Chapter 1336: Chapter 1337 Under the Falling Flowers

As Xu Huo said, the current mutant plants can still be managed, but their overwhelming number and superior flexibility compared to previously encountered mutant plants on Heaven’s Ladder remain troubling. They mainly block the roads, and with the abundance of trees here tangling together, it’s almost as if they’ve turned this place into a cavern. The vehicle, each passing through an area, never knows if it can continue ahead, akin to speeding down a dangerous road with unclear turns and possible roadblocks, with a risk of overturning at any moment.

Cao Qinglin and Dai Song took advantage of the opportunity to throw potions among the woods. While mutant plants aren’t as sensitive as mutant animals, there are herbicide potions targeted at them. A single bottle could somewhat yield results.

When the flying effect disappeared, the vehicle happened to burst out of the tunnel formed by these vine plants, greeted immediately by an endless sea of flowers.

The dense fragrance of flowers infiltrated everywhere, and Dai Song reminded everyone to put on gas masks.

"Mutant plants are somewhat toxic, though this sea of flowers is quite beautiful," remarked Cao Qinglin. "The falling petals and flowers are not prone to wilting."

Indeed, as the vehicle sped by, it would stir up fallen flowers on the ground, nearly burying half a tire. But those lifted, including the petals underneath, appeared freshly fallen... Like the others, Cao Qinglin believed these flower trees had evolved a long-lasting freshness post-transformation. However, the quickly cascading petals soon resembled a snowstorm, making them realize these weren’t accumulated over time, but rather that the petals fell rapidly!

Before the vehicle was completely buried, Dai Song placed a small prop on the roof, whereby a generated wind blew away the fallen petals ahead, barely clearing a path. Yet farther ahead, the petals had already piled higher than the vehicle.

"Is there an issue with your map?" Qiu Ming hastily remarked. "A slight misstep could get the vehicle trapped, is there no cleaner route?"

"This is the safest route, a path previously traveled," Dai Song said gravely. "The Twin Cities both extended towards Heaven’s Ladder, but the middle segment remains untraversed."

"So not only is it difficult, but there are roads where no one knows the dangers?" Qiu Ming cursed, "In other places, you can’t see a single blade of grass, yet this area sprouts so many mutant plants. Doesn’t the district government find it peculiar?"

Dai Song didn’t respond.

Xu Huo used a spatial barrier to push the piled petals to the roadside and then said, "Watch up ahead."

Seconds later, a mutant beast, using the petals as cover, leaped out from the side and collided forcefully with the vehicle.

This mutant beast, nearly unrecognizable from its original form, had an exceptionally large head evolved with hard armor resembling a turtle shell. It crashed into the passenger door, creating a dent and shaking the entire vehicle.

"The smell of blood will attract more mutant beasts!" Dai Song quickly shouted before Xu Huo could act.

Xu Huo tossed a bottle of potion at the mutant beast’s head, the Rank-B potion was remarkably effective, making it dizzy in seconds, unable to pursue the vehicle.

Subsequent mutant beasts emerging from the pile of fallen flowers, those larger ones, were dealt with in this manner, using one or two bottles as needed. If they were too fast, Xu Huo simply blocked them with a spatial barrier—except for the occasional mutant beast with evolved senses; otherwise, the method was effective.

"This is much faster than direct confrontation," Cao Qinglin wiped her face, feeling relieved yet concerned about Xu Huo’s potion supply running low, considering buying some herself.

Rank-B potions are somewhat expensive, but they aren’t prohibitive, allowing easy use without distress.

The petal storm continued relentlessly, showing no sign of stopping. Xu Huo, noticing the grove on the map indicating a half-hour drive, asked Dai Song, "Is there a relatively flat shortcut?"

The touring route was quite winding.

"Heaven’s Ladder from this side is uphill all the way, other areas may be possible, but this area is full of flower trees, making it difficult for vehicles," Dai Song replied, "Following the route map is safest..."

Before he finished speaking, a large section of the nearby flower wall suddenly quivered massively, right in front of the vehicle, as if an expanse of wall was moving closer to crash straight into the moving vehicle...

"Bang!" It collided solidly with the hard object. If not for Qiu Ming’s quick reaction, the vehicle might have flipped, and as it stabilized, another similar disturbance arose, a massive "flower wall" advancing towards them!

"What is this thing!" Qiu Ming shouted.

Dai Song, unaware, leaned out the window, muttering "Reveal the truth" towards the flower wall, upon which the clinging petals scattered in all directions. However, only petals were visible, still unclear what lay beneath.

"It’s just a flower wall, ignore it," Xu Huo signaled for Qiu Ming to drive while tossing out a "fast-damage ice ball."

Wherever the "fast-damage ice ball" hit, a square meter of ice formed. Xu Huo slightly controlled its area of effect, letting it bounce between the two flower walls, freezing much of their surfaces, then leapt onto the car, wielding the "Cake Cutter" to swiftly slash multiple times.

Where the prop froze, it splintered with the flower petals, revealing something akin to tree roots hidden inside. While those roots weren’t capable of flexible movement, the secreted fluid solidified nearby petals, gradually merging them.

However, once the roots were cut, a large amount of red liquid oozed from the cut ends, with a blood-like texture that made Xu Huo frown slightly. As expected, the next second rustling sounds spread from various parts of the flower grove, seeming to spawn dozens or even hundreds of mutant beasts.

"Go quickly!" Dai Song’s expression changed drastically, shouting loudly at Qiu Ming.

Qiu Ming pressed the accelerator to the limit with a grim face under the aid of props and shouted, "Brother Xu, clear the way for me!"

Xu Huo’s spatial barrier could separate harmless petals but wasn’t enough to fend off so many mutant beasts. His control range was merely a few hundred meters, not enough for such extensive defense. So he stood on the car, clearing the road for the vehicle and using spatial rays within that range to craft spatial blades, beginning to slaughter the mutant beasts.

From the depths of the flower pile, occasional wails emerged. Dai Song understood what he was doing, climbing onto the roof as well, "Since we’ve started, we might as well lure all the surrounding mutant beasts here; the petals and ample bodies can stall them for a while!"
