Chapter 1333: Chapter 1334: Target Person
Without minding those few people, Xu Huo stopped at the street corner.
Qiu Ming glanced at him suspiciously and then switched seats with Cao Qinglin after she drove up.
Xu Huo stood outside for a while before getting into the car, "No rush, I’ll direct you."
Not understanding what he wanted to do, Qiu Ming started the car. "Is there a problem?"
"What that person said just now was a lie," Xu Huo said calmly. "They have brought players to protect Dr. Duor, but they didn’t send him away. The information given was just to mislead us."
Qiu Ming was slightly surprised, "He’s just an ordinary person, yet he could deceive the lie detector prop?"
"Deceiving a lie detector prop is simple," Xu Huo gestured for him to turn left, "just believe what you’re saying is true, plus that staff member probably used a potion or prop beforehand, so the final result was true."
"I really don’t understand. If they don’t trust task players, why create such an instance? Are they planning to wait until everyone leaves before sending the person away?" Qiu Ming said.
"It’s not impossible," Cao Qinglin already knew the situation. "Now so many players are searching for Dr. Duor. Not to mention the potential mix of others with different intentions, even without them, the risk of players fighting for him is high, it’s better to lie low."
"Unless the players coming to get Dr. Duor can join forces, otherwise, they might die before they even reach Heaven’s Ladder."
"So are we tracking that old man now?" Qiu Ming said, "Will he go to Dr. Duor? Normally, using a communicator is better than directly visiting."
"Isn’t that where we’re heading?" Xu Huo gestured for him to change direction.
About ten minutes later, the staff member took several turns and finally entered an old shopping mall. In a closed basement in that mall, several players surrounded a brown-haired middle-aged man playing cards. The white-haired elder rushed in and said urgently, "You must quickly change places, you can’t stay here any longer!"
The players heard this and put down their cards, the man with slicked-back hair said, "No one followed you."
"I know, otherwise, I wouldn’t have come here," the white-haired elder said. "Several groups have found the laboratory, could be discovered anytime... I told you long ago, you refused when I asked you to not hide so close, now there are task players everywhere in the city, who will ensure Dr. Duor’s safety?"
"Aren’t we protecting him now?" the man with slicked-back hair said. "If you’re not satisfied with us brothers, you can find someone else."
"Or, you might as well send the doctor to the Secondary City."
This last statement was clearly filled with malicious sarcasm, the white-haired elder was furious, "Since you agreed to protect the doctor, why not send him to the Secondary City? The laboratory has offered enough, and you don’t even have to go through Heaven’s Ladder, you can take a detour!"
The slicked-back man tossed his cards, his gaze followed them back and forth, "No price is worth more than our lives. Do you think only Heaven’s Ladder is dangerous? Many people hijack halfway, detours aren’t safe either. We’re agreeing to protect the doctor for a time because of his significant contributions to Twin Cities."
He then said, "It’s better for you to find a way to hand the doctor over to task players; the situation in the Secondary City is dire, and the sooner the doctor goes the sooner he can save people. Don’t underestimate those task players, they’re not so easily deceived."
"Twist things several times, it’s not hard to deceive them. No one suspects me, those people’s brains aren’t in good shape, how can I entrust the doctor to them?" The white-haired elder grabbed his hair anxiously.
"Has the emergency injection been delivered to the Secondary City?" At this moment, Dr. Duor finally spoke.
The white-haired elder, treating him with great respect, replied, "It’s been delivered, but the disease in the Secondary City has mutated, and the original potion isn’t very effective."
Dr. Duor sighed slightly, "We can’t delay any longer, the next group of players who find the laboratory, bring them directly."
The white-haired elder disagreed, "Doctor, it’s not worth the risk; if anything happens to you, who will save the Twin Cities?"
Dr. Duor fell silent, then said, "Unfortunately, I’m just an ordinary person."
The white-haired elder lamented similarly, "If I were a player, I’d risk everything to send the doctor out!"
The other players in the room remained silent.
"Knock, knock, knock!" At this moment, there was a knock on the door from outside.
The players instinctively moved to protect Dr. Duor, coming to the door. Even though they hadn’t noticed anyone approaching, and now with someone knocking, they didn’t know who was outside, or how many — at this moment, they felt isolated in this small basement, clueless about the outside world!
Realizing the incoming person was tricky, the two players at the door retreated to Dr. Duor’s side and signaled the white-haired elder to speak.
"Who?" The white-haired elder was very tense.
"I’m here to pick up Dr. Duor," Xu Huo said outside the door. "The task time is only fifteen days, starting earlier benefits us all."
The white-haired elder and the players remained cautious, but Dr. Duor was quite pleased, immediately saying, "Come in!"
The door to the basement, locked from inside, opened on its own. Xu Huo stood at the entrance, not trying to enter.
"You’re alone?" Dr. Duor looked somewhat disappointed.
"I have two companions outside," Xu Huo said, "with the doctor, it’s not hard to find more friends."
"Can you and your friends really protect the doctor?" the white-haired elder asked. "For you, if the doctor dies, it’s just a failure in the task, but for Twin Cities, he holds everyone’s fate."
"Do you have any other options?" Xu Huo scanned them, "The city’s players don’t want to send him, you don’t trust outsiders, are you going to wait until the instance disappears? If Dr. Duor doesn’t reach the Secondary City or dies, this instance can’t end, what will you do then?"
The white-haired elder was stumped, but Dr. Duor stepped forward, "Since you found here, it proves your capability, I’ll go with you."
"Doctor..." The white-haired elder tried to speak, but Dr. Duor smiled and said, "Every day I stay, more will die."
He then thanked the players and moved towards the door.
"Wait." The slicked-back player suddenly came forward, "I’ll accompany the doctor."
He looked at Xu Huo, "Since your task is to escort the doctor to the Secondary City, having a bodyguard shouldn’t be a problem."
