. You must not fall for his tricks. Just now, his companion died right in front of him, and he didn’t even blink an eye, still had the leisure to clean his glasses. When we were fighting the spider, I clearly saw that Wu Kun was protecting him."

"Worried that I’ll cooperate with him?" Xu Huo replied indifferently.

The flower-selling girl gave an embarrassed smile, "I’m just a bit curious, why did you guys agree to cooperate when he said the number of people on the tenth floor wouldn’t change?"

"You go ask him." Xu Huo lowered his head to look at the notebook he’d brought over.

The flower-selling girl pursed her lips and turned back, somewhat disappointedly, to glance at her companions.

The burly man comforted her by patting her shoulder, "Don’t be afraid, I’ll protect you."

The flower-selling girl managed a weak smile.

Six hours passed quickly, and this time when the elevator doors opened, everyone became a bit more eager than the previous two floors.

Xu Huo pushed the cart into the elevator, allowing only three people to enter.

After they safely reached the twelfth floor, the first thing they smelled was a strong stench of decay. Someone set up a flashlight, and only then did they discover that the area illuminated by the light was littered with corpses, some of which had died not long ago and had maggots wriggling on them.

Some of the people with weaker constitutions knelt to one side and began to vomit. Xu Huo found the light switch and turned it on, only to be momentarily blinded by the intense crimson everywhere.

The whole floor looked like the scene of a massacre, with bloodstains on the floor, walls, and ceiling. The times of death of the corpses did not vary much. Only a few bodies were intact; the rest had been cut into pieces. There were about twenty or so people.

"Why are there so many dead people here?" the flower-selling girl asked, covering her mouth.

"This place was originally meant for dining and resting." Xu Huo looked around, noticing round dining tables and a room with a window on the side, and even a vending machine at the other end, though now they were all riddled with large chop marks.

Similar chop marks were also found on the floor and walls.

Over at Dai Wenqian’s group, after checking the personal belongings of the corpses, he said, "These people all entered the instance later; there are no staff members."

"They died so miserably..." The rich young lady collapsed on the ground, staring blankly, "Will we end up like them too, dead and rotting here without anyone knowing..."

"I can’t take this anymore!" Someone clutched their head and rushed to the window, pried it open, and looked down. "There’s a window here, let’s try to get out from the window. Maybe if we leave this building, we can survive!"

Several others shared the same thought, and one after another, they rushed up, took off their trousers, and tied them together.

Others began to grow restless as well. But at that moment, Dai Wenqian grabbed a dagger from his companion and walked over, dragging the person at the window back by the hair, facing him towards the inside and backing him to the window, then slit his throat in front of everyone.

As blood spurted out, even Gu Yu and the others changed their expressions, looking at him with uncertainty and suspicion.

Meanwhile, Dai Wenqian shook the blood off the blade and said indifferently, "I’m not causing you trouble. I hope you don’t look for any either."

"It was already made very clear on the fifteenth floor, the fog might contain things beyond our understanding. If anyone tries to bring the danger from outside in here, don’t blame me for being ruthless."

He looked at the few people who had stripped their clothes, "Better just sit tight. You only have one life, and killing in the instance isn’t against the law."
