Chapter 161: Chapter 161 Missing Item

Sun Jirou and Tao Chengxin both wore expressions of discomfort, the former asking, "How did you finally escape? Why did the government and the LT Biopharmaceutical Company let Fairy Tale City go?"

"It wasn’t that they wanted to let us go at all, but rather the sacrifices made by the players who escaped Fairy Tale City!" The old man said excitedly, "It was their lives that won our final refuge. Yet I hate those people from LT for not daring to break into Fairy Tale City, yet instead, they meddled with the drinking water of Fairy Tale City. Except for the children who escaped back then, for twenty whole years, not a single child has been born in Fairy Tale City!"

"They just want to use this method to grind down the players and people of Fairy Tale City. The young people now neither know nor believe the truth about what happened then; they are immersed in the false prosperity of the tourist city... Have they never thought that all those algae and conches they trade are grown from living people... How is that different from cannibalism?"

"The people of Fairy Tale City have gotten used to it," Sun Jirou said. "Especially the Alien Sightseeing Line, treating once their own kind like animals for amusement, and they never tire of it."

"I saw it too when I arrived," Tao Chengxin was incredulous, "Among those transformed into Aliens, there could be their relatives and friends, yet everyone here seems to care less."

"This is Fairy Tale City, maybe everyone prefers to live in fairy tales," Xu Huo said indifferently, then asked, "The couple commemorated in True Love Plaza, were they players too?"

"Yes..." The old man teared up again, "Back then, they fought desperately to protect the people of Fairy Tale City, only to be driven out and left to fend for themselves. Surrounded by Aliens, they had no choice but to leap into the sea and commit suicide..."

True Love Plaza’s story was known to all three of Xu Huo. It was the most widely told tale in Fairy Tale City. Everyone openly acknowledged the part about the husband being driven out of the safety zone, not deeming it wrong, but the story was beautified at the end—they portrayed the hopeless suicide as a romantic sacrifice.

"Player transformation into Aliens, especially when an Alien wave almost destroyed the city, it’s not hard to understand why players were expelled," Sun Jirou paused then added, "but such an act is somewhat ungrateful."

"Exactly, Fairy Tale City is so vast, even setting aside a place for others would have been possible. Why force people to their death," Tao Chengxin also said.

"They too were just trying to survive," the girl in the white dress said at this point. "A regular person turned Alien can kill eight people in half a minute, and players are even worse."

"Those who deserve to die are the people from LT!" The old man had an angry look, then said to the three of them, "It’s a pity I can’t kill them, but you are players, you can do it. I have props and weapons I’ve bought, as long as you are willing to help, even if it’s just one LT person you kill, all my things are yours!"

"All right," the girl in the white dress patted his chest to calm him, and within a short time, the old man closed his eyes.

"I added something to his tea to help him sleep," she said. "His health isn’t good; he can’t get too excited."

"You can also ask me if there’s something you want to know, he has told me all about these things."

"Are there still living players in Fairy Tale City now?" Xu Huo asked.

"I’m not sure about that," the girl in the white dress shook her head, "After all, I’m not a player."

Xu Huo raised his eyebrows slightly, "In these twenty years, none of Fairy Tale City’s youth have evolved into players?"

"You heard just now that all the people currently alive in Fairy Tale City have consumed water mixed with the potion, and most of those who reacted to the potion have become Aliens," the girl in the white dress looked at him, "Even in your world, not everyone can evolve, right?"

After two seconds of silence, she said softly, "Fairy Tale City doesn’t have its own players anymore. What can they do about those players who run wild and kill here?"

"When Grandpa Bai passes away, who else will remember the past hatred?"

Xu Huo squinted slightly, scrutinizing the woman across from him who was covering the old man with a blanket, then asked, "Have you lost something?"

"I’ve lost many things, as you know, the tourist city has a lot of foot traffic, and it’s not short of thieves and pickpockets," the girl in the white dress said.

"Anything like teeth?" Sun Jirou glanced at the old man beside him, "Like dentures or tooth-shaped props?"

The girl in the white dress looked at them in surprise, "The things you players are looking for are really strange."

Sun Jirou was also troubled; the three tasks given by the instance were too strange. They seemed related but did not seem to be closely connected. To be honest, if the girl in the white dress hadn’t shown up herself, they probably wouldn’t have been able to complete even the first task.

Just like the story they wanted to hear, the tooth matter also left them utterly confused.

What tooth?

Is it a person or a thing?

"We don’t even know what we’re looking for, so why don’t you pick something you think is most important," Xu Huo said.

After thinking for a while with a furrowed brow, the girl in the white dress said, "I heard Grandpa Bai mention that a player left an item here for safekeeping that went missing."

"But it wasn’t stolen; rather, there was a mishap with his memory, and he lost the item when he wore it out as an ornament," she continued.

"How can we find it?" Tao Chengxin and Sun Jirou looked at each other.

"What is the item?" Xu Huo asked.

"I don’t know exactly what it does," the girl in the white dress turned and pulled out an old, yellowed sheet of drawing paper from a drawer, "This is what Grandpa Bai sketched when he was lucid."

Xu Huo took it and saw that it was a Jade Token-like object with simple patterns on it, unrecognizable.

"Is this the tooth?" Tao Chengxin said, "Could the tooth mean something made from a tooth?"

Sun Jirou shook his head, just about to say something when Xu Huo suddenly stood up and said goodbye to the girl in the white dress, "If we find it, we will bring it back."

The girl in the white dress seemed somewhat puzzled but just waved her hand and said, "I’ve also searched for a long time; it doesn’t matter if it’s not found, as Grandpa Bai has forgotten as well."

Xu Huo nodded, without saying much, and as he stood in the courtyard, he lit a cigarette and glanced at the half-full cat food bowl in the corner of the flowerbed before leaving.

Sun Jirou and Tao Chengxin followed him, the former saying, "The game hasn’t given any prompts on the progress of the instance; are we sure these are the right people we’re looking for?"

"A man who tells the right story, a woman who tells the right story; they should be correct," Tao Chengxin said, "The things they have spoken about are in the same direction as our speculations, and they haven’t lied."

"Is your ability based on the truth of the facts or on the narrator’s own belief in the truth?" Xu Huo turned back to ask.

Tao Chengxin paused and couldn’t help frowning, "Do you doubt my ability could be wrong?"

"Do you really understand how to use your ability?" Xu Huo asked seriously.
