Chapter 165: Chapter 165: Angel’s Tooth
Tao Chengxin rolled his eyes and looked across at Tang Yuan, asking, "Did you really meet that Yang Sheng at the Delicious Sausage Shop? Was there anything off about him?"
"Anything off?" Tang Yuan was taken aback for a moment, "I didn’t notice anything."
Tao Chengxin pursed his lips, "It’s your first time meeting him, and you trust him just like that?"
"It’s not really about trust, I can protect myself," Tang Yuan scratched his head and said, "Besides, whether we trust each other or not, players need to unite to complete the task."
"Makes sense," Sun Jirou’s face was slightly cold, "Actually, passing the low-level copy isn’t difficult, but aside from the mutual distrust among players, they are always trying to sabotage each other, which is why the mortality rate is so high."
"If you have something to say, just say it direct, don’t insinuate," Tao Chengxin said displeased, "Your family is rich; you don’t understand us players who start from scratch. One careless move, and not only could we lose our wealth, but our lives as well. Not everyone can enter a copy with bodyguards like you do."
Sun Jirou felt slightly embarrassed and pursed her lips, choosing not to speak further.
The three of them waited in silence. Only Xu Huo had bought some things and called over a waiter to tell a story.
Everyone in Fairy Tale City was very keen on storytelling, and telling stories to guests was a service, so as long as tourists requested it, waiters would put down their work at hand.
The story the waiter was telling now was a fictional one about a king and his knight. The story went something like this: the king lost his sanity and forced the loyal knight to leave for a distant land, even going so far as to let enemies into the kingdom to hunt the knight down. In the end, after enduring many hardships, the knight killed his way back, drove the enemy forces out of the country, and awakened the foolish king.
"That knight is too foolish," Tao Chengxin said, "If it were me, I would just become the king."
"It’s the knight’s code. If the knight became the king, he would have betrayed his own principles," Sun Jirou disagreed.
"But didn’t it end well? The king and the knight made peace," Tang Yuan said.
"What kind of good ending is that," Xu Huo said indifferently, "Both sides suffered heavy losses; there can never be a day of making peace."
"The gentleman is right," the waiter said with a smile, "But stories need a perfect ending so as not to upset the listeners."
Xu Huo turned to look at the bustling street outside, then suddenly stood up and said, "Let’s go find the female tour guide first."
Tao Chengxin and the others didn’t understand why he had suddenly changed his mind, but it was clear that Xu Huo wouldn’t listen to them, and they were also curious about what he was up to, so they followed him willingly.
When they arrived at the courtyard they had visited that morning, Xu Huo knocked on the door. A middle-aged man came out, "Who are you looking for?"
"Why has it changed...it’s not the same person, and the sunflowers are gone too!" Tao Chengxin peered inside, the courtyard, which used to be full of sunflowers, had now turned into a lawn, and the exterior of the house had changed as well.
The group retreated from the courtyard, and Tao Chengxin said in disbelief, "We’ve been tricked!"
"Is your special ability really reliable?" Sun Jirou sneered.
Tao Chengxin was doubting himself a bit. At that point, Tang Yuan asked, "Is the person you were looking for gone?"
"I’m afraid we were deceived from the start," Sun Jirou looked towards Xu Huo, "What’s the plan now? Find another storyteller?"
"But, why would she deceive us?" Tao Chengxin couldn’t understand, "She had no need to do that."
What benefit could there be in going to such lengths to deceive them?
"I heard from Sun Jirou that they asked you guys to help find something, right?" Tang Yuan said.
"It seems to be a jade token, but I’m not sure what it’s for," Sun Jirou paused. "Maybe another storyteller knows."
"There’s no time to lose, let’s head to Delicious Sausage Shop first."
The four of them hurried to the Delicious Sausage Shop without delay.
Just as Yang Sheng was about to inform them that the old lady was unwilling to leave the shop, he saw them running over on their own and snickered, "See, you came after all."
Xu Huo didn’t say a word and entered the Delicious Sausage Shop with the others.
The layout of the sausage shop was similar to that of Building Blocks MoMo Shop—small on the outside but large on the inside, with a passage for air-drying sausages leading into the courtyard.
An old lady with white hair, sitting in a wheelchair, was piercing holes in the sausages she had filled.
Wang Qiao and Gao Baimei were indeed there as well, glancing at Xu Huo with smugness, for although they had followed him for the clue, they were the first ones to find the place.
"You’re here to listen to the story too, aren’t you?" The old lady invited them to sit down and retold the story she had spoken of before, wiping away tears when she got to the emotional parts.
Xu Huo listened calmly until she finished, then handed her the piece of paper given by the girl in the white dress. "Ma’am, do you know what this is?"
"This..." The old lady scanned the faces of the group. "Where did you get this drawing from? Have they not given up yet?"
"Granny, what exactly is this? Is it an item?" Tao Chengxin pressed.
"This is no ordinary item," the old lady shook her head. "This is an access card for the Government Hall Research Institute, given only to those who have contributed to Fairy Tale City. With this access card, you can go to any department in the institute to extract potions."
"Aren’t high-level access cards like this supposed to have unique identity markers?" Xu Huo asked. "If someone else got ahold of it, they wouldn’t be able to use it, right? So why would the Cannibal Players be looking for it?"
"The access card is tied to a unique identity, but there’s no biometric facial recognition," the old lady explained. "There are items in the game that can change one’s appearance, and checking appearance, height, or even blood type is mostly futile. That’s why the management is strict, and not many people have access cards."
"They must be after the access cards because they want to steal potions."
As she spoke, a look of hatred appeared in her eyes. "They’re planning to do something unspeakably evil with the potions!"
Sun Jirou and the others exchanged glances, and Tang Yuan asked, "Granny, we also need to find something else for our copy’s mission. Have you lost a tooth?"
The old woman gaped, revealing two toothless gums. "You kids don’t actually think the tooth the copy’s looking for is my denture, do you?"
"The tooth is an item, its full name is Angel’s Tooth; it’s a very powerful special item. It’s because of this item that Government Hall people can’t come in and the residents of Tourist City have become hostages."
"Right now, the item is in their hands. There’s no way you can get it," she shook her head. "Listen to me, leave Fairy Tale City right away."
"I think this is an opportunity," Tang Yuan said. "Since they used a special item to hide their tracks, seeking them directly would be futile. However, if we proceed with the access card, she will surely make an appearance."
"And then what?" Tao Chengxin followed up. "Are all of us supposed to risk our lives to hand her the key to Pandora’s box?"
"Of course not. We’re not going to take back the item by force," Tang Yuan looked towards the old lady. "Aren’t there players from Government Hall in Tourist City? We could ask them for help."
