Chapter 172: Chapter 172: Players with Ulterior Motives
Sun Jirou screamed in agony, covering her eyes and retreating repeatedly, "I can’t see! I can’t see!"
"Calm down, you’re almost tearing the house apart." Xu Huo threw away the spray and looked outside, the twisted forest and the floating ground gradually became peaceful again.
At this point, Tao Chengxin and Tang Yuan already felt the change outside and came up to ask, "What happened just now?"
"We might be under the protection of Granny Bai’s defense prop." Xu Huo walked on.
Tao Chengxin turned her head back with annoyance and said, "What are you messing with! Can’t you see that this place, like the Sunflower Courtyard, is a special existence? It’s rare for a replica boss to be willing to protect us, and if we destroy this place, we’d just be cannon fodder outside. If you want to die, don’t drag everyone else down."
Sun Jirou, whether she heard or not, kept moaning with her eyes covered but didn’t use any props anymore.
Hearing Xu Huo’s footsteps, she immediately said, "Xu Huo, if you kill me, you will definitely regret it. Did you encounter any powerful players before entering this replica?"
Xu Huo paused, "How did you know?"
"I’ll tell you after I’m sure I’m safe." After saying that, Sun Jirou clamped her mouth shut.
"Alright, let’s both step back." Xu Huo didn’t press her but instead took a rope out of his backpack.
Tao Chengxin threw out a fishing line to wrap around Sun Jirou first, then picked up the rope to tie her hands and feet, while Tang Yuan picked up the spray, looked at the instructions, and said to her, "Don’t worry, this spray only lasts for half an hour. You’ll be able to see again soon."
The anger was still visible on Sun Jirou’s face, but she temporarily held back her breath.
Seeing that the outside had calmed down, Xu Huo found a place to sit down again.
"We are within the range of Granny Bai’s protection, right?" Tang Yuan said, "Do you guys think this prop might be the ’Angel’s Tooth’?"
"The one that bit us just now looked more like it." Tao Chengxin replied.
Tang Yuan’s expression stiffened, but then he changed the subject, "Is this still Fairy Tale City? I don’t know if it’s a prop or a special feature, but being able to instantly move people and buildings to different places is amazing."
Xu Huo glanced at him and didn’t speak.
Tang Yuan didn’t feel embarrassed and continued to speak, "I wonder if Granny Bai and the Town Hall people will get hurt in a fight, whether they can keep their props safe..."
The other three in the house kept quiet, but Tao Chengxin stood up and said, "I’m going to step out for a bit."
After saying that, she walked out of the cabin and didn’t come back for a long time.
"Hey, you don’t think something happened to her, do you?" Sun Jirou frowned and spoke up, "Aren’t you going to check? There might be danger around this house..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Tao Chengxin pushed the door and came in, awkwardly wiping some mud off her shoes, "I went a bit far."
Xu Huo lit a cigarette and looked up at the house.
After a while, Tang Yuan also went out.
It took him some time before he came back too.
Sun Jirou was not implying anything, but she found it odd. However, she couldn’t see right now and was at a disadvantage, so she didn’t say much.
Two minutes of silence passed, then Tao Chengxin suddenly spoke up, "Don’t you guys want Granny Bai’s prop?"
The breathing of the other two people in the room paused.
"We’re on Granny Bai’s territory; maybe there are other props here," Tao Chengxin continued. "Didn’t she admit she lost a Tooth, too?"
"That Tooth must have been in the big mouth we saw earlier."
"Are you saying that a high-level player became muddled and lost a prop in their own home, unable to find it?" Sun Jirou said with biting sarcasm, "You’re really full of wild imagination."
"It’s not like there’s no chance of that, or maybe she had too many props and just put one down randomly?" Tao Chengxin seemed very serious, "Anyway, we have nothing to do, so why not look for it?"
Tang Yuan turned to Xu Huo, "This is a high-level player’s prop, aren’t you tempted?"
Xu Huo diverted his gaze, his eyes lingering on their faces, "I’m not interested. If you want to search, go ahead and do it yourselves."
Tao Chengxin and Tang Yuan exchanged glances, then silently stood up and began to search inside and outside the house with enthusiasm.
The room could actually be taken in at a glance. A simple wooden house with nothing but a table, chairs, and basic kitchen utensils, it didn’t even have a bed, and since the floor and ceiling had already been plowed through by Sun Jirou, the dilapidated space couldn’t hide anything.
The rest was just the woods outside the house.
Xu Huo didn’t think they would find any props out there.
But since they were searching, they must have had some direction in mind.
"Greed will get you nowhere," Sun Jirou suddenly said coldly.
Xu Huo was sitting opposite her. He glanced at her bloodshot eyes and handed her a bottle of Self-Healing Potion to drink.
"Don’t pretend to be kind!" Sun Jirou could distinguish the smell of a Self-Healing Potion.
Xu Huo, unappreciative, grabbed the back of her head and poured the potion down her throat, saying at the same time, "Spit it out and I’ll catch it with the bottle, or you drink it."
With tears streaming from the corners of her eyes, Sun Jirou drank the potion in humiliation.
Two minutes later, Xu Huo asked her, "Can you see now?"
Sun Jirou pursed her lips tight, but upon seeing him reaching out to pry her eyelids open, she quickly tilted her head back and said, "I can! I can!"
"Game-produced potions are still more effective than those bought and sold in the instance world," Xu Huo remarked, then untied the ropes binding her.
Sun Jirou glared at him furiously, but then saw him raise his index finger to his lips for silence.
Motioning her to follow, Xu Huo tiptoed out of the wooden house.
Sun Jirou followed him with suspicion. The two of them walked around to the back of the house, into the woods for a while, and suddenly saw two figures standing with their backs to them in front of an inconspicuous flower, only to hear Tao Chengxin say, "There are trees everywhere here, but only this spot has a flower, there must be something wrong!"
Standing by his side, Tang Yuan nodded in agreement, "There’s definitely a catch."
"Maybe we should tell them, Xu is so smart, let him try," Tao Chengxin suggested.
"We don’t even know what this is yet. It might just be an ordinary flower... of course, it could be a trap too," Tang Yuan said. "Think about it, if Granny Bai dared to let people in, we can’t be sure there aren’t dangers here."
Tao Chengxin stepped back cautiously, "Just hope it’s not poisonous; that’s the most troublesome kind."
"Wait a second." Tang Yuan took out a pair of gloves and put them on, "These gloves are poison-proof."
Of course, Tao Chengxin didn’t want to let him try alone, so both of them put on a glove each to pluck the flower.
However, before either of them could touch the plant, they each felt a kick on their shoulders. Tao Chengxin, unprepared, was kicked to the ground while Tang Yuan, who used a Defense Prop, wasn’t harmed but took a strategic step back. Upon seeing who it was, he relaxed his expression, "Oh, it’s you guys."
The one who kicked them was Xu Huo, and Sun Jirou, who had come after, was also looking coldly at them.
Their expressions were somewhat ambiguous. Xu Huo stepped forward, shifting his gaze from Tao Chengxin to Tang Yuan, "I’m a bit curious how you managed to survive the Delicious Sausage Shop."
Tang Yuan took a slight step back, "I don’t understand what you mean."
"Do you suspect he’s from the government office?" Sun Jirou immediately caught on, looking over in surprise, "But it’s not just him, there are three others who were also unaffected, right? Are they working together?"
"Just because you encountered danger doesn’t mean every player from the government office is a Cannibal Player," Tang Yuan said with a steady face.
