Chapter 116 Lin Pei is Dead

Chapter 116: Chapter 116 Lin Pei is Dead

Xu Huo held a camping lantern in his hand, which he had found inside the mayor’s office building. The wattage was too high, so he propped it up in front with the stick of a mop.

The light could radiate out for more than ten meters, therefore, he first saw Gu Yu and a few others, as well as two Aliens that retreated as soon as they were exposed to the light.

Even in the darkness, his vision was not affected, allowing him to clearly see the appearance of the two Aliens. They were different from the ones before; their limbs were stronger and looked longer, with a layer of thin film growing between their fingers and toes. They spread the film when moving, secreting mucus that allowed them to walk on vertical surfaces.

Looking at the glowing eyes in the dark, he directed the lantern towards them. The startled Aliens immediately fled towards the door.

"So they’re afraid of light," Xu Huo propped the lantern above his head and glanced over at the people huddled in the beam of the flashlight like they were facing a great enemy. He lifted his chin, "Looks lively. Need a hand?"

"Xu Huo! You’re still alive!" The four people with Gu Yu almost cried with joy upon seeing him clearly.

"You actually cured the poison!" The shock had not yet faded from Lin Pei’s face. Everyone had witnessed Xu Huo’s condition at the east gate; a mere scratch on his jaw had caused the toxin to spread rapidly to half his head, driving him almost to madness. Yet now, not only had he cured the poison, but he also looked different from before.

Xu Huo kicked away two Aliens that pounced towards him, advancing forward with composed steps, "Luck was on my side. I actually found an antitoxin in town."

"It’s not just the antitoxin, right?" Lin Pei, seeing the two Aliens that had slammed into the metal plate twitch only once before they stopped breathing, couldn’t help but catch his breath, and then said, "Seems like you’ve had some other fortuitous encounters."

Xu Huo looked at the Sword in his hand, "Time to return my item."

"If you’re capable, come and take it!" Lin Pei lashed out with a slingshot, and closely following it, he stepped on the metal plate and came slashing down at an angle.

"Be careful, Xu Huo! His evolution rate has reached 26%! Don’t let the bungee cord tie you up!" Gu Yu shouted anxiously, fearing that Xu Huo, who was without a combat prop, would not be able to contend with Lin Pei, and without hesitation, she drew her sword and rushed to his aid.

A 26% evolution rate wasn’t diluted; Gu Yu and the others had evolution rates in the teens, but even combined, they couldn’t defeat Lin Pei, let alone Xu Huo with only a 10% evolution rate!

If fighting alone wouldn’t work, they could join forces!

"We’ll help too!" Shen Xin gritted her teeth and stood up, instructing Ke Liang and Wang Chaoqing to throw her out, "I can hit him once more!"

This was the best opportunity, especially since Lin Pei was already injured. If he were to receive another serious blow, Xu Huo would have the chance to kill him!

And Lin Pei had a similar idea; he wanted to eliminate Xu Huo before he could get into a combat state!

Gu Yu and the others prepared to support from near and far, but Lin Pei feigned an attack at the front; actually, he was preparing to repeat his old trick and use a Flying Arrow for a sneaky assault. Both sides considered this first exchange to be crucial to their victory or defeat, yet Xu Huo, standing at the center of this vortex, appeared exceptionally composed.

With his current sensory abilities, he could clearly foresee that even if Gu Yu and the others went all out, they wouldn’t be able to match Lin Pei’s speed. A difference of ten points in evolution rate became particularly significant in the microscopic world; everyone else was still several meters away, while Lin Pei’s Flying Arrow was already less than a meter from him.

"You think I’d fall for the same trick twice?" Xu Huo shifted his body and extended his left hand to catch the arrow that whooshed past his ear, while simultaneously grabbing the bungee cord and yanking it back!

Already rushing towards him, Lin Pei was caught off guard by this, and though he tried to retreat, it was too late. He was forcefully yanked down, colliding face-first with Xu Huo’s incoming knee. Tossed into the air, he received a kick to the chest and slammed into a metal plate several meters away!

With a "bang," Lin Pei spat out blood and knelt on the ground, catching a glimpse of the Alien next to him, whose chest had been kicked in. His pupils shook uncontrollably, realizing that if not for his quick reflexes to block the impact with his hands, he would have ended up not much better than the dead Alien!

And now his left arm was broken, his right arm trembled so much that he could barely grip his Sword, and the only advantage he had, the Flying Arrow, had fallen into Xu Huo’s hands... Glancing towards the gate, he fiercely hurled his long sword at Gu Yu, who was close by, discarded his slingshot, and turned to flee!

"He’s trying to escape!" Gu Yu dodged the Sword and gave chase.

"Won’t get far." Xu Huo caught the Sword, turned, and tossed the camping lantern behind him, plunging the entrance back into darkness. The two Aliens lurking in the corner lunged at Lin Pei!

"Ah!" Lin Pei kicked one away but couldn’t fend off the other and was pinned to the ground, its teeth tearing off his ear!

Struggling to his feet, he tried to tear the Alien from his body, inching toward the light. But Wang Chaoqing picked up the flashlight and ran toward Xu Huo. The others stood behind the camping lantern, watching coldly as Lin Pei was being torn apart.

Realizing these people wouldn’t save him, Lin Pei turned back toward the entrance. Though the two Aliens were fully attached to him, tearing and chewing at his flesh, he still had hope. If only he could reach the exit, he would be free from this instance!

Xu Huo took a few steps forward, the Ruby on the hilt of the Sword glowing a bright red, and a Sword Qi severed Lin Pei’s body from afar.

The figure in the shadows split in two and fell, the two Aliens fighting to drag the halves away.

Upon receiving the game notification, Xu Huo confirmed Lin Pei was dead before saying, "The instance is over."

"What about those two Aliens?" Gu Yu pointed to the corner.

"They’re afraid of light; no need to waste energy on them." Xu Huo instructed Wang Chaoqing to raise the lamp. Once lit, the two Aliens eating hurriedly burrowed back into the holes in the metal plates.

"Are you all right?"

Looking at her arm covered in scratch marks, Gu Yu said, "We’ve all been bitten and scratched by the Aliens. We need to find some Antitoxin when we get back."

She unbuckled her belt and handed it back to him, "You go ahead, in case the doors close later. There’s no longer any danger in the town, and the few of us can manage."

"Are you sure you’ll be okay?" Xu Huo walked back. He had already noticed the injuries on their bodies — albeit slightly blackened — but they were not as severe as his own had been and showed no immediate signs of Alien transformation. Like Professor Han who was wounded on the initial trial train, they would likely develop abscesses and weakness.

Additionally, they each had various degrees of injury, all in a semi-crippled state, whereas Wang Chaoqing was almost unscathed.

"We have no choice," Gu Yu sighed with a wry smile, "Bad luck, really. Just when it seemed we survived, it turns out we’re just waiting to die outside."

"What’s the use of surviving anyway?" Shen Xin stared at the hole above, speaking calmly, "The next instance, or the one after that, we’ll die sooner or later."

Gu Yu hugged her, "It’s important to stay alive."

Shen Xin shook her head, "If it weren’t for me holding him back, my brother might not have died. He’s the one who deserved to live."

Because she was injured, Shen Yi couldn’t climb onto the suspension bridge in time and was killed by Lin Pei without any defense... They couldn’t even bring his body out...

Aside from Wang Chaoqing, everyone appeared somewhat despondent. Xu Huo took out an injection from the suitcase and said to Shen Xin, "Since you have no will to survive, why don’t you try this Antitoxin and see if it works."
