Chapter 158: Chapter 158 Secret Recipe Roujiamo
"Bang!" Blocking the kitchen knife with his shield, Xu Huo looked down and stepped on the head of the wooden puppet clinging to his legs. He pulled out a lighter, "Burn!"
The puppet immediately burst into flames, struggling silently. It recombined into human form and ran crookedly downstairs.
Xu Huo didn’t chase after it but used the Flying Arrow to force the person trying to escape upstairs back down.
Putting the Magic Cube in his pocket at his waist, that person reached behind their back and drew two narrow swords over a meter long, slashing them through the air. Instantly, a series of sword shadows flew out and veered off to the sides midway, heading towards both of Xu Huo’s flanks!
Xu Huo struck twice in succession, but the Crimson Sword’s Sword Qi cut through the sword shadows and hit the tables and chairs behind him!
He immediately retreated while lifting the lighter towards the player attacking him from directly in front!
"Burn!" The fire ignited a chair, and the player in question leaped onto a table to the side before rotating their sword to release two more sword shadow attacks.
With the previous ones, there were now four sword shadows—two vertical and two horizontal—looming in the air of the second-floor restaurant. They could not strike physical objects and would rebound like boomerangs upon contacting tables, chairs, or walls, with no slow down in speed.
Xu Huo noticed that the player was also avoiding the sword shadows and simply took out his lighter, setting fires relentlessly!
In the cramped space with little cover, fire held an absolute advantage. The player could not only not get close to him but was also tired from dodging the flame attacks and their own sword shadows.
Xu Huo predicted their dodging direction, and after setting another fire, he preemptively cut off their escape route with his sword, then launched an attack from a blind spot, kicking them in the lower back!
The player was sent flying in Tao Chengxin’s direction. Tao Chengxin had taken Antitoxin as soon as she regained consciousness from the illusion, easing the symptoms of blood spitting. Seeing the man entangled with Xu Huo, her eyes reddened with hatred. As her opponent came towards her, she uttered a "grunt" and released a frog the size of a human head, which bit down on the man’s face!
"Damn bastard, that’s for messing with your auntie!"
Half of the player’s face was engulfed by the frog’s mouth. After screaming in pain and prying off the frog, he had not expected that the frog would grow two rows of sharp teeth in its mouth, biting off his mouth and nose entirely!
"Ahh!" He screamed as he staggered backward and slammed the frog to the ground.
The thrown frog split into two, each leaping up to bite his arm and crotch. As he howled, Tao Chengxin cast her fishing rod, entangling the person with the line and dragging them towards her.
As the player struggled, realizing he couldn’t break free, he used the momentum to charge at Tao Chengxin. After toppling her to the ground, he bit down on her shoulder!
Xu Huo quickly stepped over, grabbed his collar from behind, but to his surprise, the man used all his strength. Even tearing the clothes didn’t loosen his grip one bit.
Seeing the red number on the opponent’s shoulder, Xu Huo raised his sword and severed his neck.
Blood sprayed all over Tao Chengxin’s face as she pushed the corpse away with her hands and feet, struggling to get up. As she was about to thank Xu Huo, the wooden puppet reappeared, its back carrying a large box filled with various knives!
"Run!" Xu Huo took the Magic Cube and smashed through the second-floor window, jumping out, while Tao Chengxin tried to grab the swords from the corpse’s hands but failed. Seeing several flashes of knife light flying towards her, she too hurriedly climbed out the window to escape.
On the silent and dimly lit streets, Xu Huo and the other person ran one after the other, fleeing while dodging the flying knives thrown by the puppet-like creature. Xu Huo had tried setting it on fire, and Tao Chengxin had attempted to entangle the puppet with his fishing line, but neither method was successful. Once the puppet caught fire or was bound, its body would automatically disassemble, discarding the unusable parts and then fashion a new body from materials close at hand.
The two men and the puppet chased each other across several streets. The puppet, originally made entirely of wood, now had half its body composed of iron rods, liquor bottles, and even knife handles.
"What on earth is that thing?" Tao Chengxin, running out of strength, shouted to Xu Huo ahead, "We need to shake it off!"
After estimating his position, Xu Huo decided they were close enough. As soon as they turned a street corner, he suddenly stopped, grabbed the following Tao Chengxin, and whispered, "Don’t make a sound," before seizing the piano wire and flying into the air.
The puppet-like creature that was following them lost its target as soon as it entered the alley. Its head spun like a gyro. The two wooden slats on its face that pointed downwards were lifting upwards, but with a piercing scream from not far off, its mouth furiously pointed downward again, and it ran towards the direction of the sound with an angry expression.
After it had gone far enough, Xu Huo and his companion descended. Tao Chengxin, clutching the wound on his shoulder, said, "That sounded a bit like Sun Jirou. Where is that?"
"Building Blocks MoMo Shop," Xu Huo replied. "Let’s go and see."
Tao Chengxin nodded and followed him.
The Building Blocks MoMo Shop wasn’t very large, but it was located amid a network of alleys, with residential buildings behind the small storefronts—narrow on the outside and wide on the inside. Behind the MoMo shop was a three-story villa.
The two men climbed in from the neighboring store, and immediately saw a large chimney in the courtyard. The chimney connected to the ground, with rolling smoke carrying a fresh scent of blood.
Xu Huo’s expression grew solemn. The girl in the white dress had led him to Bear’s Paw Restaurant and had drawn several groups of people who had questioned her afterwards to "Building Blocks MoMo Shop" and "Delicious Sausage Shop." Considering the scene, it seemed that these three shops, as well as "Long-Nosed Nut Pie," were all places of murder for food, not the target he was looking for.
The sounds of fighting and roaring from the villa grew louder. He lightly patted Tao Chengxin’s shoulder, signaling to leave. Just then, Sun Jirou’s voice came from beneath the chimney, "Save me... I’ve found a clue to the mission..."
Tao Chengxin immediately wore a skeptical expression and gestured with his hand, signaling Xu Huo not to bother with her. However, Xu Huo didn’t even glance at her and jumped straight down the chimney.
Beneath the chimney was an underground kitchen facing a large pot boiling with red soup, containing slices of meat and bones. As Xu Huo walked past it, he stepped into a pool of fresh blood. Following the direction of the blood flow, he saw a two-meter long wooden board sloped against the wall in front of him; the blood was seeping out from underneath it.
He went closer for inspection and discovered something bloodied and mangled sandwiched inside. The wooden board wasn’t a single piece; it consisted of two thin boards covered with steel spikes clamped together.
His gaze briefly swept over something hanging on the edge that resembled an eyeball, before Xu Huo noticed a bloodstained recipe lying on a nearby chair. It boldly listed "Secret Recipe Meat-stuffed Flatbread."
Frowning, he turned around and pried apart another similar spiked board, pulling Sun Jirou out from within.
Sun Jirou was lucky, as the boards hadn’t fully closed, so she was only punctured by the steel spikes instead of being fatally wounded.
She glanced at the spike-filled board beside her, tears streaming down, and with a great effort to suppress her sobbing, said, "Shen Tai is dead."
Xu Huo remained silent and led her away from the underground kitchen.
