Chapter 1414: Chapter 1415: Your Love is Close at Hand

"Sure." Xu Huo replied cheerfully, taking the nuts and seeds and following her.

"When did you get here?" he asked on the way.

"About ten days ago. There’s just so much fun stuff at the Eye of Platinum, I want to play for a few more days." A muffled voice emerged from the costume, but it was clear the person speaking was genuinely happy.

"Are you wearing the costume for fun, or because you’re out of money and working?" Xu Huo asked with interest.

"A bit of both," the costume holder said, "The Goddess of the Evil Eye is a friend; she pays me well. I just have to attract customers and be on guard for troublemakers."

"Why would there be trouble? Is it because of inaccurate predictions?" Xu Huo raised an eyebrow.

The costume sighed, "In this world, you get beaten not just for false predictions; accurate ones might make it more likely."

Xu Huo chuckled, "Do you even make enough to cover hiring a bodyguard?"

"Hahaha!" The costume burst into laughter, "Some people are not short on money."

Ahead, at the street corner, the fortune-telling booth for the Evil Eye was visible, with several couples waiting in line.

The costume pulled Xu Huo to the back of the line and added, "There’s been a strong atmosphere of romance at the Eye of Platinum lately. Everyone likes to have their love and possible partners predicted. You can try it too... but don’t ask anything too difficult; I’m afraid she won’t be able to figure it out."

Xu Huo had no objections and said, "What time do you finish work? Want to grab a meal together?"

"Anytime," the costumed person thought for a moment, "How about after you get your fortune told, we’ll go. I’m hungry anyway."

Of course, Xu Huo didn’t mind. He waited for the people ahead to finish their fortune-telling and leave happily before entering the fortune-telling house.

"Please Sit." A woman in a witch’s outfit, wearing a mask, sat on a flying carpet and gestured to a spot in front.

Xu Huo sat down as directed, and the floating device activated, making him hover steadily in mid-air.

"What would you like to have predicted, sir? Love, marriage, career, health, they’re all options," the Diviner of the Evil Eye said solemnly and seriously.

"What’s the cost?" Xu Huo asked casually.

"The worth of my prediction is determined by the client," the Diviner of the Evil Eye said, "If you find it accurate, you can pay more; if not, you can leave without paying."

"But the fortune-telling connects your luck with the medium used during the process, so the result isn’t determined by me. It’s up to you."

"Peeking into one’s destiny is like taking something, and you must give something in return to keep the balance; otherwise, it can easily affect one’s luck."

"By me telling you the prediction result, I’m part of the medium too, so you need to pay me, achieving a stable transaction, that way it won’t affect you, and I get a bit of compensation."

"So if I have the reading without paying, it’s uncertain whether I’ll be unlucky, but you definitely will be, right?" Xu Huo asked.

The Goddess of the Evil Eye paused for a second and said, "That’s the case."

"Have you ever given yourself a reading?" Xu Huo asked again, "Who gets the fee?"

The Goddess of the Evil Eye lifted her eyelids and glanced at him, "Healers don’t heal themselves, fortune-tellers generally won’t read their own fortunes."

"So, you don’t actually know if other’s fortunes affect you or how much they do. How do you assess your loss to charge a fee?" Xu Huo looked at the sign that said "Starting at 100 White Notes," holding a sense of doubt.

The Goddess of the Evil Eye pointed to the sign’s text, "Did you not see the grand promotion event?"

Sensing the other party’s impatience, Xu Huo laughed and said, "Then I’ll have a reading about love."

The Goddess of the Evil Eye gave him a cold glance, "No need for a reading. I can tell you basically have no luck in love."

Xu Huo smiled, "Is that so? No need for the medium then?"

The Goddess of the Evil Eye, not exactly in good spirits, laid a set of specially-made tarot cards in front of him, "Pick one, any one."

Xu Huo drew a card from the middle; flipping it over revealed a set of scales.

The Goddess of the Evil Eye glanced at him with a bit of surprise, "Your love is about to come, and according to the cards, it should happen at the Eye of Platinum."

"This is the balance of all things. Whatever you’re thinking, drawing this card means you’ve already formed a connection with what you’re predicting."

"One side of the scales represents you, and the other represents your query."

"The greater the discrepancy in height between the two sides, the longer the path to what you desire, unlikely to happen soon."

"If the scales are balanced, it means your prediction will soon come true... Look at your scales; they’re fairly even, indicating your love is near."

Xu Huo listened but didn’t react at all. The Goddess of the Evil Eye took a slight breath and continued, "The card shows you fancy strong women, at least ones who can match you in strength."

"But you should also be cautious, such a woman might bring you not only the joys of love but also life-threatening dangers."

"Love is precious, but staying alive is more important."

This last bit was said with quite a bit of schadenfreude as if she already foresaw Xu Huo’s bad luck.

Xu Huo made no comment, paid 100 White Notes, and left.

The costume returned with two more customers and waved to Xu Huo, "I’m going to say hi to the Goddess of the Evil Eye."

Yan Jiayu entered the fortune-telling house, took off her headpiece, and curiously asked, "Will his love life really endanger him?"

The Goddess of the Evil Eye rolled her eyes ungraciously, "Do you know him? Don’t worry, he won’t die soon. Otherwise, with that mouth, someone would’ve beaten him to death."

"Was what you said real or fake?" Yan Jiayu scratched her messy short hair and was seriously doubting whether she could truly predict.

The Goddess of the Evil Eye felt insulted, "Does that need predicting? Anyone could see it. Do you think any ordinary woman could carry on a relationship with him? He has no basic respect for a fortune-teller... If it were me, I’d dump him in three days or beat him to vent anger!"

"And he only gave me 100 White Notes!"

"He wasn’t wrong. I’m curious too; don’t you spend the fortune-telling fees on food and drinks? Can food and drinks restore your luck?" Yan Jiayu chuckled, then reached out a hand to her.

The Goddess of the Evil Eye pursed her lips, begrudgingly giving her a small stack of White Notes, "The fortune-telling fees I earn aren’t even enough to pay your salary."

Yan Jiayu pocketed the money, "I’ll bring back something good to eat for you."

"Today’s stall opened without success; I should pack up early..." The Goddess of the Evil Eye muttered and said to her, "Don’t forget there’s something tonight."

"Got it!" The last sound had barely faded, and Yan Jiayu had already slipped out of the fortune-telling house.
