Chapter 1314: Chapter 1315: Return to Card City
A minor quarrel doesn’t need to be taken to heart. Xu Huo ignored the malice of the other party and began to examine the player relics of Han Yi and Old Zheng.
Han Yi was equipped with many props, which was evident during their previous encounter. However, his props leaned towards trap and defense types, such as "Fluttering Snowflakes." When used, it’s only necessary to place the prop in the surroundings, and it automatically attacks any player who enters its range. It hadn’t been used on the spot, but from the description, this prop releases a strong wind—not just any strong wind, but a kind of wind bundle akin to a meat grinder, capable of tearing a living person to pieces in two or three seconds, truly living up to its name.
Additionally, there are restraint-type props that can block small areas to trap players. Defense-type props vary in range; generally, those with a larger range are not as robust as those with a smaller range. However, the duration of their effectiveness is long, and among them, there’s one that can rebound attacks, named "Goalkeeper." Though its defense range is only ten meters, it can last for ten minutes. During these ten minutes, any force acting on it will be rebounded. The only drawback is that it cannot move with the bearer.
Of course, this type of spatial artifact isn’t foolproof and can still be broken by similar props or stronger attack-type props; the difference in strength only shows in real combat.
The rest were some advanced items that didn’t seem impressive individually, with many having overlapping effects.
But as a substitute, Han Yi carried enough props on him. Besides these, he also had two intelligent mechanical beings, one for combat and the other for household chores. The household-type mechanical being could cook and clean, but it couldn’t communicate with people, although it could understand detailed instructions.
The other, a combat-type, was much more straightforward: lock-on target, equipped with thirteen kinds of weapons, including four mini-tracking missiles.
Besides these, there was money and all sorts of potions, and his luggage held a large amount of precious metals, ores, survival kits, and even a portable lavatory—his luggage compartment was rather large and overly stocked. Xu Huo directly sold off some cumbersome items and only kept one survival kit.
What surprised him a bit was that Han Yi did not carry the transparent ore, a specialty of Flower City, the one said to be able to produce premonition tools. Besides, the premonition tools he had were only two, both Rank-B. Judging from their effects alone, they weren’t as practical as "Thousand-Mile Fate Thread," because unlike Jiang Jiang, they couldn’t precisely forecast established facts. Instead, they would display a vague and disjointed image—maybe something seen before or perhaps common objects, without clear direction.
Xu Huo decided to test one, and its cloud-like appearance was very soft. A gentle squeeze caused a cloudless blue sky to flash before his eyes—it was as if a movie frame had flashed by; if one wasn’t careful, they’d miss even seeing what’s in the picture. Of course, the scene that appeared was straightforward, like a blue backdrop, probably forecasting the weather.
If he stayed at the station all day, it probably wouldn’t rain.
Losing interest in the premonition tools, he turned to check on Old Zheng’s props.
Old Zheng’s prop setup was superior to Han Yi’s, possibly due to his super evolution. One third of his props were related to interrogation techniques, along with two mental support tools. His luggage compartment contained many super-evolution-related books and numerous manuscripts, which he placed carefully in a box, along with his notes.
Xu Huo casually picked some to browse, and unexpectedly they detailed hypnosis and how to handle psychic disturbance instruments—these were unexpectedly good find.
Old Zheng’s private assets weren’t as much as Han Yi’s, though the number of potions multiplied. Besides some highly effective hallucinogens, there was also a considerable amount of poisons; he seemed to have an interest in pharmacology.
The train soon arrived, and Xu Huo, along with some people from the station, boarded the same carriage.
Those two players who knew each other were displeased with him and snorted as they passed by, choosing a room ahead, while the female player nodded to him in a friendly manner.
There were three other people in the carriage, and Xu Huo chose a position by the side and sat down. After using a privacy-protection prop, he began reading Old Zheng’s preserved manuscripts.
The train sped along the tracks, and the players went about their own business peacefully; the atmosphere was rather pleasant.
About an hour later, two more players entered the carriage.
These two scanned everyone in the carriage and then sat opposite Xu Huo, their four eyes staring fixedly at him.
Not grasping the intent behind their gaze, Xu Huo looked up, "Hello there."
The fair-skinned man among them glanced at his companion with disappointment, but his companion gave him an encouraging pat on the shoulder before quickly redirecting his gaze to the player at the next table.
The player at the next table was male but had a feminine appearance, soft demeanor, looking more approachable than the others in the carriage.
Just as the two were about to stand up and approach him, Xu Huo interjected, "Did you just come from Card City?"
The fair-skinned man had the unique poker card ornament of Card City pinned on his sleeve, indicating how much he favored it. When Xu Huo brought it up, he settled back down and said enthusiastically, "You’ve been to Card City too? It’s bustling there and really safe. If it weren’t for having to do an instance, I’d definitely stay for a month!"
"I’m planning to go nearby," Xu Huo put down the manuscript, "I’ve heard a lot about it, it’s quite famous."
"You’re going for an instance near Card City, huh," the fair-skinned man replied, "but you better be careful once you’re there. Several major cities in District 001 have been attacked over the past few days. Many places were under lockdown when we left. Advanced players in District 001 are no joke; if you’re unlucky and become a target, you might not even make it to the instance!"
"That serious?" Xu Huo raised an eyebrow.
"Indeed, even Card City was affected, and they canceled the original celebration." The fair-skinned man thought for a while before adding, "Apparently an important figure in a city was assassinated, and government players are arresting people everywhere."
From how things sounded, it seemed impossible that it was the fake Han Yi. Normally, the real Han Yi or another fake Han Yi would show up to display the Han Family’s power, bringing things to a perfect close.
"I heard the Feld Family has someone in District 001," Xu Huo mentioned.
"If it’s Kairo Field, District 001 might explode, but think about it, that’s someone of high status, how could they be easily killed?" The fair-skinned man chuckled, "It’s probably a local noble. When someone dies, they’ve got to show they’re doing something, but everyone knows the culprit won’t be caught."
"By the way, which instance are you going to..." He was about to continue, but his companion lightly coughed to interrupt him, "Say less."
